To POP, I love it when a Father has a desire to spend every moment with his children. So many today would sacrifice their children for themselves in fear they would ruin their chances of a deer. I enjoyed your story and congratulation to Weston. The memory is worth more than the reward. But the reward is sweet. What does Mel's buck look like???

I do not have the complete story so I'll summerize. Les competed the opening weekend of this hunt in the Ironman 70.3. To tired to hunt the Monday after the race he waited to go out Tuesday. He knew where this monster was hanging out in and found him Tuesday morning. From what he said he waited 3 hours for him to get up out of his bed. He finally stood up and made a 300yd shot which hit him but only put him back in his bed. Hours later, Les went to see if the hit was good and ended up having to put 2 more into him. He can add more if he wants to, to the story. I have no side shots. They aged the deer around 10yrs. This was the October hunt. The buck still had some velvet on and testies were fine.

Anyone ever customized a T/C Encore Pro Hunter. I have a fairly new 7mm that I want to see what it will take to tighten up the groups. What have you done and what should be done first. So far, the only thing I have done is break in the barrel properly. If you know a good shop to do the work, let me know also. If you have one, what are you shooting (round) what are your groups and yards.

Customizing a T/C Encore
TEAM JESUS replied to TEAM JESUS's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Next question- Is the T/C your first choice to hunt with now that you have had some customization done to your gun. Do you pull it our first? -
How about other hunting gear.

NO- I ment who would look for this topic in the optics page. If someone was to ask you a question. They would never look in the topic to find the RV question. I am just saying it should move to a topic it would have more to do with RV's.

So how do they survive without water?
TEAM JESUS replied to tontotom's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have seen Mule Deer dig a hole to get to water. Then get on there front knees to drink it. If I did not come across it and then see them do it, I would never have known. It is dry on the surface but remember, animals can smell water and will find it anywhere. Even below the surface. If you have ever walked the very middle of a steep canyon through all of the very thick stuff. You will find water. Eventually. Might be real small but they can drink. Mnts do hold water deep inside then seep out somewhere? Find those honey holes and you might see the biggest buck in the neighborhood. -
Gamehauler- this topic really needs to be moved to another forum topic. Being in optics and tripods does not fit. Maybe Amanda can move somewhere??? Just a thought.

Customizing a T/C Encore

AZHUNTNUT-Now with this new frame pin. Do you have to have every barrel you have for it drilled out? What is the big bucks for a pin? Price range. What trigger job did you get done and how many pounds. Gamehauler-what have you had done to yours? -
Can of Coke, great for long days of glassing. Tuna packets are the best thing these days. Easy to carry, store and pack out. Lots of protien. Energy bars and sunflower seeds. If its cold I'll do the lunchables. Not this year though.

Used too, was always afraid of being caught off guard and getting a shot but not be able to adjust fast enough or haveing to hold high or low. Now I use a 7 deadly pins.

If you are looking into something she could grow into. Then look to the t/c encores. You can start real small like with 22-250 now. Then when she is older, she can move up to the 300 win mag (joke) 358. Many more calibers to choose from.

I love it Amanda. Also glad you kept Christmas and not using Holiday.

I'll sweeten it up for you. Have you shoot them? Because while both are manageable for recoil, the 300 does kick a bit more but hits harder, drops more at long ranges. I know you said it had a break on it which can be gotten for the 7mm also. Both have a wide range of bullet weights, makes and types. Neither will do you wrong. 7mm is a flater shooting gun with a little less kick. Anything in Arizona will drop from either round. They are both good for Elk also. (CHEVY vs FORD)

Here's an idea for you. Carry a pistol next to your backpack, in the event you are encountered close, you'll have some defense. Most illegals do not want problems and will try to avoid you. Also, remember to use your camoflauge to your advantage. Tell your nephew that if you encounter someone to hide first. Always better to be safe than sorry. Come up with a word to let him know it is safe to come out. I doubt you will have an issue but it is always better to plan. Matalo (speeling might be wrong) is the word you do not want to hear. It is kill him. I am not posting this to scare you. Have a plan and be on guard but do not let it stop you. Also, put a gallon of water out around your camp so the illegals will not break into your trailer to find water. They'll grab and go. Remember, they just do not want to get caught. Be careful about what people tell you when it comes to problems down there, some have agendas.

One more, my heater in my rig is having a hard time starting up. I'll turn it on, the fan will run but it will shut off because the heater?? will not fire up. This weekend it work fine the first time first morning but the next morning I had to turn it on/off 6 times to get it to work. Propane was good. This has happened before.

Hunter is 10yrs old and this is his first big game hunt. He is accompanied by me, his Dad, his Mom and Great, Great Uncle. We are hunting the "EAST SYYDE". (Fri morn) Bugles ringing out before light. Out on the flats. Glassing many elk, bulls & cows. Just hard to get on when you get in the flats. (Fri eve) sitting water & what comes in, 5 bulls all within 30 yards. (Sat morn) Chasing them in the flats again. Then I spotted an elk right where we start every morning glassing at. Got to within 228yrd. She is laying broadside. Set Hunter up on sticks and he says he is not steady, adjust and he is better and he gets his first shot. Missed. Should have proned him. (Sat eve) water and nothing comes in. Nothing. (Sun morn) again, chasing elk in the flats. (Sun noon) Mom and uncle leave. (Sun eve) sitting the same water hole and @ 430, 4 cows and 2 bulls come in with no hesitation. One cow gives Hunter a broadside shot @ 120. Her head down and Hunter shoots. "BOOM"! I see not hit and no elk leaves. She runs to our side abut 60 yards and is now 70yrd from us. I tell him to shoot her again. He is shaking so bad, I have to pull his hammer back on is T/C. "BOOM"! Not one elk moves again. All 5 just hanging around. I am looking thru binos @ the elk he has shot and I see no blood. Now she is moving behind a tree facing us. Another cow steps into an opening and I tell him to shoot that one. "BOOM" this elks drops. We're waiting and the other elk all start to leave except the first one he origianally shot at. She lays down, my heart sank. You can tell she is hurt but is still not showing and blood. I tell Hunter that she must be hit and we have to put her down. Now he is calm and he places the last shot right in her neck. We dress the first elk. Then go back to camp and get the truck. We get both of them loaded. Now I am in a situation, I am making sure that my son know that I was the one who made the decision for him to shoot the other elk. It was not his fault, but we are going to have to make it right. One the way to get cell service. He is asking me what could happen. I told him everything that G&F could do. Get on the phone with Game Theif and they contact the unit manager. After his light interogation, he says to use to dress the other elk out and to take that one in the morning to the Flaff. G&F office. So we get back to camp around 10p & I am dressing the second elk out. 6am comes fast, too fast. We get up eat ans take the first cow to the processer trailers. Then we make the trip to Flagg. When we arrive they ask a few more question about what happened. They take the animal, tell us thank you for calling it in and then send us on our way. I expected atleast a fine, but nothing. While we were there, he is showing us the other mistakes made by other hunters. Small Bulls still in velvet and 2 poachings. I really hesitated on telling anyone about this situation because it is embarassing. Now I am sharing so you'll let your youth read to know it is always better to do what is right. Regardless of the consequences. Accidents do happen.

I'm going to get lucky with one of my questions yet! I'm detemined. Same trailer. When it sits for a while, and I fill up the fresh water tank. The filter after the pump does not allow water to pass. I am having to break the seal on the filter to get the water to go into the rest of the pipes. It does not matter if it is a new filter or not. It seam as if it gets a bad vacuum in it. It also does not matter if any of the faucets are open either. Tomorrow I will ask about muffler bearings. Mine squeak. Bad.

I like Vortex. Killer entrance wound. But I am sick and tired of dealing with mechanicals in the quiver. I am going to try shuttle t's

So what do you think about the gear being made out of aluminum? Or is there different grades of nylon to get a stronger gear made?
-
I know it is to late but ever thought of setting up a very hidden camera up looking at your other camera. Cost may be an issue but you'll be able to post a picture and someone might even know them from this site. Turn the night vision off. Especially if you set up in the same area. You could even make a guille type cover to set on the ground???

I saw those two deer tied to a fence post eirlier in the morning.
