Turkey Hunting and Calling Seminar Wednesday April 5th 6PM at Mesa Sportsman's
PRDATR replied to Little Creek Calls's topic in Turkeys!
I need that T-Shirt that says "THE JOB THAT ATE MY BRAIN". Since I completely forgot about it. Glad I bought one of your box calls two years ago. It has accounted for one Merimans here and a Goulds in MX. I am going to OK next year for Rio's and I'm sure it will work there too. -
What rifle are you using?

Sad to see members here stoop to this level of self indulgence, profanity lacks sanity. Very disappointed in a lot of people on here, a well respected public forum. Pretty disgusting attitudes but I guess some people just feel the need to prove something.

I HATE that they now blab it.

Use way less alcohol. I use about 10% of 90%. I lay it flat and put a toothpick each inch then roll it up, put it in a small pill bottle and leave it for about 4 days.

The ones I have seen roosting up in ponderosa pines were 30 to 40' up. Two different trees were about 50' up on a slope but two other trees in different locations were on flat ground just off a creek. I mexico last year we had some that were roosted up in beech trees on the edge of a wash in another flat area and again in mexico during a january coues hunt I watched two groups of birds walk up the wash below me just after sundown then fly about 40 yards into some trees that were about 30 feet up on a slope. bluedevil it sounds like you have a pretty good area located. Are you planning on hitting any of the turkey seminars coming up? I have found that they will stay on the roost until it is light enough for them to see there aren't any predators moving around before they fly down which is usually about 15 minutes before sunrise. I have seen two birds taken before the sun came up and both times the birds were on the ground for a good five minutes. The first time I had my son on his second hunt and we knew where the birds were as we saw them scratching it up in a plowed field the day before and sat and watched them walk single file from the field about 100 yards then disappear into some trees. We snuck in early the next morning and waited for them to fly down and after about 10 minuted they made their way past us giving him a nice 20 yard shot. The birds in mexico were also followed to the roost and we did the same thing the next morning. You never really know where they will fly down to but we got lucky and one by one they flew past us and grouped up. After a few minutes I started calling and a few hens came over to investigate. One walked about 10 feet from us then another one appeared and another. The the tom came but I could hear him drumming before he actually was visible. I was the caller and they walked past me and the landowner then dropped into the wash. Once they were out of site I gave them a little time as I was waiting for my friend to shoot, and waiting. Finally I started to call again hoping to keep them in the area then heard boom!. Seems he was directly across the wash from us and had to reposition as the birds were in between him and us. He hade made a great shout, maybe 12 yards on a nice fat bird about 10 minutes before the sun rose.

It varies. A couple of years ago it was already open and a few years before that it was mid May.

PRDATR replied to 1denogean's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Moosejaw has them on sale too for some huge savings. -
Too early sounds like. I know that in the Deep South seasons have already opened.

I spoke the Heber Office last Monday and was told they had to send in a plow so SRP could put in the meter at WCL a few days before and were planning on opening the road around the 15th. Said they had just got 18", which I was surprised he said that as I flew over the lake on Sunday afternoon an my way back from NY and didn't see any snow.

Every year our birds are already at it this time of year. G&F sets the season later so the toms have a chance to breed the hens.

Love Kings. They have some huge clearance sales a few times a year. I just bought rain gear at 50% off and a nice flannel shirt at about 65% off.

Still shooting my Martin Tiger which is like 29 years old so this might be the year I get something new for the next 29 years. Even at about 65#'s It only shoots at 211. I guess relatively slow compared to the current speed demons but I'm slow to change. I shot it with finger tabs and no sights for the first few years before adding sights and then two more years before going to a release, and spring rest.

I don't know what brand you use but this is all I'll put in my smoker. I usually buy it at Bashas and get the 40lb bag for about $14. Food City has it too but sometimes they won't let loose of the 40lb bags because they use it on their big grills outside. I use a chimney to get it started. Works when I want to grill on the smoker too. http://www.eldiablocharcoal.com/

Heck of a lot of money for a mix breed.

I bet Big Browns already has a box. I'll give him a call. I saw his number on the bathroom stall at the gas station. I bet he uses a different colored sharpie each time to throw people off.

Yeah, that wasn't cool at all. You should have gone right over to Axis, he is a good guy. -

Any gunsmiths in the Valley do warranty for Savage?
PRDATR replied to PRDATR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I contacted them on Monday and was told they are waiting on a replacement. I shot them another email today requesting a tracking number when they ship it so we will see how that goes. -
Any gunsmiths in the Valley do warranty for Savage?
PRDATR posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The short of it is I bought an Axis a few weeks ago from Cabelas and the front screw hole had grease and some fileings in it as though it wasn't fully threaded. I cleaned it out and blew some air into it and stuck a toothpick into it but it only goes in about 3/16th's. That seems like it may be too shallow as when I put the one piece Talley base and ring on I only get about 1/2 a turn or so once the base mates up to the receiver. It seems like the hole should be deeper. The rest of the holes are fine with nice sharp threads. I am waiting to hear back from them as I did an online repair ticket.
