BackCountry Any chance you want to go over to 36A and so some shed hunting. You keep the Sheds I will find the buck!

i figured you would say that. Truth is its one of those Yukon/Sriba Russian jobs. Not really that great but I got used to it. My motivation is I only have the two eyes and the binos are pretty strong. I guess I'm just gonna carry one more piece in the pack.

I got the feeling you know the whole area. Is there any way for me to get away from people in 36a. thinking about staying up on stevens mtn or gunsight thanks

here's a pickle I need help with. HAve used a 20x20-50 spotting scope for a while. Just acquired a pair of 15 x 70 binos with tripod . Think I should keep the scope I'm not sure

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A
gnoto replied to BACKCOUNTRY's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Not to add fuel to the fire, but illegal or not what they did was illegal. Thsi unfortunate tragedy allows you to consider again how safe we are. The odds are he was killed by somebody he knew or had a previous encounter with. Regardless of who did it we all need accept it happened in our own backyard. Take some timeto make sure you are prepared and remember this is no thte Old West but is surely is still the wild west and any man alone in the Southern Territory of Arizona need heed that reality. Maybe its time to remember its of value to glass more then just the Coues. If it moves I note it. Check you camp from a distance before returning. Check your vehicle before returning. Take a friend. I'll be in 36a the week of 11/12. If your not comfortable being there alone drop me a line your welcome in my camp. -
for me at least it all changed when I realized trees do not generally grow horizontally(sp) and for sure if they do they are limbs not trunks. Thats the secret. Here and in the thick stuff I grew up in the North East. Other suggestion is to stop the constant glassing you have no idea how much eye strain plays especially at 400yds. Give yourself 5 to 10 minutes at a time when you rest. i have found at times just closing my eyes for 10 minutes(not sleeping)allows me to regain much greater focus. I prefer a 20-50x50 spotting scope and i change eyes every 15 minutes. allows me to feel like I am missing nothing. Lastly. just becasue you see a small buck does not mean he is the only one in the area. I ahve found at least with Coues if you look for a minute there is usually a alarger buck nearby. Your often picking out the scout I know its hard to believe but you are

we are figuring there will be a lot of traffic. I understand you have'nt but Can you get all the way up to gunsight mt from McGee ranch way. and have you ever come in from the north or west

Not sure how I ended up with 36a for Nov. Probably screwedup the application, but thats what I have. Never been on 36A usually hunt 36 b Trying to figure out where to go. I can take Mt Road south and work in from there or McGee Ranch from the East and go in from there. Not sure about fences or roads in the unit. Is it generally accessable via road up into the 4000 ft range. I have a big high 4x4

I figured the over population would keep me away from the Cerro's and i would stick to Stevens/GunPoint. Its a little tougher to get up there. But not for the Ghosts and me!
-
how about I go up there a week early and cut some trees to block the roads! oh yea no trees.

Griz Just wondering since its seems pretty easy to get ther efrom Arivaca how crowded doe sit get. Not always so bad if I'm sitting and Glassing they are working for me.

Kirk I do not want you in a jam with the wife so I understand. My first chocie is usually 36 B knowing the area well. I am verry happy about drawing 36A, but thought I had it as second choice. I figured I would get my first choice 36b Good mistake i got my first chocie 36 a. Bull Cerro Colorados I will spend at least 2 days there. Gonna try to get up by Gunsight maybe Stevens MTS. I hope to be able to drive in from the North on Sierrita Mtn rd then around to the SouthEast past Diamond Bar. I Hope to get a few scounts in between now and then. Thanks GN

Dan Wesson Model 15 End of story. I ahve a variety of handguns. The most versatile weapon I have ever owned. 1. Can use barrel from 2"to 10" and they are readily available for cheap. 2. Double Action. Less to think about and you can always use it like a single action. 3. As previously mentioned common and multiple ammo at good cost. 4. The most accurate and affordable weapon you can buy in my opinion. to sum it up. easy to carry, extremely accurate, convertable, cheap gunbroker.com is a good place to scout prices If you want new and affordable Ruger is my choice. I would then go .41 mag and learn to use it so you can join us fo rthe HAM hunt in Jan.

get a wesson model 15. if your going to get a .357 used for cheap.. Multiple barrel opotions and you can drive nails. Besides when its about self defense screw the single action. I love my Ruger .41 Blackhawk but if its about how fast I can defend my self against a predator

I appreciate the advise. I ahve scouted the Sierrita range and am convinced this is the best place. I am a bit concerned about how many hunters will be in the area. One reason I am looking to get upa bit higher in the range. Amy advise on entering from the MCGee Ranch road side. I am hoping I can get pretty far back and up to 4000 ft. To most avoid others would you suggest entering Sierrita range from the Sierrita MT road rt 86 or MC Gee Ranch or come in from the south off Arivaca Rd. Thanks for the help my name is George. I have a brown 89 f150. I hope to get in the night before the hunt and see what all those Bud Light guys kick up.
