There is a site called Shotgunworld.com which has an assortment of manufacturer forums. Try there.

One thing I noticed was the DPMS did not have the forward assist like the Colt did. Is there a big difference between gas or inertia systems other that having to clean the piston?
-
People who watch that stuff choose to do so. The FCC may mandate a delay so the broadcaster can give the viewer notice that they are going to show something like that which could potentially be disturbing to little kids so parents can change the station or move the kids from the room. Imagine if he was family and his kids were at your home and saw that happen.

Heard about it today and changed the station before they ran the footage. Seen enough of that stuff first hand and don't need the thrill.

Who needs to call them when they walk out in front of you and stand there? LOL

If so I could use some pointers, habits, shot size etc. My son and I have never hunted them before and have a couple of tags and could use some help. We don't have a bird dog and if I can get my radiator swapped out I am going to try and head down friday after work. If not it will probably be early saturday but just for the weekend as we are both pretty busy at work. -
Man I thought I was the only one using that. Thanks m77, now EVERYONE is going to want one, this is supposed to be Secret Squirrel Stuff and you blew the code of silence. Time for you to turn in your DECODER RING!

Baiting is discussed about 1/4 of the way down the page. http://www.azgfd.gov/faq/LawsRegulations.shtml

Knowing the Point Blank Range Ballistics (on flat ground) for your particular round can save you some time estimating the distance when in the field which helps when a shot presents itself and seconds count which is the reason to sight in 3" high. There is lots to be found regarding PBR on the net but you can start here. http://www.chuckhawks.com/rifle_trajectory_table.htm

Looks like he is in Vail.

How much are you asking for them? Have they had any shots yet? What about dewclaws? Are the parents hunters?

I thought that was covered by the "72 hour rule". -

I have hung them when there are trees around but it can be a challenge when you're alone. I usually will cut from the sternum to the rectum going just through the hide and not puncture the cavity (keeps flies and bees to a minimum) and grab a handful of hide with my free hand and using a knife up against the hide make a couple of short cuts to begin freeing the hide from the flesh gradually making longer cuts as I simultaneously pull on the hide. I do this for one side (when the deer is on the ground and can't be hung) untill I get the hide off one side up to the top of center of the spine. At this point I slice the backstrap off while pulling on it and working the knife along the bone. If you are doing this for the first time and will be alone go get one of those metal butcher gloves in case you slip so you don't cut yourself. Then I make a cut on the inside of the rear leg going to the bone from the knee to the hip socket and pull the meat away from the bone as I work the knife lengthwise along the bone and remove the whole quarter as one piece. The front shoulder (which has less meat) is done similar to the rear but you just have a little more bone to work around. Then I slice as much meat off the calves and neck which usually get ground up for sausage. Have you looked at any You Tube videos yet? Use some heavy string or rope around the lower leg and tie it off to a tree of boulder to help keep it from flopping in the way. Don't rush it and you can be done in about an hour. Once you have a few under your belt you will be able to do it in half that time. If you must cut into the body cavity be careful not to puncture the bladder or you will get urine on the meat which need to be washed off right away so carry a couple of liter bottles of water in the pack. If you decide to gut it and then carry it out by tying the four hooves together and slinging it over a shoulder you will want to use a small saw to split the hip joint to free up the intestine for removal. To do that cut from the front to the rear along the underside of the hip to expose the bone and slice through the meat. Then take a small saw and cut along the hip bonve where the hips join. It is not very thick and will only take a minute or two to do. Once through put your hands just above each knee and push down and the rest of the joint will crack and split making it easier to remove the intestine. -
I only sit in the sun as a very last resort. Camo or not deer look for movement and a big hat just increases your profile and a wide brim is easier to spot. Camo breaks up the pattern but deer are color blind.

Glad to hear that, last I heard nothing was getting done by them. -
Cabelas/Meindl Air Revolution Hunting Boot.
PRDATR replied to CouesSlayer77's topic in Other Hunting Gear
They would never work for me as they don't come in EW. I do like the fact that they actually have a heel which is one of the things I want in a boot besides being as light as possible and having a firm sole as I expect a boot to last a minumim of five years. -

The Travel Management Maps show the roads which are open and list the others on the map which are too small to show so you will need to carry both maps. Sure you "can" take the chance but who wants to spend time going to court? The USFS is not blocking or putting sinage on closed roads leaving the burden on us to show we are not on closed roads. Do I agree with this new policy, absolutely not. Will I comply to the best of my ability, you betcha. But it is our perogative to choose our battles. -

This is for Tonto but put the National Forest you are looking for in the Search box in the upper left of the screen. http://www.fs.usda.gov/tonto If you need a BLM map go to their office and get them there for less than you would at REI or Wide World of Maps. -
I'm curious as to what you use instead of straps. I use ratchet straps and haven't had any trouble. If there is something better I definitely want to know about it. Thanks! TJ If you know a mechanical contractor that does commercial and has guys who do pipe insulation find out where to buy the large stainless clamps that look like automotive hose clamps, no bear is going to remove them.

If you have a Whitetail tag and bone it out in the field you should end up with about 40 pounds of meat, which with a decent pack you can haul it out yourself. When you setup camp stop in at other camps and introduce yourself to other hunters before the hunt. Most will be more than willing to help you out if you need it. -

Go to a Forest Service Office and you can get them there. I went to the one on 23st and McDowel in Phoenix and picked both of them up. They are free. The Coconino Map measures 33"x55" and is double sided with North on one side and south on the other. -
I would expect a muzzle velocity of around 2750-2800fps with a 19" barrel.
