That might be the place Big Browns went a couple of years ago. Do a search on here for it. -
You might find some old Leicas for that. The ranch owner in Sonora had a pair this past spring. They were on par with my Sig Kilo.

Welcome to CWT. Nothing wrong with having more scope power, you should do fine with the setup you have though.

Welcome to the site. You can camp where ever you want. Trails are where you make them, only hiker use trails and there are a few hiking books with trails but local hunters just go cross country to where ever we want to go. Weather will be 25 to 45 at night and 35 degrees warmer during the day. Maps can be bought from the National Forest Service or some of the online map services. Walking will be like walking in a rock quarry. You can't put your foot down without stepping on rocks, pebbles sand, snakes etc. One of you really should come out to look over the unit and get the lay of the land so to speak and just split that cost so you can see what you'll be up against. -
THey are having some struggles, closed a store in Mesa early last year. They want to keep the home town feel but it's hard to compete in some areas on prices. THey definately need a new business model, maybe something like what TOYSRUS just did.

I heard that Bashas owns Food City. I like Bashas, they put stores in towns that had nothing like San Carlos and Springerville. My mom worked for them as a cashier for a few years and one day a customer came up a little short so she covered it. He boss read her the riot act and a few weeks later Eddie Basha stopped by the store and my mom read him the riot act. He just laughed and said he probably would have done the same thing and told her she had a job there for as long as she ever wanted one. Mom passed in 2017 at 87 and always talked about "Eddie" and what a great guy he was.

My son and I did our usual thing. Find a place to camp, get up early have a quick bite to eat, put on our packs and head out about an hour before sunrise and cover ground. Funny you should mention waterholes. Now just at first light I glassed up some deer a few hundred yards away on the edge of a pasture so we worked our way to them and when we popped out there was a small buck with the doe's moving off but my son wasn't up to snuff to be able to get a shot off. I then glassed up some other deer about 400 yards across the pasture and saw one was a buck so we cut across the pasture as the deer fed into the tree line. We cam out on the other side and looked around for them but there was a sloping cut so I told my son to head into it and be ready. As he went a truck across the next field appeared driving real slow with the headlights still on even though it was light and the sun was coming up. I saw my son pop up about 50 yards away and then the deer appeared out in front of him. JUst a little spooked but again he had trouble getting steady for a shot and then the truck stopped about 250 yards away and the grandpa and grandson we would run into later in the day, got out and the kid readied for a shot but the old man waved him off. My son kept waiting for the deer to stop so he could get a shot but they never did. About 4pm we found a tank so we set up about 150 yards across an open firm from it and just waited. Maybe an hour later a grandpa and his 20 something son drove about 50 yards from it and parked. I stood up and waved to them and he waved back and backed out. Maybe an hour later a husband and wife came walking along and started to step into where we were sitting under some Junipers. They saw us and waved then went back the way they came. We sat there until sunset and not seeing anything we packed up and left as we had about a mile hike back to where we were camped. We went about 40' and there was the husband and wife all set up. I hear they do OTC Elk tags for that area so if that is still the case I would get one.

I had the 1st hunt about 5 years ago and saw a couple of smaller bucks but my son wasn't fast enough to get a shot off. Everyone we came across on that hunt were road hunting.

Steiner 20x80's have a FOV of 174' at 1000 yards, aprox 25% less than 15's. 87' @ 500 yards The 18's have a FOV of 194 feet at 1000 yards. 97' @ 500 yards. The Swarovski 15's are 234' @ 1000 yards. 117' @ 500 yards. The 12x50 El's are 300' @ 1000 yards. 150' @ 500 yards. How much magnification you need is a personal choice.
-
Guaranteed to be smaller. I have some 20x80's and FOV is probably 60% of 15's. Very noticeable.
