    Questions on Binocular

I have a pair and I would say that I like them. They are huge and a pain to carry around but the 20 power is very nice. I can understand why people say that the clarity sucks in them, but I would argue that the clarity is actually very good just that they are very difficult to focus. Most people who take a quick look through them don't like them because they aren't focused. I had a little trouble at first but now it is very easy for me to find that point where they are crisp and clear. I would say that for the mid-low priced high powered bino that they are very good but I would save your money for the 15x56 swaros. I will eventually replace mine with those. I bought my 20s right after I started college and knew that there was no way that I could afford the swaros until I was well out of college. Good luck with whatever binos you choose.

  5. One flaw in that bill is that it repeatedly states, "hunting done exclusively on public lands". I don't know of any unit in AZ that doesn't have at least some private land that if you knew the owner you may be able to hunt. Seems like even if the bill passes that a state could still charge whatever they wanted since hunting is not done "exclusively" on public lands.

  7. I'm gonna go with azhuntnut on this one 360ish. A bull has to have everything to reach 390-400 and I don't think the fronts on this bull quite have it. Still a great bull though.

  9. I have the exact same pack and love it! I am 6' and have it set at the tallest setting so I can see how it would be difficult for someone who is 6'8" but there is plenty of room for it to be adjusted for someone shorter If you look at eberlestock's website they advertise different shoulder straps for taller people, have you looked into those?

  11. I may get crucified for the title of the topic and what I am going to say but right now I am more frustrated with the hunting public than the game and fish! There weren't even 15 people at the game and fish meeting last night in Tucson. Come on people, I know that there are a lot more than 15 hunters in Tucson who are concerned with the direction of the department. I, like everyone else on here am frustrated because I feel like the department isn't really listening to what we have to say, but that is no reason to give up. They may have just been blowing smoke up my a$$ last night but I actually feel like they are starting to consider what we have to say regarding hunt quality. I hope that a lot more people show up to the rest of the meetings because with that few, the department has no reason to consider the voice of such a small crowd. It is pretty sad that we can get discussions on this topic that go on for pages and pages yet hardly anybody shows up to the meetings. I say, if you are not willing to go say what you have to say to the departments face, then quit bitchin!!! What have the numbers at the other meetings been like?

    Summer sucks

Well Devin I never figured you St. Johns boys were the brightest (j/k) but you hit that one right on the head. Plenty to do out there other than big game and I wish that g&f would promote many of the other hunting OPPORTUNITIES that this state has to offer. I figure most big game hunters started hunting small game when they were young and probably had the times of their life. Besides, the best practice that you can get for coues is trying to glass up jack rabbits at 200+ yards and then whack em.
  14. The big thing regarding S AZ coues hunts that caught me off guard even though I had already read the hunt guidelines was the possibility of 4 general rifle coues hunts. I guess I assumed that the fourth one shown in the guidelines is the youth hunt that typically overlaps the Nov hunt but they clearly said that this is an additional general hunt. They said that the december hunt would not change at all and that there would not be an increase in the total number of tags but that the tags that are currently allocated to the two earlier hunts would be spread out over three hunts. This is being considered due to the complaint of overcrowding (definite issue in my eyes) during the two early hunts. I would of rather them just decrease tags but that would go against their idea of hunter opportunity. There wasn't much said either for or against this because I think that it caught most of us off guard and we didn't have a chance to think about what it would mean. The other discussion regarding coues was the alternative management units and why these units were selected. The two major reasons were existing quality (more older age class bucks already) and access. They said that 30b was chosen strictly because of access and they felt that an increase in tags would cause to many conflicts regarding access. 31 was chosen as it is considered a quality unit already and 36c was a combination of the two. The other units were not really discussed. There were a couple people that were quite confused regarding the wording of the harvest objective which caused them to oppose the alternative management idea but most were for the idea and stated that they would like to see more units included in the plan. What does everyone think of these two topics? Unfortunately Turkey Hunting took up a significant amount of time taking away from elk and deer

    Please help...

I've always thought that it was like you said 111 with those 2nd choice applicants who got drawn for their 1st choice being taken out becuase they are no longer a part of the sample. This is how I think it happened for 36C carp that JACK mentioned. 100 tags 405 1st and 2nd choice applicants of the original 405, 161 were 2nd choice applicants that got drawn for their 1st choice bringing the net number of 1st and 2nd choice applicants to 244 100 tags / 244 applicants = 41% this is all speculation and I have no idea how G&F actually comes up with their number. This is the way that seems logical to me so I am sure that G&F does something else that isn't logical

    Hillary Clinton

I got this in an email today Subject: Dogs Have you ever heard that a dog "knows" when an earthquake is about to hit? Have you ever heard that a dog can "sense" when a tornado is stirring up, even twenty miles away? Do you remember hearing that, before the December tsunami struck Southeast Asia , dogs started running frantically away from the seashore, at breakneck speed? I'm a firm believer that animals and especially dogs have keen insights into the Truth. And you can't tell me that dogs can't sense a potentially terrible disaster well in advance. Simply said, a good ol' hound dog just KNOWS when something isn't right . . . when impending doom is upon us . . .

    New issue

So will they ban conservation groups from putting in water catchments that may help a large number of animals survive because a few hunters may sit these catchments and actually be successful and have a 'quality' hunt.
  19. I am also in agreement with the above phrase and I understand the Deptartments stance that you will not be able to recruit or retain hunters who do not have the opportunity to hunt on a regular basis but I question how you will be able to retain a young hunter who has the opportunity to go deer hunting every year but sees more hunters than they do deer and when they do see a buck it is never a mature buck. I feel that unless something changes this situation will be a reality in the near future (practically already is with the number of tags for the early whitetail hunts). I know that when I feel that I no longer have a reasonable opportunity to hunt mature bucks that I will go elsewhere to find this opportunity even if it means that that opportunity is much less often

    Buck to Doe Ratio

I was wondering the same thing too. I guess great minds think alike You would also think that they would have to consider overcrowding for this unit. I think that there are quite a few things that contribute to the overcrowding of a few key locations in 33 including the close proximity to a major metro area as well as only a couple of forest roads providing limited access to a small percentage of the total area in the unit. Those first two hunts are crazy with the number of people out in the woods, no way they should be increasing tags. Definately a case of increasing hunter opportunity ($$$$$) with no regards to biological guidelines

    Arizona Elk Society Banquet

Those of you who were there, how do you recall the sale of the auction tag? I heard that after 85k was bid the auctioneer said "do I hear 90k (pause for no more than a couple of seconds)... SOLD!!!" No, going once, going twice, then SOLD, just SOLD. I also heard that there was quite an uproar and it got a little ugly and that there were multiple bidders willing to go significantly higher, and hadn't even started bidding. This is all stuff that I heard from a friend of a friend of a guy that knows somebody that might be related to somebody that..... (you guys get the point and know how rumors can grow). Like COOSEFAN said, AZ wildlife may have lost out on a big chunk of change which is unfortunate. I just hope that there wasn't any foul play involved, but when you start talking that much money I wouldn't doubt anything. So you guys that were there, how'd it play out?
