Pred, who the heck would be scared in the day when you can see and have a gun.Have you ever been down there and had someone sneeze at 20 yards from your tent at 2 am would that bother you? and what the heck would a radio do when your by yourself. The first time I hunted 36B my son and I were working the side of a hill about 30 yards from the ridge. I was just above him and came across a small game trail that went into some oaks. As I ducked under the branches much to my surprise there was a nicely flattened out bench complete with tarps, sleeping bags, cook stove, canned food, clothes and lots of Mexican magazines like the Hollywood gossip ones you see in the supermarket at the checkout stands. Made the hair on the back of my neck standup. Also came upon a similar setup in a grove of Tamarack's on a riverbank a few miles west of Red Rock when I was quail hunting. Can't say I have had anyone come into camp while I was there that I was aware of, but the last time I was there (last year) I was a 150 yards or so from the closest camp by choice as I usually retire early by most peoples standards and like to hit the hay by 10pm. Anyway there isn't much you can do if your alone and they want to come in. I have also been in a few areas down there where cell phone reception is nill, but at least with a two way radio the chances of raising another hunter are pretty good if you fall and break something.

Anyone Have a Barnes Loading Manual Handy
PRDATR replied to rossislider's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
He can probably reach max velocity equal to that of 4064 but it will take a few more grains of powder. I only used my 08 for hunting once and that was with 110gr's on a Javelina hunt. It spent all of it's life as a High Power Silhouette rifle. -

That powder is awfully slow for the 08. I always used powders like Varget and 4064 for the 140's and 760 for 168 Sierras. I'd start at 41.5 gr and go up from there looking for pressure signs but you will probably end up with a compressed load depending how far off the lands you stay. -
The biggest bull I saw was in 6A. Glassed him and a buddy just coming out in the open late one afternoon after two days of rain and snow. I was probably 3/4's of a mile away sitting up on a small mountain in the southern part of the hunt. I waited for what seemed like forever for his buddy to move so I could get a good look at him when he finally took another step forward and turned to face me and I saw that there wasn't another bull with him and what I had been looking at was one huge bull. With light fading all I could do was head back down the mountain to camp a few hundred yards below. My guide and I got up early and drove through the muck and mire the next morning to get a bit closer and hunted that hill pretty hard but only came across a couple of small 320ish bulls.

If I'm not out scouting for my late Nov WT hunt in 33 I'd also come up to lend you a hand. The weather should easily hit freezing each night and you could see it into the teens. Keep an eye on it as we have had years when there was enough snow the Ski Resorts opened up by Thanksgiving. Make sure you let someone know where you will be camping, it's always a good idea. If you have other camps in the vicinity stop in a say howdy. Most other hunters I have met were always courteous and offered to lend a hand if I wanted one should I bee lucky enough to get an animal down. The rut will be over and sometimes you can find a few bulls together in the evenings when the shadows get longer as they get up to move around around 4-4:30. They are usually pretty worn out after the rut and start heading to their beds at sunrise. It is also common to see a few with broken antlers. Good luck

There are a number of devices you can purchase, this is just one. I have seen smaller ones about the size of a key fob. http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/product/spark+nano+gps+tracking+device.do

Whoever you use have them double wrap it in freezer paper.

Most of them move in the night and hole up during the day either under low hanging branches of Oaks up on hillsides so they can see who is moving around below them or in the bottom of canyons where it is nice and shady. That is where I have seen their encampments and their foot trails are most everywhere once you get south of the lake whether you are up high or down low. You can rarely walk more than 200 yards north to south without crossing one. Telltale signs are they are wider than a game trail and water bottles strewn about with the occasional shoe, backpack or other article of clothing. Hunting alone as I do you shouldn't have any problems but take a radio and camp near others.

Tree Stand or Ground Blind (for new hunter)
PRDATR replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Definitely do not send him out without a GPS. What if he does shoot a deer and goes off to track it and gets turned around? Since he already knows how to shoot I'd spend a couple of days doing spot and stalk so he learns how to hunt. Anybody can sit in a blind or tree stand but if you want him to hunt as opposed to shoot then get out and spot and stalk. He won't learn much sitting on his duffer. -
How they heck do you use it? I couldn't get it to do much of anything other than a limited zoom on AZ.

Do a search on this forum. The 72 hours thingy was discussed about three or four months ago.

What's that got to do with shooting?

Part of Obama Care?
PRDATR replied to huntjunkie's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I would been very tempted to punch him in the nose. With all the nutjobs that have been responsible for mass shootings DC has been stepping up gathering info on people with the hope they can detect these folks before they go off the deepend. We should probably be proactive and report any suspicious behavior by friends, family etc to the authorities like good little sheeple. LOL -
Really sorry to hear about it getting to this and like 300ultramag I'm not a rich man and I know how it is to be in the same boat, so to speak. I'd be interested in talking to you about whatever fishing gear you have, or you can email me pictures to chris@csr-azdotcom

Are these factory stocks? I have an older LA/ADL synthetic I'd like to replace with something lighter. I purchased it back in 93 and it is a good stock but I'm just looking for something lighter on the old 7Mag. Let me know after Bryce Canyon decides what he wants. Thanks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwNzaBX96WI I'm not sure if the patent has been approved yet so you may have time. LOL

I used to see them near Horseshoe Canyon quite regularly back in the early 90's.

I was up in Colorado all weekend at my nephews wedding. I now have a bigger waist and a lighter wallet so I guess I'll go waddle over to the mailbox later today and have a look see if the tags arrived. It was a great trip but some serious flooding in Manitou, one killed and two missing.

I have gone both I-10 to Wilcox and the back way through Oracle to Sam Manuel to Three Links.

"pesky little deer", That's pretty funny, I like it.
-
They're attracted to CO2.

That stinks. I would love to buy a few cameras to set in 33 for my WT hunt but just can't see spending the coin for them and the diesel to set them. Sure would like to see someone park and then also see them vandalize a camera.
-
So can a 223 but I wouldn't bet a hunt on it.

Less than 30 days before Dove Season
PRDATR replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Definitely take them to Robbins Butte for the youth hunts that G&F puts on. http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/wildlife_area_robbins.shtml
