You're probably not going to have much luck from the road but you dont necessarily need to be way out in the boonies either. Find an area that looks like good deer country to you (which is pretty much the whole unit) and start glassing !!! It wouldn't hurt to make a couple trips up here either to get a feel for the country....

Pictured is my oldest son Garrett (who graduated High School in May) and I during our deer hunt last year . After enduring severe back pain the last couple weeks of baseball season, an MRI was performed and a tumor was found in the middle of his back. The tumor was removed the 10th of June and found to be malignant . Garrett was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma the 28th of June, a pediatric form of cancer typically found in children between the ages of 10-20. He has recently begun chemotherapy and additional surgery may be in the future to remove the vertebre affected by the cancer. Through it all Garrett has maintained a positive attitude and is counting the days till our 27 October Whitetail hunt (like a true hunter) . Ultimately the final outcome is in the hands of our Lord and Savior but your prayers for my son would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you , Tray Webb (FlyingW)

Trophy Hunter, Eastman's and Christensen's Hunting Illustrated usually cover my nightstand .Three must read books (IMO) are Life at Full Draw by Chuck Adams, Hunting the Hard Way by Howard Hill and Fred Bear's Field Notes....

Base camp doesn't have to be way out in the boonies. I dont believe further is always better. A lot of the places I hunt are no more than a couple miles from the truck and hold plenty of quality deer. But the country very nasty and most people aren't willing to walk it. There's no sense in loading yourself down and walking to the next county if you dont have to .IMO . Learn the country you hunt like the back of your hand and you just might be surprised at what it really holds....
