The "yes" side didnt get basically any publicity on it and most voters were more educated as to why they should of voted No instead of yes. They should of worked with the NRA who supported the prop, to get TV commercials out there and such. What a shame, what a blown chance. At least with the elected officials in there now we should be ok, however if the tide turns in a few years we could be in big trouble.

Wow, I was getting into this post and then realized the original poster was banned ! Was it cause of his BearMTN remark or what? I guess I am in left field on this one. Anyways, I got a bug this year and am now really starting to think about trying for the Strip hunts. Fun thread anyways or was, I guess.

Considering how much some spend on an ATV, SXS, Toyhauler, bassboats and diesel crewcabs to pull em, $5k should be doable. You and I are probably not in that income group though. Yes, I would agree to that! Or at least I am less reluctant to get in that much debt(how most toys are afforded) after seeing how easily jobs are lost in a bad economy. I would buy some of those items listed above in your post but they would serve for more than hunting, so alittle more justified, at least in the wife's eyes ! Were as the binoculars would be used primarily for hunting 98 percent of the time. I still may try and get my hands on a cheap pair and see how they look but nothing that will kill me if they suck.

Kowa Highlander for $5000.00 ?? For that price I could.......well... do alot. Hunting is a hobby of mine, not a means of survival. I could never justify spending that much money on optics or even a rifle or alot of other things. Like I said, I just was wondering who knew of any that were maybe underrated for great prices. I'll keep looking around and keep checking here. Thanks for the responses so far.

4 and 5 year old go bobcat hunting
BeardownAZ replied to josh's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Yeah, I think your right. Just gettin them out there is the main thing. I think to much like a typical parent sometimes and worry about snakes, predators gettin to close for comfort, etc, but I guess you cant keep them in a bubble! -

How old? The boys that is! I want to take mine out but think he is still alittle to hyper. He's 5 1/2 right now. -
Exactly what I was thinking! No doubt! What a load of garbage ! Typical government these days. One more reason why we need to vote people out of office who believe in big government!

Yeah...tell my kids that about bothering me when i am sleeping !

Easiest way to avoid problems like this are dont hunt on the rez! There is way to much corruption in there goverment ranks. Too many hands in the piggy bank to do things right. People paying there high fees are why it stays that way. Nothing against the people but the system there is flawed to say the least.

I think the orange helps. I have seen many a hunter along way off cause of there orange. As far as clothes go, I have gotten into the military BDU pants of the desert and tan colors last few years. Cheap, light and tough. If you have been in the military, even better. Uniform allowances paid for hunting clothes way in advance !

Creepy indeed! I would worry that it might freak out and go into protection mode and start thrashing and stomping .

grew up huntin mule deer in 27 and still like to. Great unit, but you can definetly work for what you get.

winchester 150gr Ballistic Silvertips seem to be accurate. This will be my first year having it for actual hunts.

Do any of you have any preference for any specific type of paper topo maps? I am wanting a good one of Unit 1, mainly with lots of the roads, names, numbers, etc. I have a Arizona topo map but the areas arent as detailed cause its a 70 page entire state map. Where to get?? Thanks in advance.

So it seems once the storms subside and the snow is laid out like a carpet they are back out again. I am sure our winters arent as harsh as lot of typical elk states are. I was in Show Low last year in January and while there was lot of snow still there was still alot of areas that animals could eat and still remain high. I'm all Gung Ho now but it is also 75 degrees outside too! Your pics by the way.......... !

General question: If its cold out(and it will be the day after Thanksgiving in the White Mountains) but no snow do the elk still move lower or is it the snow that drives there movements? Never been drawn before until this year so just trying to get an idea what to expect or look out for .

Lookin at the USGS maps right now. Have one and it seems to be good. It has all the Forest Service roads, or least it seems to. I will take a look at the others and see what fits my needs. What I need to get is one of those Garmin GPSMAP 62st's!

Talkin to a few people around, the ones I talked to didnt have major snow issues but said there was some snow a few days into the hunt. 2 of them where hunting high still cause the snow was minimal but they said it was darn cold. They all said that finding elk wasnt to hard but that the wind sucked when it blew. Said most hunters seemed to be cruisiing the roads. Maybe the 5 degree temps had something to do with that ! Right now I have a few strategies and mulitple areas I will try if it snows alot, alittle, or not at all. That time of year and that elevation, being open minded seems to be the way to go based on what I am hearing.

Anyone live in the Round Valley area got any weather advice for the Thanksgiving time of year?? Cold doesnt bother me to much, I think I'd rather deal with it than the 105-110 degree heat. Thanks everyone so far for the info. These forums can be alot of help !

25-06 first centerfire rifle?
BeardownAZ replied to Simple Hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
.243's work just fine as well. And are still used by lots of people into there adult years. I still use mine over my 30-06 or 270 wsm sometimes and I have had this rifle since I was 9! I was taller as a kid to so that may be why i used a full size rifle. But a youth stock can be put on or taken off if need be. I think the 243, 25-06, 270, 308, 7mm-08 are all fine calibers for a young shooter and one they can still use as adults. The hardest kicking, loudest, fast shooting guns are not always the most accurate, which is more important than anything else. If they can handle more gun, go for the bigger caliber. If not, the smaller ones will be just fine. -
Are they pretty detailed, roads, etc?? Also isnt NatGeo topo maps the same one the Sportsmans Warehouse has on the machine that you print yourself?

Unit 1-Late Bull. Its right about the time it starts to snow but with Arizona weather you never know. Temperature wise it will definetly be cold enough, or least it normally is. Now whether or not we get moisture is a different story. I was just curious what there main driving factor was or anyone who has ever hunted that area or lives close by may see what the trend is that time of year up there.
