Cool story and congrats.

Why is that? Personally I have always wanted to go to Tropic Star.

I have killed a few with the 243 and probably 15 between archery, handgun, 22-250 and 7-08 and I would used a softpoint in the lungs. I have used 80-100 gr in the 243.

When you brine in the bucket of ice, is that deboned meat, whole quarters, etc. and do you have salt (and how much) in that brine? Yes, deboned. I will put the meat in with a few gallons of bottled water and a couple of bags of ice and two cups of Kosher salt. Most of the time I get about 15 pounds of deboned meat.

This is a very good resource however I disagree with this statement; Besides finding suitable habitat, the greatest limiting factor for Javelina expansion into new areas in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and beyond, is climate. Javelina have no under fur, so they cannot survive winter in a cold climate. I have seen them in the snow in Prescott and it gets pretty cold around Williams.

If we get a rain then go walk the washes and look for tracks. I have seen them from the low deserts to the pines on the Young Road south of Young and up near Williams. In the desert areas I like to hunt where there is mixed terrain of washes, hills and flat areas. They really like to bed under Palo Verdes even if the trees are on the top of a hill. They like to eat mesquite beans, prickly pear pads, hedgehog cacti and the centers of small shin daggers (yucca). The scent gland on the back has a small opening and looks like a navel with mud around it. It will stay attached to the hide when you skin them. Once I get the meat home I brine it in a bucket of ice for about 4-6 hours to draw out the blood and about 90% of the skunk smell, then drain it and brine it once more. After that I pat it dry and put it in a big bowl/container in the fridge for a few days to age. If you play the wind and cover you can get within a few yards of them. When you bust them, and you will. They will scatter but stay still and wait 30 seconds then call them back by woofing to them 3 or 4 times in short grunts and then will come back to investigate.

Southern AZ Weather Expectations
PRDATR replied to high rise hunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
That is usually some of the coldest days in January. Mule deer will be in the Rut with Coues just starting, snow is a possibility with night time temps at 32 or less the norm. Did you call G&F to verify the leftovers? They started giving them out via mail in apps on this past Monday. -

Southern AZ Weather Expectations
PRDATR replied to high rise hunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Those are potential lows to potential highs depending on where you are. Best thing to do is track the weather for cities close to where you will be. "Typical" daily temp swings are 30 degrees but sometimes can be 35. In higher elevations it might just be 20 degrees one day but still upwards of a 30 degree swing the next day. We have been unusually dry since September and there really isn't much rain or snow forcast in the near future. -
I have seen them in the Chiricahua's and in Sonora when hunting deer and turkey but have not hunted them specifically and wouldn't mind tagging along and sharing expenses. I hunted scalies around Sunazona in the 80's with my father-in-law and that was way more fun than hunting Gambels.

This is sound advice. I have found that most herds stay in a 1-1.5 mile circle year after year.
-
Are you staying in the Green Zone?
-
I remember seeing a picture a few years ago of two fox about 40' up in a Cottonwood tree.

I checked and they were listed this morning.

Saw mine this morning.

Yeah NO!. Yesterday was the first day G&F accepted mail in apps.

Where is " local" ?

56 cents if you have SRP. I have APS so probably $15 SRP is 8.03 cents per KW. You can go online and see what APS charges but then they do peak too. I have an old Brinkman smoker and use El Diablo Mesquite Charcoal.
