Is it too late to put in for the Spring Draw?
-
I hunted it 22/23 years ago and it was bitter cold sleeping in my camper shell.

The world needs more people like that.

Shooting from a boat in NM
PRDATR replied to Sundevils79's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
If there is nothing prohibiting it you technically should be ok as long as the boat isn't underway and you're not within a 1/4 mile of a boat ramp or pinic area. -
Nice looking older buck. Good shooting!

Love my Wyoming Saw. I've had it for probably 30 years, same skinner too.

I usually go to the Spillway CG. Nice and convient.

I have a single $25 hit so I won't know for a while if I got a Javelina or Turkey Tag.
-
Sure don't Bob. I will be going also as a childhood friend relocated there and mentioned my turkey quest to a friend who hunts and he kindly offered to take me next year. I am also going to try to get an Eastern too in 2020 and that will just leave the Oscellated.

I have 20 points here and 4 in Wyoming. A friend has gifted me meat twice. I'd rather eat that than deer or elk.

I see the store at WCL is closing on the 31st. My buddy and I were going to go camping this weekend there but his daughter is bring the new boyfriend by tomorrow to meet the fam so we were going to push it out a week. USFS in Heber said all the campground are closing this weekend so we might need a change in plans.

You might want to do a search on here about them. There was a discussion a few months back and it wasn't very favorable.

Congrats on a successful hunt. I just bought another Preference Point this week. Might go next year.

Post it on the Powerstroke of Arizona FB Page. There are always people looking for them. -
One for 25. All I put in for was pig and turkey.

SUrely not. Probably 2006 or so.

That's great that you both were able to connect. Does make for a lot of work though. Congrats.

FYI, Night time temps can get well below freezing.

Very similar to snapper. Louisiana probably has the most liberal creel limit of 5 per day but they must be 15" and only one can be over 27". When they exceed 27" they are referred to as Bull Reds. The one in my avatar was about 37" and was released to fight another day. That one was caught on dead shrimp on the bottom and I fought it for 20 minutes before it rolled and I could identify what it was. We initially thought it might have been a Bull Shark.

I had a few days off left after returning from Texas hunting hogs with my son so I flew to New Orleans to spend a few days with one of my brothers and catch up with old friends. We managed to fish on Saturday and Sunday targeting Speckled Trout. The water was unusually high after a storm pushed water into the marsh from the gulf and about 11:00 Sunday morning on our way back into Bayou Blue we saw a few gulls diving and shrimp jumping so we killed the motor and drifted closer. I lost one trout and my brother caught a nice one that was about 18" just before another boat came up on us and died. He kept cranking the motor and when it would start he revved it up and drifted into us which blew the fish out. After a few tries he managed to get it running and left. We continued to drift and cast and about 10 minutes my cork went under and this Redfish started the first of five runs. After about 3-5 minutes we were able to get him into the net. He measured 27 1/2" and I guessed his weight to be about 10 pounds and into the cooler he went. I was using a Ugly Stick with a spinning reel and 20# Floroclear and a Vudu Shrimp about 2' under a Four Horseman Popping Cork, https://www.cajunlures.com/products/four-horseman-popping-cork?variant=19840418840638 . I had a 6:50 flight to catch so we headed back to the boat ramp. Along the way we came across the same guy and his motor had died and he was using his trolling motor to get back to the ramp, which was about 3 miles away. We offered him a tow since there was no way he was going to get back on his trolling motor. Odd thing was he didn't attempt to flag us down, not sure what he was thinking since he had two other people in the boat with him.

Treble hooks will help but they are harder to get out if you want to release the smaller ones. I usually use a #6 Octopus Hook with one or two Power Eggs since they are harder to get off and I can usually catch 3-4 fish on the same eggs. I use a hemostat to remove the hook but it looks like you did ok.

PRDATR replied to CatfishKev's topic in Buffalo Hunting
You and Pickles are top notch parents. One day, maaany years from now your kids will look back and talk about this. -
Still a bunch cheaper than going to Sonora.
