Headed out to 36B in the morning....
PRDATR replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
SHould be headed down on friday afternoon and will be camped not too far from the lake with a few others. -
Headed out, probably friday afternoon to meet up with a friend to be an extra set of eyes for him and his daughter to try and get her first deer. Shouldn't be camped too far from the lake so stop in and say hey.

An alarm system for a few hundred or a $50 Club will save you a lot of grief. Hope you get it back.

My guess is you in your late teen or early twenties and something about yor vehicle or the way you presented yourself gave the officer the impression you weren't on the upnup and figured he had better than a 50/50 chance be could bust you for something. Legal smegal. Don't fret it unless you have something to hide. Don't speed and you won't get pulled over.

Don't quite know about that. You should report it because it is the right thing to do not because of what the outcome may or may not be. Especially when a young hunter is involved or how are they going to learn ethics? I went through this with a young hunter on his second deer hunt and he shot a young buck whose antlers had not broken through the hide when he thought he was shooting the spike next to it and jerked the shot. We field dressed the deer and being opening day took it into the Mesa Office. We explained the situation and they laid the deer out in the parking lot on a tarp. They took pictures to use during hunter safety to show what a buck's antlers look like just before they break the hide. They thanked us for reporting it, shook our hands and sent us down the road with the deer.

Travel management - what are YOU going to do?

I hate to see roads shutdown. I also don't like hiking into an area and have the silence disrupted by someone in a loud vehicle driving where they have no business going. It's a double edged sword but not allowing game retrival with the aid of a vehicle in non Wilderness areas isn't right. -
Great deer and antelope round. Too much for varmints and if you respect Elk it is way undergunned for them. Stick some 180 in the 30.06 and use that. A 22-250 will kill an Elk under the right conditions but you already have a 30.06 so I'd say look at a 22 caliber for varmints.

they'll be sorry when the coyotes eat the rest of the antelope! look into a wood cutting permit...... maybe able to get away with that??? congrats to you and your grandson! Sorry they have made it into a joke for you! James Won't work. You're either cutting wood or hunting and they aren't going to let that fly and I don't want to be the test case for a percieved loophole. Consequences (loss of game animal, confiscated vehicle, court costs etc) are too high. -

When I was in Clints Well last month the guy at the Service Station said another road closure map will be out in December and another in the spring. -
That is a long ways. I know that young male lions will travel indefinately until they can find a home range.

Fired? I hope you called the cops too. No telling what he had back at his house. If he is low enough to steal from people he is working with he is capable of anything.

Any idea on how big that one is? I know they can get quite a bit bigger than a Mountain Lion and they have always facinated me but I haven't seen one in the wild. They have an incredible bite force and are only out done by the Hyena which explains why they eat turtles and kill deer by sinking their teeth through the skull into the brain rather than through aphixiation. As I understand it a big male can go 350#'s and that is a lot of puddycat.

"the Commission considers bait to include any food-stuff or ingestible material that has been deposited, scattered, piled, or delivered by a passive or active feeder or feed delivery system,,,," Gray area, really? Not sure I understand your post. If this passes I believe 99% of us will comply. Should someone put out bait and I happen to shoot a deer over or near it I have no doubt that a WM will be writing a citation and it will be up to me to show I didn't know it (the smoking gun) was there and didn't put it there. Hunting over bait will be illegal, no matter how it got there. No doubt some will spin it every which way.

All the standards we have for rate of twist were achieved around lead core bullets. Newer bullets of copper and ballistic tips make the bullet longer upsetting the apple cart. Neccissating reinventing the wheel. You're groups are great so go make some memories.

I spent part of the afternoon at Rio with my son re-sighting in for our hunt next month. I usually pick a bullet, (Nosler Partition, Sierra Match King, etc) for a specific task, then work up the load. Accuracy is nice but not always the destination. That, is what I expect of the terminal performance of the bullet. Example, if I'm hunting coyot's. I want a bullet that gives me 2 MOA and dosen't exit because I know I will not be taking shots past 300 yards.

Yucca? AKA Shin Dagger?

Don't weigh primers it won't really get you anywhere. I have always used CCI Benchrest Primers in rifle cartridges. Don't use brake cleaner or solvents as they can make the brass brittle. On new cases uniform and deburr the flash holes and chamfer the inside of the case mouth. Some rifles shoot everything well while others shoot bullets with a specific profile at a certain velocity best. With a 160 gr case vs a 162 gr case the difference percentage wise is just over 1%. Not very much and unless you fill each case with water and weight it you can't be certain if that deviation is in the volume of the case ot the weight of the case itself. I'm no math wiz but if the difference is say 1.25% and it is actually in the volumn of the case then a 243 case at an average charge weight of 45 grains we are looking at a case volumn maximum deviation of less than 1/2 a grain, to the case mouth. If you weigh each charge using extruded powder there will be a bigger difference than using ball powder just because ball powder is finer and getting a more exact charge weight has a higher possibility. Some cases like the 222 and 6mmPPC are inherently accurate and squeezing each cm of accuracy from them is less of a chore. Last thing you want to do is wear out the barrel and spend hundreds of dollars chasing clover leafs or one hole groups if taking snap shots at Coyotes or Coues at 200 yards on a windy day is what the rifle will spen 95% it's time doing.

Thats decent enough to shoot PD's out to 400 yrds and sorting cases and bullets by weight "should" tighten up a group. Curious, what are you doing to prep those cases and which primers are you using? One thing you can do is take one case of each different weight from low to high and using bullets that all weigh exactly the same and hand weighing each charge shoot a group and see how it compares to another group using the same amount of cases that weigh exactly the same, then compare the results. The weight difference of two grains would not be of big concern to me as it "could" be in the base which would not effect the actual case capacity and that is what decides the consistency of pressure and ultimately, velocity. Provided that OAL, case length etc are equal and thus removed from the equation. Chronographing loads is helpful and an the information logged is useful when developing pet loads.

I have probably seen one but can somebody post a picture or link to what it looks like. I have never heard of a called that before.

His comments on abortion will cost him many of the women votes. I don't think there is one person on here who would vote Obama/Biden.

In a factory rifle and chamber you are not going to notice enough if a difference to amount to anything due to the inherent differences compared to a rifle with a match chamber and blueprinted action. If your rifle is consistently capable of being able to cover 10 shots with a dime at 100 yards then you can weigh cases and bullets and sort them but it's not really necessary in a big game hunting rifle under field conditions.

I haven't used one personally but could use a new one, provided it's not heavy as I don't need too much extra weight in my pack. Found a few of them here, http://www.nextag.com/ravelli/stores-html If you get one let us know how it does.

Also not a fan of BT's for big game.
