What rifle are your kids shooting???

Hey Phillyman, I purchased my son a Howa .243 (called the 2•n•1 youth model) which comes with 2 stocks. A small youth stock and as he/she grows up you can put the the larger one on. This past Oct. my son shot a cow elk with it and it did the job. The cow only ran 40 yards before she fell over. We were using the Federal Premium Nosler Partition in the 100 grain. They seem to have done the job. But as they all say shot placement is the key to any rifle you shoot. I think the rifle your father gave your son will work perfect for many years. JD

  8. Found this while reading the Arizona Daily Star. Hope they catch these creeps. Sounds like the same story that Rifle2Bow posted about poachers ruining his hunt. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a reward of up to $1,250 for information leading to an arrest in the fatal shooting of a young deer by a poacher in southern Arizona. The department says the doe was shot by a man with a rifle at approximately 5 p.m. on Oct. 28 near Madera Canyon Road south of Tucson. The shooter is described as between 30 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds with short, light brown hair and wearing camouflage. The shooter was accompanied by a man in his late 60s or early 70s. That man is described as 5-foot-9, 175 pounds with short salt-and-pepper graying hair. Just thought I would share, JD

  24. Brother shoots sibling in Arizona hunting accident FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting involving two brothers who were turkey hunting southeast of Flagstaff. Arizona Game and Fish Department officials say the men from Surprise were pursuing and calling turkeys late Saturday when one of the men fired his 12-gauge shotgun about 25 yards away from his sibling. Authorities say the victim was sitting against a tree and wearing camouflage clothes at the time. He was shot in the shoulder, but the wounds weren't life threatening. He was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. The brothers' names haven't been released. Officials say the Coconino County Attorney's Office will review the case to determine if charges will be filed. Game and Fish spokeswoman Shelly Shepherd says Arizona has had 26 hunting accidents since 2007, including three fatalities.
