No prior military experience, medical reasons, but the Recruiter is a tool. IMHO.

Family Squirrel Hunt
PRDATR replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
That looked like a lot of fun. My son and I should have done that instead of hunting quail on Saturday. -

Nice rope tail. Perfect shot, unless you were planning on eating the heart. Congrats are in order to you both.

Nice Rack. Don't boil it, just keep it close to a boil and get those antlers out of the water.

No wonder people think hunters are stupid. Can we possibly drag this out for another four or five pages. Is it too much to ask for some people (you know who you are) to actually read the regs and pay attention to what has been going on for the last few months instead crying like some sort of victim and dragging this out with "but, but, but". Are things really that slow south of Flag? Pretty sure there is at least two or three High Schools up there. Sheesh.

Quail season is coming
PRDATR replied to Coues assassin's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Quail in my experience like to warm up so I don't mess with them until after 8AM but they are pretty active all day, except for me today, LOL. I hunted with my son in 23 South. First spot where we shot a few last year was a bust. We took A Cross road to my other spot and walked a country mile and didn't see squat, until we got back to the truck and there they were. We chased them and threw some lead for another 30 minutes but came up empty. The little boogers were all older birds and well educated not flying until I walked past them and a few flew like dragonfly's with their tails on fire never getting more than a few feet off the ground. Not sure where I'm going tomorrow. We did see a bunch of Devils Claw ready to be picked and the Pears were ripe and huge. -
2014 Muzzleloader Bull (Updated with story)

Yeah that looks pretty steep. Congrats, looking forward to the story. -
Each landowner is alloted so many tags by the State Biologist who usually works with an outfitter to bring in hunters is the way I understand it. Not exactly a DIY hunt.

I've used W760 in a 30-06 with good results but I have heard that H414 is pretty temperature sensitive.

Guess I'm a couple of days late to the dance.

Can you actually still hunt unit 32? And a AZGFD mini-rant.
PRDATR replied to sjpitts's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This constant loss of access is tough to see happen. When I moved here in 1977 from NY one thing that I loved was there was seemingly unlimited access to vast areas to hunt. I really need to put my nose to the grindstone and map to find some access points into 32 for my late November hunt. I can sympathise with landowners and have seen a guide mention on another FB Forum that he has access to a few private ranches in 32. That's all fine and dandy for his clients but it is a bit disheartening. For you folks who hunt this unit I'd appreciate it if you want to take the time to message me about areas that I shouldn't waste my time driving to just to find a locaked gate. One area I was looking to scout is on the westside via Peters Wash. -
DEET works well for ticks and just keeping covered. Hard winters will knock them back a bit but NY is a lot wetter climate than here in AZ so it lends to the proliferation of ticks. Just go do your thing and don't worry about it.

looking for a good diesel mechanic
PRDATR replied to desertheritagetaxidermy's topic in Classified Ads
Where are you located? Give Chris at Rowdy Racks a call (Chris's cell # 480*221*3384) he works on a variety of diesels. He just moved his shop from AJ to Mesa. I have never heard a bad thing said about him. https://www.facebook.com/RowdyRacksLLC -
Maybe something can be worked out with the landowners. I have a hunt in 32 so I'll start scouting in other areas since the unit is new to me.

Is the Long Hollow Rd in 32 near Four Mile? I couldn't find it on Google Earth.

I know that Nate over at Strictly Diesel has gotten about 18mpg on the highway but his is a 2WD. He keeps a record of each tank and he said it has worked out to an average of 16.55mpg over the last 48 tanks and that's all driving including city and towing.

It a screw up with the Spring Application Process, which has caused a lot of grief for people so far. Bottom line is you do not need to purchase a 2015 license yet, just put down your 2014 number. When and if you get drawn you will need to have a 2015 license but don't purchase one until your 2014 expires. Licenses are now good for 365 days from the day you made the purchase which is good for those who don't purchase a license every year or maybe just bought one for Dove Season only to have it expire four months later, now it is good for a year.

That's a huge deer. Just asking but wouldn't a typical be a 4x4 and this one a non-typical since it looks like a 5x4?

This is from the G&F Weekly Report last week. WATSON – Trout were last stocked the week of Feb. 3. Largemouth bass should be feeding as well as bluegill. Look for large holdover trout from previous stockings to become active since the lake has filled and the water temperatures are dropping. Trout stocking will resume in October in conjunction with the Prescott Great Outdoors event at Watson Lake. If you fish Watson and are having luck, please e-mail me at gcummins@azgfd.gov so I can share your successes with others.

I brined the one I got this spring in a mixture of rosemary, sage and tyme and then cooked it in an oven bag. It was crazy tender and delicious.
