Who takes video of animals?
kwp replied to BASS's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
great topic I don't have one but would like to someday get one. There have been so many times that I have said to myself, "I wish I would have had a video cam for that" JACK was your video at 475 yards pretty clear? How far out is everybody else able to video and still be clear? Let us know how that set up works Desertbull. Sounds like a great idea -
I, like TAM, use one of the ones that hooks to your belt and absolutely love it. They are very inexpensive and help a ton when you are walking a lot. I would definitely recommend one. Bow holster at Cabelas

Yeah and it was a big bear. When I first heard about it I figured that it was just a young bear that was searching for it's own home territory and wandered into town like most of the ones you hear about, but when I saw the video on TV it was obviously a BIG full grown male.

Two weekends ago I went for a half day shed hunt and found six sheds, two of which were fresh. One of the fresh ones as well as one of the old ones was from the same buck that my brother and I already had two of his sheds Check out page 11 for another pic of the one match that we have as well as the scores We've seen this buck a few times and my brother put a stalk on him with his bow but we haven't been able to find him during rifle season. Hopefully this year will be different.

I haven't gotten any trail cam pics of him yet but I am going to try towards the end of the summer, beginning of fall once it cools off a little. Last fall we had two cameras out, one on a salt lick and one on what I thought was the nearest water. This last march we found a different spring that is a little closer to where we think he hangs out (further from any roads) so I am going to try to get some photos of him there

Thanks guys As you can see his last shed is a little smaller than the year before but I am just hoping he had a bad growth year and isn't actually regressing. Also, towards the end of the main beam there is a little bit of a funky twist in the beam so I wonder if maybe he injured it while in velvet. I'll have to find the other side so I can have a better idea. I'm hopin he'll really explode this year like TREESTANDMAN said. My first three hunt choices are in there and I am praying for a December tag

This fish even made Sportscenter this morning. They had some video of it swimming around in it's new aquarium.

Did you guys find any other sheds while you were out?

Has anybody seen the "WORLD RECORD COUES WHITETAIL" video that they refer to on Dan King's website? I love how they have live photos of that beast with the kill shots. I couldn't imagine seeing a buck like that in the wild.

Two weeks ago I was passing through Hanagan Meadow and you could barely see the top of the sign for the Reno Lookout Road. The pile from the snow plows was at least 7 feet tall and there was probably over 4 feet of actual snow. It's gonna be a while till the roads up there open

172 in. wow that's big lets see some pics

lets see some pics. I've got the itch. Can't wait till I get a chance to go

Anybody find any sheds this past weekend or are they all still packin?

LOL I guess I kinda set myself up for that one. Yeah I may be too serious for somebody my age but that's just me. I never really was into the rowdy party scene but I still know how to have a good time. My addiction is hunting. Probably why I spend way too much time on this website. Thanks for the male order bride offer but I already have a girlfriend, and she's a hottie

I'm in college and on my spring break I am going camping/ antler hunting for four or five days and I don't see anything wrong with it. The way that I see it is that the elk only shed their antlers once a year and spring break happens to be at a pretty good time. Also, I won't always be young and stupid, and young and stupid translates into hiking up and down the biggest mountains and biggest canyons until either the soles of my boots or the soles of my feet fall off which usually means finding more sheds. I know that I will have just as much fun as all the kids doing the "normal" college spring break. Plus I am sure that I will spend a lot less money (hopefully even make a little) and not have to recover from the worlds worst hangover.

How do i set up my game cam
kwp replied to creed_az_88's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
No the bear picture is not that recent. It was from last August. The camera that I have is one of the cheap $60 ones from Wal-Mart and so far it has worked great. My brother also has one and has never had a problem with it. I have never used one of the more expensive ones so I couldn't tell you how they compare. -

Here are a couple of photos off of my cam over a salt lick. The cam is on a scronny little mesquite tree but it was the only way for it to face north and it ended up working. This is the first time I am posting pics in the forum so hopefully it works -

Wow, that is sweet. Looks like it is on a salt lick in a saddle, am I right? Also is that another camera on the adjacent tree? -
I have one of the cheaper releases that I got for Christmas and today it started to prematurely release. Did it three times in a row in the middle of my draw. Managed to bloody my nose so I've decided I better get a new higher end one. So what brand and model are you guys and gals shooting and what are their pros and cons? Thanks

First of all, not just any rookie can shoot a trophy coues buck out of a stand. You still need to be good at what you are doing especially with coues. A couple of weeks ago I stalked up on a 100-105" coues buck. Glassed him up at about five hundred yards and watched him bed. Got the wind right and headed for him. Once I was within 200 yards I took my boots off and went really slow. 2 to 2 and a half hours later I found him still bedded in the same place. I snuck a little closer and ranged him at 28 yards. While putting the rangefinder back in the case it made a slight click and the buck stood up and stared right at me. I held as still as I could and we had a staredown for what seemed like forever. My brother was watching the whole thing from our original glassing location and said that it was about 10 minutes. Finally the buck turned his head to look at a doe behind him and I drew back. I let the arrow fly and immediately heard the click of it nicking an ocotillo that was in front of me. That was the biggest rush in my life even though it finished in a disappointing manner. Obviously the wind is an absolute must but I also think that taking off my boots helped a ton. My feet were sore and I was pulling thorns out of them for the next few days but you are able to be so much quieter without your boots. Unless you are running out of daylight you also need to go very slow. Finally, you need god to be on your side. A little good or bad luck will change everything.

Thanks for all the replies everybody, sounds like most people (except GMM) like scotts. What's the story GMM. I have looked at the scotts mongoose and little bitty goose and will probably choose between one of them. Those of you shooting the little bitty goose, have you had any problems with it pulling heavier weights? Jamaro, I have also heard that the strap is more consistent than the velcro so I'll probably go with the strap.

Just last week there was something on the news here in Tucson about the archery hunter killed in 34a. There was a camp not to far from his that was apparently abandoned around the time of the murder (tent, sleeping bags, hiking boots, and a lot of other stuff that people wouldn't normally leave behind). They think that there is some kind of link with the crime so they showed a video of the campsite and a lot of the abandoned eqiupment to see if anyone in the public would recognize anything. Hopefully they can link some of the stuff to the store that it was bought at or something. I think that other than that their case has pretty much gone cold.

Oh ya, what kinds of straps do you use, velcro or buckle.
