Teach me: what do you look for?
BeardownAZ replied to JakeL's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Everything mentioned is dead on. To me it's trying to go find a place were others haven't called and educated them more then anything -
Tikkas are really good. I wouldn't anticipate doing much to a Ruger American in terms of adding anything accessory wise. Other then a scope. I'd want it for a cheap priced, accurate gun. As far why some manufacturers aluminum bed, adjustable trigger, and free float there guns while others don't, at a similar price, boggles my mind. I like Rem 700s but think of what I can buy for same price or lil more and get everything I want in another gun.

dude wtf. so much wrong in this i dont know where to begin. Well you buy what you want. Hunting isn't all that goes on in everyone's lives

Swarovskis are great but they do not make game appear that aren't there regardless what anyone hear tells you. As with all things, you have to ask yourself if spending more is worth it or justified based in how much you'll use them. You don't need to spend $1500 or more on one set of binos or any other optics if you are ok with shooting the average deer. It astounds me how many people brag about spending thousands of dollars on a single gun and another few thousand on optics only to shoot little deer. I'd just go back to the Walmart goods and road hunt and use the money elsewhere if that's all you want to shoot. But if you want to really get serious or think you will at some point, buy what makes YOU happy and pay what YOU are willing to live with. I try and find a balance between price and realistic use. It's just like buying a corvette cause your buddies say it's cool, only to realize you should've spent the money on a 4x4 truck you'd use ten times as much, and pay less for too.

Gila Wilderness Hunting

Bumping this post to see if this is still available. This is an awesome idea and service for most DIY hunters who can't get time to scout. I wish someone in Arizona did this( hint, hint) -
Can ship. Paypal too

Almost every time this last week I saw cows, there were deer in the same canyon or hill. Alil odd how often it was occurring. Of course they were all antlerless deer 😣

Have any of you ever hunted in what could be called an unconventional or obvious area? What I mean is, every time i go into the hills, hunting, scouting, just passing time, etc, or just down the highways, I am always looking at areas thinking what the hunting there might be like. But some areas I always wonder about are the close by, probably overlooked zones. Like going through a gate on a dirt road. How many people actually hunt the immediate area instead of going way back in like 99 percent probably do. Or the canyons next to a paved road or highway that everyone zooms past or closer to town then most would think. I've heard of people saying often of seeing deer but big deer/elk too in these areas. Yet never heard of anyone hunting them. It's always everyone trying to get far away from these places, myself included. So anyone try it? I know there are animals in these areas but I believe there are probably quite a few big ones as well. It's always made me wonder. Might try it soon.
-
wouldnt worry to much about that. People are gonna hunt wherever they want. A post on this site is not gonna change that. Exactly. I dont think what I posted is some big secret. If people start doing it, that just means another area that used to get hit will be neglected and more animals will eventually be there, again. Most people are too rigid in there routine too change unless it became the next big thing everyone else was doing.

Well wasn't talking about road hunting but considering how many people kill by the road and how many I've seen, well......😆
-
I killed my buck last year less then a mile from a main hwy. I stayed on a power line rd on the high spot were the main transmission line pole was and just glassed the rolling hills just left of a very used dirt road. A few people went up and down that road as I was watching some deer in the next small canyon over. That canyon was at best 500 yards or so over from that road. Those deer never paid any attention as the vehicles drove by. Made me rethink were deer will be. And this was the fifth day of the hunt.

Yeah Bighorn sheep are so normal by town not to far from hear no one is surprised or even that thrilled. No one even looks at them as game animals(almost) really they are so common. If deer where seen like that people would be getting excited.

Finally a buck bigger than the boiling pot
BeardownAZ replied to hoghntr's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Nice buck. 400 yards is still a long shot. Shooting a 1000 yards with a custom rifle and a space telescope attached to it, isn't impressive anymore when the equipment takes all the skill and work out of it. . Doing it the way you did is more impressive. Good Job! -
I've been interested in these too. Good, interesting info. Name a gas truck that does get good mileage hauling, none that I'm aware of. And they usually struggle bad too going up any hills. It sounds like the perfect compromise between gas and diesel. Especially if you haul infrequently, which most hunters do.

Don't under stand the whole shooting it just to leave it. If your gonna shoot it illegally, at least do it cause your after the meat. Not saying it's right but at least take it.
