Draw for Archery Deer from now on....

How am I gonna be the demise of hunting??? I agree with you, I just didn't think it was cool to bash those guys cuz they didn't agree with you. I'm done! Back to the topic. I really hope that G&F isn't what my gut is telling me they are, I truly hope that they aren't just trying to pay for that huge new building on Carefree hwy. In a way I think we live a sheltered life here on CouesWhitetail.com. For the most part we all agree. I don't think we really know what the average non-diehard hunters really think. Donnie -

There is absolutely no favoritism..........you know exactly why I deleted your post! I have been deleting the bad words up to that point but you took it too far. I would appreciate it if everyone would be a little more careful in their wording, and if not.... keep it private, or it will get deleted! Thanks, JIM> Sorry Jim, I went too far with my words. USERNAME, I just don't see how its conctructive to bash others because their opinion is different than yours. Its very easy to sit behind your keyboard and talk smack but I promise you that you wouldn't say those things to someones face. Sure you'll say you would but we all know the truth. You can't even sign your posts with your real first name. I'd be willing to bet you have more than one login name here and when you really want to stir things up you put on your superhero cape and underware for a helmet and log in as.... "USERNAME!!!!" Its a bird.... its a plane.... NO ITS A FLYING BOOGER... ITS "USERNAME"!!!! I KILL ME!!! LMAO Listen man, none of us like whats going on and those that do... really feel its for the benefit of the animals. We may not agree with them but we're all in for the same reason... cuz we love it. We all love hunting, we all love the outdoors, and we ALL want to see more animals out there. So we don't all agree on how to get there, oh well. I think we should take all this energy into the next big "proposal" they throw at us and do what we can to make a difference. Donnie P.S. When you show for the next commission meeting, wear your "USERNAME" superhero outfit and show those commissioners whos boss!!! -
AWSOME buck!!! BIG congrats! Donnie

First Bow Kill for the Dentman

Thanks Griz! We rough scored him at 126". I thought he'd do a little better but like I said before, I don't give a rip with this deer, he's my new favorite. Donnie -
Well, I finally did it. I've been bowhunting for 5 years now and finally connected. I have a unit 21 Oct. WT tag that will join the rest of my unfilled tags on the wall in the garage. I shot this guy at 40 yards shooting up a steep incline. No long stalk story, I spotted him feeding and snuck in and shot. I actually got very lucky on the shot. When I ranged him he was at 44 yds, I had to sneak in another 3 yards from where I ranged him to make the shot, well instead of aiming for 35 I aimed for 40. I'm not sure what I did but I ended up shooting left and with the shot being high as well the arrow nailed him right in the neck and broke it. Of course he dropped right in his tracks and saved me from tracking him all over the country. As you can imagine I'm pretty thrilled, I'm not gonna mind not making the 21 hunt at all. Here's a pic with me and my new wall decoration (He's my first, of course I'm gonna mount him) The other pic is of my future hunting buddy, she's a year and a half old.

Also, USERNAME! Although I don't like the new draw any more than you, you're pretty chicken---- to come running your jib when nobody really knows who you are. Be a man and use your real name if you're gonna call people out! Donnie -

"I don't shoot doves, because I think they taste like poo, but I don't tell others not to." LMAO, DesertBull you are one funny character! I don't know how to feel about it. I hate it for the fact that its just another limit on the amout of time we can spend doing what we love. On the other hand, I am of the opinion that they DO need a draw on at least the Kiabab, if not a couple more. I also think there are more constructive and creative management schemes that would work better but we all know our commission is not known for that. The fact is... it sucks! But, its also a done deal, so now its time to sit down and figure out a way to make it work to your advantage. Donnie -

From what I heard they are only going to a draw in a select few units. Unless they changed it again. These are the numbers I heard recently. These are projected numbers. These are the draw units: 1 - 200 tags 3A/3C - 150 tags 3B - 75 tags 7 - 500 tags 12A - 1850 tags 13A - 120 tags 13B - 120 tags January 2 week season instated: units 4AB, 8 & 9 .... not sure which 2 weeks December season cancelled: units 17A, 20A, 22, 23, 35A, 37A & 42. All the archery deer hunters that draw a permit for 12A, 13A & 13B can also buy over the counter buffalo and elk tags like the rifle hunters can. Now when they say Dec, cancelled they mean no Dec. hunt but open all of Jan. -

Yeah, I'd love to top him in Jan. I'm planning on taking 5 days sometime in the beginning of Jan and doing a hunt somewhere. I've got a few places in mind. Oh I think I forgot to mention that I got that guy in 20a. I won't say exactly where but it wasn't around Lynx Lake or on Big Bug mesa. He's the biggest buck I've personally seen in there in a few years. Of course I've never had much luck finding big muleys either. I passed on 4 smaller bucks last weekend the largest of which was a pretty big forkie. (I have nothing against shooting spikes and forkies, I just choose not to do it myself). I shot mine on Sunday morning and ended up taking my brother-in-law to a good area I know of on Monday afternoon. We saw a good little 4 point who should be a really good buck next year if he makes it. My buddy's coming over tonight to put the tape on my buck. More for sh!ts and giggles than anything. I really could care less what he scores. Anyone wanna guess what he'll score??? Donnie -

Thanks everyone for the congrats. I gotta admit, I couldn't wait to get home and show this guy off. Not for the size of his rack, he's not huge and its not about that, its because I've been coming here for almost 3 years and have seen alot of nice bucks get posted and I've felt how excited I get for other guys success... but to finally, finally get to post one myself, ahhhh... just feels good. I now know what it feels like to score with a bow, no other feeling like it. Now if you'll excuse me I have a cloud to ride. lol Thanks again guys, you're a great bunch. Donnie -
Great buck, your buddy should be very proud! Donnie

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pumped. If you look real close you can see where I hit him in the neck and also take a look at the bridge of his nose, he was a fighter. Actually I'm very glad you mentioned that. I wasn't sure if I could or not due to the fact that I already filled my quota for the year. Heck yeah, if I can sure I will. Donnie -
Dove hunt turns into archery deer hunt!
donniedent replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Congrats on the buck. I always liked venison tons more than dove meat. lol. I scored this weekend too. I'll post the pics here in a minute. Donnie -
The thing I love to hear is that there are still good deer below the ditch. Everytime I hear about or see big bucks that aren't on the Kiabab I get a charge out of it. I'm not gonna offer to help you with your problem, see if you can find some youth hunters to get after them. Donnie

I thought about inventing rump targets for doe's, instead of darting them and taking vitals we can dart them and paint targets on their rumps. Give these poor misguided bucks something to aim at. Yeah this thread has officially reached "dead horse status". I think we should all make the best of this year and just be happy with what we've got. Next year, 12A archery tag 3rd choice. Donnie -

Well, the nice thing is, if you have an open mind and are willing to listen, forums like this can really bring some clarity to sometimes cloudy subjects. Above all, sometimes I wish G&F would be a little clearer as to their intentions. I think that sometimes they fail to provide all the colateral effects of their decisions. I do believe if they tried a little harder to help the hunters understand the overall picture, they would recieve much more support from alot of guys (like me) that just want to understand "The Big Picture". I understand they have a tough job, balancing wildlife management with the desires of hunters, but it seems they'd want our full support and a full explanation and an overview of all the impacts of thier decisions might go a long way with us regular Joes. Shoot its taken me almost 5 pages on this forum and alot of typing to come even close to understanding why they are doing what they are doing. Just thoght I'd throw that in. Donnie -
I am absolutly speechless.... Donnie

Survey: Hunting Archery and Rifle Seasons
donniedent replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
What if G&F did this: You draw a permit for unit x. You can hunt the early hunt with a bow, if you don't tag out you come back for the rifle hunt and then if you don't tag out with a rifle, you come back with a bow for the rut hunt. (If its a unit that can handle a rut hunt) Or they have a completely seprate tag you have to draw for the rut hunt and only offer maybe 50 tags but you can hunt with a rifle. Basically you get one tag. What do you guys think about that and why???? Trivia Question: Which state already does it this way??? -

Now that I've heard more than a couple sentences from cmc I understand what he's saying. I'm gonna play devils advocate here: Who are the guys that are actually gonna put in for an archery draw? Hardcore guys. What kind of deer are the hardcore guys after? Tropheys. What kind of deer are the average Joes shooting? Anything. Whats gonna happen to the smaller bucks in those units that aren't hunted as hard? Their gonna have a chance to get bigger. Whats gonna happen to those units after about 5 years of this? They will have a larger buck population with an older average age class of bucks. You know if they tweeked this a little and possibly added point restrictions as well as the draw and let guys have a liberal season it may end up working out pretty well for the deer. hmmmm. Donnie
