For a young kid lots of time getting the knack to use a spinning reel can have more of a learning curve that a kids setup with a pushbutton reel. You can get those readily at Walmart in a combo with a 4 to 5 foot pole. Only thing I would recommend would be to take the line that comes on it off and put some 6 or 8 pound test Berkley Trilene fishing line. It will cast smoother and wont have have the memory that cheaper lines have. Game and fish does a few free fishing clinics all year and there is one near you on May 6th. The Urban Lakes program is really well supported and most all lakes are stocked every week or so with catfish now in the summer months and trout in the winter. A 35 year old Mossberg 500 with a Primos Tight Wad choke and Winchester Long Beard 12ga #4. It was originally a 28" modified barrel. Sometime in the early 80 I bought a 26" vent rib barrel with screw in chokes and sent it out and had it backbored and the forcingcone lengthened. Added a mercury supressor in the tube and a mechanical recoil device in the stock and adjustable sights. Ain't purty, in fact I did a hand painted Realtree paint job with model airplane paint with a little brush before companies offered camo stocks. Works for me.

If that don't work for you Stevie Ray Vaughn "Voodoo Child - Slight Return" or "Little Wing" (though he should have done the vocals). Johnny Cash "Hurt" (Friggin Classic). Metallica's Cover of a Cover "Whiskey in the Jar". And a WHOLE BUNCH OF ZAKK WYLDE stuff (Hello Zakk Sabath). Not that those aren't good though. Not bad for a 3 piece band. They would play in the city at the Electric Circus but I wasn't old enough to get in, admission was $2.

Can't comment on the amount of grooves but I had a 700 factory heavy barrel 7-08 and it was 9 1/4 and a hot Sierra HPBTM 168's in clover leafs or smaller.

I'll add that the trigger on the Tika can be adjusted through the trigger guard without taking the action out of the stock. I had a T3 Lite in 308 great rifle. After I bought it I decided I liked my 7 Mag better so I gave it to my nephew. Tikka is top notch.

You cant catch fish from the bank, what are you talkin bout? if you want to spend your whole day snagged and retying and stumbling over rattlesnakes and ankle breaking rocks a guy could try to catch some. imo not worth it You just had to go and mention the snake thing, now Adam will never go.
