Saw the first quail hatchlings of the year yesterday. Seems really early. Maybe they'll have an extra hatch this year.

It won't be today, the people in charge of the draw are at the nearest sports bar watching basketball.

I think Devin covered it pretty well. In order to be a successful guide, you need to be a highly successful hunter. When the moment of truth happens, your client will be relying on you to tell them what to do. Only experience can help you then, not some two week school.

They've been highly active around my house too. Been having to chase them out of my truck so they don't nest in there.

I've used duracoat on a synthetic stalk and it has held up great.

Like others have said, keep at it. Be patient in your stalk and let him make the mistake.

Congrats again bro. That was a fun and COLD hunt. Probably the best shot I've ever seen too!

who has the Kuiu Superdown?.....update: please read my reply, 5 posts down
kwp replied to Viper's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I have the hooded superdown. When pulling it out of a compressed position I can see light through it but it seems to fluff up pretty quick and the down feathers fill up the gaps. I just got home from my brother's late elk hunt where morning temps were in the teens or low 20s with 20+ mph winds. I wore 2 base layers, the superdown jacket, and a thin rain jacket over top. My upper body was comfortable, wish I could say the same for my feet. Remember kuius clothing is a layering system. Base layer, insulation, and outer shell. Superdown is an insulation layer so it is meant to have an outer shell over it to protect from wind/rain. My only complaint is that it tears easily but that is another reason to use an outer shell. -
That's good info but still makes me question the quality of the scope if a slight over torque can cause it to track improperly.

Seen one near hulsey lake last year

Based on your comment about lateral color fringing I'm guessing you were looking through the previous model of slc. The newer slc hd are a significant upgrade over the old.

This is really a simple trigonometry problem. Assuming no wind and no spin drift, the ballistics come out of the equation. If the rifle is canted but scope is plum, the result is that the vertical axis of the bore is slightly left or right of the vertical axis of the scope. Let's say you have a scope height of 2" and rifle cant of 3 deg. Trig calcs the bore axis being 0.105" off the scope axis. Now let's say you sight in at 200 yards. To do so you would have to adjust the reticle to account for this slight offset. With a 200 yard zero, the look angle would be 0.000836 deg off the flight of the bullet (trig again). If you project this look angle out to 1000 yards the POI would be 0.4" off of center. (Smaller than a scope can adjust for and not even noticeable when compared to group sizes at that range). Obviously a greater cant will magnify this number. The takeaway here, get your rifle as close to plum as you can and then mount your scope plum and you'll be good to go.

Congrats Shane! Amazing buck.

Wow, amazing buck Devin. You are a monster coues magnet!

I've heard of this problem on multiple occasions. Most people say you should dial too far and then come back to it like titanium said.

I use a Nexus 7 tablet with an SD adapter. There are two different apps available to use with the adapter, a viewer and a downloader.

Great buck and awesome story. Sounds like a memorable adventure.

My uncle had a utv stolen in Queen Creek and the next day he went for a drive and found it on the SanTan Reservation.

I think the silver is winning the battle with the brown.

Here's a pic of how I snap the vertical buckles through the loop on top of the case.

Have you tried buckling the two buckles together? One is male and one female so this can be done.
