kidso, I have a Brinkman you are welcome to use ( I live in the East Valley) but I have only smoked Trout, Chicken and Pork Ribs and Roasts. What I have found is the best Charcoal is the bags of mesquite chunks from Mexico called El Diablo. I use a chimney starter with packing paper and a bit of charcoal fluid to get it started and it is ready in under 15 minutes. I also have some mesquite wood for some added smoke but this charcoal adds a really mellow flavor to it throughout the whole process. With the larger pieces of charcoal in there it is pretty easy to maintain a consistent 200-250 dgF for a few hours. I buy it in the 40# bags at Food City and have found it is the best. Some pieces are pretty big 12" long x 3-4" in diameter and need to be chopped down but they are actual pieces of mesquite branches. One thing I learned was if I used regular charcoal and kept putting woods chips that I had soaked to keep the smoke going throughout the process the smoke made whatever I was cooking have a bitter taste probably from the Tannins. From what I have read is the actual smoke should be kept to the first half hour or so as after that the meat has started to cook and will not absorb any more smoke flavor.

With the cooler weather and forecasted rain this weekend I suspect the White Wings will start heading south in greater numbers, as is usually the case it seems every year.

Look like WT to me right down to the tail and antlers.

Calling around is a whole lot quicker than driving around looking for it.

Is the vegetation green? I wouldn't count on there being water three weeks from now and if there isn't any sign in those areas you need to find another area to set up your blind.

I think that the Rut will be in full swing by the 10th and we are going to have an early winter. My nephews wife said the leaves are beginning to turn yellow on a few of her trees up in central Colorado.

Have you used them in the field yet? How big is the FOV at say 800-1000 yards? I have used both 15x56's and 20x80's and the latter has a noticeably smaller field of view.

Most likely it was diatamaceous earth -- the same stuff used in many swimming pool filters. It's a non-poisonous, natural occuring substance. Each tiny granule of DE has many sharp edges that cuts through the ants' exo-skeleton, basically dehydrating them of all their vital fluid. Another one is Boric Acid powder.

FYI, "if" you are going to reload it i have read that the primer pockets tend to expand more than other brands of brass and won't hold primers so you may only get a couple of reloads out of them.

During the spring areas like the Tonto Creek end of Lake Roosevelt can be productive as the carp move into the shallows and feed on the grass along the shore and are a bit oblivious to what is going on around them. They do get shot from the shore but many people have boats equipped with platforms to stand on and lights for night shooting. There were some big tournaments in the spring and there are quite a few posts about them on here so take some time and read through them. Good Luck and remember, aim low.
