Are you neck sizing the brass? If so, it may be time to full length resize.
-
Yep, almost all the photos of that bull are from the front, and the way the 5th on his right side twists in it is deceiving. That bull is huge everywhere. In real life it is more impressive, especially the fronts. Anyone know the gross score? 442" is net score.

I'm not sure why you think its a hassle. Two buckles and the binos are free from the harness, then right onto the tripod. I have the outdoorsman tripod adapter so that step is quick too. Are you wanting to leave your tripod adapter attached to the binos?
-
Doesn't really matter, both will work. Vias is typically more available, Verde is often on backorder.

Like some others have said, I'd consider some 12 power binos. That being said, if you are choosing between 10x42 slc hd and el without the range I would go with the slc. The slc hd are amazing glass and I don't think the price jump up to the el is worth it. I have 10x42 el and I feel like the slc are a little more rigid construction. I have had to send my el in for service multiple times. Swaro always fixes them but I'd rather not have to send them in at all.

Congrats on the double! If you get him mounted you should have the taxidermist include that tine stuck in his neck.

One thing you are going to have to do is commit to only hunt him. You'll have to pass on all his buddies, however nice they may be. If January doesn't work out, make the same commitment for early archery and then Rifle in the fall. And scout, scout, scout. Answer all the questions you have about where he goes prior to hunting him. Lastly, just because it's thick, don't be afraid to glass. Sweet buck by the way!

Congrats Beck crew! Couple stud bulls you got there.

Like azsugarbear said the bergers have had problems getting adequate penetration at short range (when velocity is still high). Penetration on a bull elk is a must. I'd stay away from the bergers. Accubonds are good all around bullets.

To clear things up a little, on a SFP scope your zero will not be different on different zooms. The center of the cross hairs doesn't change. What changes at different zooms are the other features such as mil dots, moa ticks, yardage ticks that some people with FFP scopes use to estimate range and then hold for elevation/windage/lead. If you don't plan on doing those then a SFP is better. One con of the FFP scopes is that since the reticle changes sizes, in low light conditions it can be so fine it is hard to see. This is why illuminated reticle were introduced. In my opinion, the large majority of hunters would be better served with SFP scopes.

Wow, another mind blowing buck. Age, genetics, feed, everything has to be perfect for a buck to get that big. I'll guess unit 27.

Bullets that just won't shoot well?
kwp replied to bustedknuckleinc's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Per the hornady book, for a 140 grain bullet and H4350, starting load is 38.1 gr and max is 40.9. Start low and work your way up. -

+1. There is a good chance you are over the max charge. -

Giant Archery Arizona Coues Buck by Hunter James Dudley
kwp replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Amazing buck, congrats. I'm curious how that left side will be officially scored. I think his left side technically does not have a G3 since the point that would be his G3 comes off at the base of his G2 it would be scored as a non typical point. Not that it really matters, huge buck however it is scored. -

I bet that the first year you only get a 1 day hunt, 2nd year a 2 day hunt, etc until you build up to a whole hunt. If you draw after 1 year and get a 1 day guided hunt they will sell you the rest of the hunt at full price. Just my guess, I know nothing about this but do know that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

question... shooting targets versus animals
kwp replied to naturegirl's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Don't forget about your stance. When you practice you turn your feet so they are pointing 90deg from the target. Your upper body follows your lower body and mechanics are sound. When you are moving in on an animal you are likely facing it. It can be very easy to forget about your stance and rotate your upper body without your lower body. When you shoot your upper body twists back into alignment with your lower body, impacting your follow thru. If you are a right hand shooter this will cause you to miss left. -
The outdoorsmans is better than the swaro in so many ways. It is intended to swivel to allow user adjustment but it should not be a loose swivel. If it is then you must not be getting the knob tight. The security of knowing my binos won't fall off is also very important. I too often carry my binos attached to the tripod and would never do this with a swaro adapter.

Both my archery bulls have been mid-day. One early afternoon and last year's bull was very late morning.

As far as the monster coues that was just taken, I think the story will show it is more of a DIY / family hunt than a hired guide.

Don't complain too much or game and fish might increase the tags even more!

Wow, lots of love being thrown around. You two need to get a room. I prefer game bags, and if you get the better quality ones they can be washed and reused just like a pillowcase.

I'll try further west, Ash Creek.
