Shotgun patterning question
PRDATR replied to slopoke36's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Phil I want to thank you for taking the time out to write up a detailed explanation of shotgun fit. I'm surprised that more manufacturers do not at least put some shims in with a shotgun, especially the more pricey ones. A few years ago I went on the hunt for a new shotgun and wanted a semi. I would go in the store and shoulder the gun with my eyes closed a couple of times just to get a feel for mounting it comfortably. What I found was the one that felt the best had me needing to bring my head up off the stock just a tiny bit to get a good sight picture. I never did get a gun that year and have been staying with an old Model 12 which fits me perfectly and my eye looks right down the vent rib. I had an old shooting buddy by the name of Mardy Kemmer who was very into shooting Trap and Skeet. One year he bought his wife a shotgun and took it to a smith who adjusted it to fit her. Do you know if there is anyone in AZ who does this anymore? I picked up a semiauto recently and would like to see about possibly having it check for the way it fits me. When I shot HP Silhouette I bought a stock from H&S that had just the right amount of cast for me allowing my eye to align perfectly with the scope but I don't believe there are any stock manufacturers that offer that option any longer. -

The kid working the counter had no idea what they were and barely figured out how to fill it out. I told him to make sure to have the person sign across it when they put it on their license. -
Leupold rings and bases are about as simple as it gets and install is pretty straightforward so I don't know why they were having trouble.

Is he a NASCAR driver?

Let's face it. Hunting the southern units just isn't for everyone. I doubt he killed anything though because the deer could probably smell the fear.

Great trip, I would love to do some fishing over there. -
Sounds like he will be scouting the area for Elk while he is archery deer hunting. I'd say go up and do some camping over the 4th to familiarize yourself with the area.

Yeah, this has been circulating around the internet for about a week or so. Pretty funny to read some of the peoples comments.

Shotgun patterning question
PRDATR replied to slopoke36's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Not everyone mounts the shotgun the same everytime. So, even though the pattern can be about the same for a given choke it can be high, low or off to one side. Patterning will let you know where most of the shot is going. Ever go and shoot doves and nail everyone of them and the next week only hit one out of four? Yeah me neither LOL -
??? for you / ALMOST DOVE TIME! yeee ha

Already put in an RTO for a half day on both the 1st and 2nd. I'm salary and worked nine hours on a Saturday a couple of months back and am probably out of vacation days since the bosses wife changed a sick day I took (boss said it was ok to take one) to a vacation day after I took it. I get 6 a year but we don't get paid for them if we don't take them and in almost five years I have only taken two. -
Hoghunter this was manufactured in 2000, hence the older style pistol grip.

Yeah I read that this morning, I'll have to remove it. The two letter code I found is higher than the dates they had listed so I went to the Beretta site but it looks like I'm one number short from what I took off of the bottom of the receiver.

I've done all my own oil changes (over 50) except for a few on a 2000 F250 7.3 and probably 90% of them was with Rotella T6 and a Motorcraft Filter with with tax is close to $100.00 since it takes 15qts and I but four one gallon jugs. Fuel Filters run about $35 and get changes every 15K. -

Same here. How big are the parents? -
I have not had a Coleman that lasted more than 5 years and the last one (10x10) Sundome that my son got as a present barley made it through a very windy night in 23. The poles nearly wore through the fabric and it was pretty much junk after that. I have a Trekker 10x10 I bought at Cabelas about 4 years ago and it has held up well and was $120.00. It comfortable sleeps two people and we use Slumberjack cots, one on each side with a few feet in between the cots to move about and enough room at the door to put a heater for those cold nights. I can set it up by myself in under 10 minutes and it is about 6'6 in the middle.

A person who violates subsection A is guilty of a class 6 felony.

I mainly e-scout and send PM's. LOL But seriously. I try to scout all year and have some favorite places to hunt that typically hold deer. With so many back to back hunts in some units it makes it tougher to scout leading up to a particular hunt.

Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???
PRDATR replied to Big Browns's topic in Youth Hunters
I did it when I was 16, mandatory in NY. It is also mandatory in Colorado I believe for anyone born after 1949. Both my kids accompanied me on hunts from the time they were about 4 and when they asked to hunt does on the Kaibab they went through Hunter Ed in Gilbert which was evening classes. Maybe four or six. It was fun and they enjoyed it. Especially my daughter because she got a higher score than me. When they are ready to drive are you just going to throw them some keys? If you let them skate and circumvent the rules now they will think they can do it for everything else in life and you will be "potentially" picking up after them until they are in their 40's. They need to earn it and understand fail and reward. G&F needs to have a lot more of these classes and make it easier for people to attend them. Kids and adults really get a lot out of these classes, way more than one parent can teach their kids, because the mere nature of being in an interactive environment with two or three instructors and thirty other people is years of knowledge crammed into a few weeks. Your a good guy Adam and I know you love your kids but you have your work cut out for you to bring them around and show them the value in it and explain that this is just they way it is and ask them just how bad they want it. Everyone fears failure, that is just human nature. When they want it bad enough they will settle down and come around but do not fall into their trap, which is hard when you love your kids so much. You're on the right path, but in the end the choice is up to them. This class should not be an online class that can be taken willie nillie by kids or someone else. -
Word was it was a kill.
