I picked up a Colt LE6920 today and have heard the triggers could be better. Anyone have experience with re-working the factory trigger? I haven't shot it yet so it may not really be a problem. I Googled triggers and saw a Timney for $70 and some others for 4X's that. I'd much rather keeep the original than toss out money for something designed for 1000 matches..

The 22-250 works well out to 300 yards with no problem on Coyotes, Javelina and Coues. DICKS Sporting Goods has the Remington 700 Varmit with a 4-12 scope on sale for Black Friday for $349! I don't know what calibers but 223,243 or 22-250 will all work.

what we should have known
PRDATR replied to elkaholic's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Unfortunately most are now licking their wounds and wondering WTF went wrong. Romney was never a good choice and neither was Ryan. Some may call it pandering but the voter base cannot be ignored. 2016 will be another loss if the party doesn't wake up. The Republican Party continues to holds it's breath and press on and are easily manipulated by the Dems. Their "yeah but," philosophy isn't working. Meanwhile the politicians retain their positions and the country goes down the tubes. Nobody pays any attention to a bucket of water with a slow leak until all the water is gone into the sand. Christie, Rubio and Jindal will be the ones to watch. The big question is will Hillary make another move in 2016. -
Looks like an older buck.

If you just want to kill them then I would use the cheapest thing you can find like Remington Core-Lok's. Unless you reload and slow them down any jacketed bullet in a 270 will be destructive. You can also use cast bullets but slow them down below 2000 fps. Head shots are always an option if your hide hunting.

That is a great pic TAM and reminds me of when my son was younger. I always gave him a pack to wear so he could "help out" and carry stuff like food, water first aid etc. When he was about 11 I got him his first knife to carry whic was a big deal for him. I have found that after taking a few pigs and have my trophies I now just bone them out on the spot. I take the meat and put it in a 5 gallon bucket with two cups of salt and a bag or two of ice, add water. I leave it in there over night and change it in the morning, then soak it again all day. It pulls out all of the blood and 99% of the smell. I have been very fortunate to take them with rifle, pistol and bow over the last 25 years and am looking forward to hunting 16A after picking up a leftover tag for the General Javi hunt. I will probably go up and scout this weekend and maybe next too as this is a new unit for me and work has kept me super busy the last six weeks going to and from Kingman and it is killing me watching that area at 60mph. LOL Hey PRDATR when you say you re-soak them in the morning, do you just add new ice/water or do you also add another 2 cups of salt too? Yes, more ice, water and salt. If the water is pretty bloody after 6 hours the first time I dump it then and do another 6 hours.

My parents bought me a Red Ryder when I was probably six or eight. It couldn't hit squat and the BB's bounced off wood. I refused to use it and Dad was bummed and returned it. I doubt they have improved much since then. That was 50+ years ago. When my kids were growing up I let them shoot my 22's and by the age of 10 they each had a healthy respect of guns from shooting their first deer with a cut down 22-250 and my son got a SS 410 for his 10th birthday.

Very good area to hunt. Please, please, please get a lion tag.

I'll come right out and say if I stalked in and saw another hunter that close, at the Very Least I would stop and say hey and talk with him, or her. Just to find out their intentions or to let them know I was on a stalk. I think they knew exactly what they were doing. To far too many the end result justifies the means, shallow accomplishments. Last year I was up on 12BW and twice had the same hunter come into an area where my son and I were hunting. Both times he acknowledged we were there and backed out. The first time my son was on a stalk and when the deer bolted his son (about the same age as mine) jumped from the truck ready to shoot but he held him off so my son could make his shot, which didn't happen, and he realizing that the deer were on the run honked his horn, obviously to startle the deer in the hopes of making them stop. It didn't happen but from 300 yards away I could connect with him and what he was trying to do. I owe that white bearded sportmansman in the white truck a handshake and a cold beer. If he'll take it. Late that same day they showed up at a tank we were watching a few hundred yards from across a meadow and promptly left when I motioned where we were. One thing I tried unsuccessfully to explain to my son was the husband and wife in a shiny new F250 with a Sierra Vista dealer sticker who sported a carbon fiber rifle and swarvo everything had the gaul to setup 20 yards away from us, without a word after walking ten feet in front of us to watch the tank. We had been sitting there for a few hours before they showed up an hour before sunset. If he and I didn't both have company there would have definatley be a confrontation.

I got hit with Cancer, reaching out for Prayer
PRDATR replied to apache12's topic in Prayer Requests
Thats a tough break man. I have never been to that unit so can't be much help there but keep your head up they are doing amazing things against cancer. You and your family are in my prayers. -
Been down in 36B since friday and just noticed I got hit on friday so it looks like a pig tag but not turkey. Still looking forward to chasing them again.
-
After spending two days on the first hunt (helping scout) and four on the second hunt (solo) in 36B I only saw one spike and no Doe's today. On the average I saw 2-4 Doe's a day. I let the spike walk after watching him for 15 minutes. I hunted a popluar area south of Arivaca Lake but there were not a lot of deer around and I didn't see anything bigger than a two point taken but did here of a camp taking a few on opening day of the first hunt.

Elk moving south and Javelina moving north. Whats next Dogs sleeping with cats? LOL
-
I'm going to be camped (with soon to be friends) just south of the lake on the road that begins in the wash about halfway into the lake. I am probably going to be there tomorrow, late sometime, but definately like you on friday morn. If you want to hunt that area I'd be more than glad to have you tag along since my other hunting buddy (son) will be busy picking cotton. I did scout the area with a friend who had a tag on the first hunt so I at least know the roads. LOL I'll be in a red F250 and my license plate is my screen name. Or you can give me a buzz @ 602-499-06 one zero. Make sure you scope out the weather report, it'll be cool.

Wear a meat cutters knife on your weak hand. Saves a lot fingers and they are cheap.
