School me on socks, liners, insoles, wax, etc..
pilgrim replied to AZ RANGER's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I'm a big fan of Smartwool socks. I use the 'treking' socks that they make. Lots of thick cushioning for these poor ole tired dogs of mine. I'm breaking in a pair of Asolo boots & these socks are great. pilgrim -
General hunt 17a/b. My backyard... Good Luck to everyone ! Pilgrim

Went to retrieve a quail out of the brush this afternoon & dam near steped on a rattlesnake. Granted, I was at lower elevations around 4300'. Man I thought those darn things had gone underground by now. Anyone know when they do hibernate?

Records show G&F cashed my check today. Seems awfully quick ? Now the question remains, what unit. Good luck to everyone in the draw & their unit of choice. pilgrim

Here is a web address for a trapping supply outfit. I'm not very computer savvy, so I will have to put the address this way. www.fntpost.com/ The name of the outfit is F & T Fur Harvesters Trading Post. Hopefully, You can find gear that will fit your budget. pilgrim

Some helpful small game hunting links
pilgrim replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thanks, Amanda for the links for small game hunting. The methods shown sure beat my methods. pilgrim -
I came through Cordes today around noon & there is no snow on the ground, a little rain on the windshield. Didn't go by Dugas today, took 69 into Prescott. I usually take 169 over. I've been working in Phx. this past week. Thursday morning the wife called & said there was about 6'' on the ground; at noon she said the rain had melted that snow. So I suppose they might have gotten a dustin. Gotta love the storms of the past week! pilgrim

Have you tried Hastings the video/movie store. If you don't have one in PV, try the one in Prescott by the hospital. They carry a large selection of hunting, weapons, fishing related magazines. Good luck. pilgrim

Got out for a little squireel hunting this afternoon. Managed to put one in the bag! I think the cloud cover today had something to do with it. All the colors seemed to be really muted, hard to pick out those critters. Heard a lot of turkeys up there. The best part was coming out on top of this drainage, only to run up on 2 javelina. They were busy rooting round & didn't want to budge, so walked past them about 6' away; like I wasn't there. This was at 6,000' in the snow! Now will that happen again at the end of Feb., with a tag in my pocket? HA,HA. All in all just a great day! Happy Holidays to all, Jim

Good Day in the woods
pilgrim replied to pilgrim's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
DUG, I was just west of Prescott. Near Mt. Francis & the comm. towers. The south facing slopes are pretty much snow free, but the north facing slopes still have up to 4''. We are suppose to get some snow tommorrow & tommorrow nite; or so they say. BTW, I did come across some bear track & scat in a snowy area. Talked with G&F today, they say with mild weather the boars do come out to feed now & again. Hope you & the kids can get out...good luck! pilgrim -
Anyone Have any advice on the correct way to clean bino lens? I was using my lens pen & noticed it had left a bit of a smudge. Tried again & the smudge spread a bit. Tried using warm water on a Q-Tip, to no effect. The lens pen had worked great till now, all of a sudden like. Thanks... pilgrim
-
Thank you, MuleyMan. I really do appreciate all your advice. Think I will try the optic shop where I get my glasses at. pilgrim
-
Thanks, Red Rabbit for the advice. I'll check on those lens wipes, see if I can find some around here. Still can't believe there isn't a camera store in Prescott anymore! Thanks for the heads up on the sueade part of the lens pen. pilgrim

The rain & snow has kept me inside all day, 'cept for picking up the grandson at school today. Tommorrow I've got to get out! Anyone have any thoughts on chasing squirrels in the snow? Although very, very happy to get the moisture...finally.

Found a successful Deer/Rabbit camp?
pilgrim replied to June's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
+1 as to the comments above. The trash I come across just boggles my mind. I was out & about today, goin down a hillside. Someone had rolled a full roll of TP down the side of this canyon. Now WTH is up with these jerks... Get a rope 'an drag em back to the law. OK, I'm done. Maybe I should get a larger day pack ? pilgrim -
Drew 20a rifle. Seen alot of sign both high up & in the flats. Tag soup last year(19b). Good luck to all!
