Hey FC I remember where that is now. East of Arivaca Lake. My uncle is going to be down that way actually. Probably off Ruby Road somewhere. WE might be able to get you up to town. I'll check with him later today. Good area by the way.

I have always been able to get within a few inches with a bore sight. I suggest a little trick i learned . Get one of those cheap laser pointers Circle K and put it in the magazine. I have even taped it into brass just to make sure it was fit strait. I have found it saves a lot of time.

The company is in Southern California. I did some investigation and here is the story. They thought the name sounded Eastern European! The glass is made in China. Two distinct manufcaturing liens from what I learned. one is very good the other sucks. Generally the better stuff is found in the big glasses. Example. I picked up a a pair of Barska 15x70's froma friend while he was using my Zeiss NVA's. The glasses were really sharp and I could not believe he paid $49 for them with the mini pod and mount. I took them to a trusted friend one of the best in the Bino business. Drop me a line if you need yoru glass fixed. Cheap fast and the best you will ever find. He took a look at these cheap glasses and confirme dthey were very good. His suggestion and comments. Barska glasses the larger stuff is generally good to very good expecially for the price. His suggestion was if you can pick up something for cheap even brand new take it to a glass man and he will nmake the minor generally subtle changes that make the glasses what they really are. OR buy a good lod scope and take it to a guy liek mine and for $50 or less that great scope will be like new again.

NEW RIFLE PURCHASE FOR NOV HUNT ADVIDE
gnoto replied to gnoto's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I picked up a Savage Model 110 with Simmons Scope. Two boxes of Federal 130 grain. Headed out to Ben Avery comitted to homing this thing in at 200 yds before I left. Started at 50 yards two shots a bit high and right. One adjustment and three in the center circle within 1". Took it to 100 yards was still a bit high after the first group of 3. Made a few adjust ments and after two more 3 shot groups and was well within 1". Took it all the way out to 200 since there was no 150 yd stand I could find. Shot the first 5 shot pattern and was a bit high not just the sight I was just not lined up well with the scope and needed to adjust the sight to 8x. Still a bit high. One more adjustment and I hit 5 of 5 within the 10 and 2 of 5 in the X. I am quite suprised how well this weapon shoots. It cost me $200 Never shot a Savage or a .270 before, but I am quite happy with it and hope to recover enough by early next week to shoot a few more before I hit the hills. I must say I am completely blind beyond 200 yards so I am going to try to find the co's as quickly as I can on 130 grain. I still have my trusty 30-30 but I think this Savage is a keeper. As for my shoulder I'm a pretty big guy and good shape but after 25 or so rounds my shoulder is acking! -
I have decided I need a new firestick for the November hunt. I am a cheap bastard to put it lightly. I guess I have to spend a few bucks but I will do it grudgenly(not sure how the heck you spell that one). I have looked at everything. I want a weapon that will cover Arizonas big game. Most of all I want something I can reach out and touch the Ghosts with! Thoughts and suggestion appreciated. I would love to just get an old model 99 Savage 300 but I am not sure it really gives me any range. I just love lever action. Grew up with a model 94 in my hand and have always liked the lever style. .243 .270 maybe .280 maybe .300 Savage .300 Winchester Mag? .308 30.06 Lets hear it and fast I gotta find the stick mount a sight and find a target.

very nice what area of 36 A I am hoping its not mine since 4 for 4 means less for me

NEW RIFLE PURCHASE FOR NOV HUNT ADVIDE
gnoto replied to gnoto's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The 300 is just too much when I figured in all costs including ammo and like many of you noted a .270 Win will do the job. I called every Wal MArt in the Valley and could not find a Weatherby .270 for under $388. After seeing Ernesto's post I could not bring myself to spend more then $200 at Walmart. So the choices were .270 Win in Used Ruger M77 with trashed old scope for $400 good wood stock Used Savege 110 same old trashed scope $275 average wood stock New Savage 110 Synthetic Stock with Simmons $200 from Wal Mart I'll tell ya what I chose tomorrow and most importantly how it reacted on the range today. Thanks for all the help. -

NEW RIFLE PURCHASE FOR NOV HUNT ADVIDE
gnoto replied to gnoto's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Thanks Guys I'm gonna stop by Wally World later today. Tough to not buy a Winchester, but if the Weatherby is a better rifle for the money I'll get it. I never considered a recoil pad or muzzle break. How much punch does it have. I have a short barrel 30-30 and had a 30-06 how much more kick does it have. -
NEW RIFLE PURCHASE FOR NOV HUNT ADVIDE

I appreciate the info. I am cheap in the regard of I am not going to pay more then the best price available. As for spending in general I spend what I have too. I am sure I will spend what I have to to get a good used older Savage model 99 .300 as long as you all agree I am not giving up too much of one thing for another. no recoil concerns I can handle that. Range is key and I do not know what I should about longer range shooting. I will check Wal Mart tonight and have been checking the online sites regularly. As I am a little unfamilar with ranges as long as these. BAsed on Longest Range and compatability with larger game ELK! It sounds like a .300 is good or maybe a .270. I imagine but am not sure the 30.06 has far less range then the .300 or .270 Lastly the savage 99 .300 will take a mag round right? -
I ahve had the opportunity to shoot them all. Grew up witha uncle who ownes an archery business. I woudl say before the Solo Cam by mathews Hoyt was the way to go. There is nothing close to the Matthews. Not in size weight, accuracy, dependability. Your son will have the best he can use and never want to put it down. Practice is the key to a sucessful bow hunt. Practice with a Matthews for a day and then a Hoyt for a day. You will concur Matthews No matter what you buy if you buy a compound save the money and buy a Matthews. Anything else is second class. Not to mention you can resellit for more then most hoyts cost new.

Coues Whitetail .Com Record book
gnoto replied to coues addict's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ah yes Josh you are correct they must pay the ultimate price and I am sure they do not apprecaite that. Although tougue in cheek my reference was to my opinion I guess. if i was a Coues I would appreciate the hunter recognizing the real reason for the book. The deer not the hunter. If were creating a book of great deer we shoudl include a non hunt section for them. Pick Up road kill ETC. Maybe we need to also add a drop section later on. We will have to of course call it the Josh's collection page as most often he seems to find the big ones. -
anybody ever been attacked by an injured deer.
gnoto replied to creed_az_88's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
never bya deer but had to take cover from a pack fo wild dogs in upstate NY about 10 or 12 yrs ago. Was tracking a doe a friend wounded and heard a rucus in the Woods. Big rucus downa ridge line. It was real thick and I had a tag so I figured I could look for the Doe later. Climbed one of the 8 million tree stands in the immediate area and started to glass as much as I could. Its thick up there. I spot this pack of dogs just ripping through the woods. You would not think to be afraid of a few domestic collies but after about an hour in the tree waiting for them to split. Eventually I had to throw a couple their way to get them to move on, but I was counting rounds for sure. They apparently got wind of the doe which they found for me by the way! She was a bit mangled to say the least. -
Coues Whitetail .Com Record book
gnoto replied to coues addict's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ok basic form We should probably start with this Falls Hunt. Maybe later we can do a past bucks online book. Lets start with AZ, NM and if everybody agrees Mexico should be included but seperated. Guided or not the Coues did'nt have a choice and its about the deer so we should include all. Fall Winter Spring Summer We can add definitions to kill type. Archery Rifle Muzzleloader Basic Entry: Deer Name optional Season Kill Type Description Score Weight Commentary: Time of Day, terrain, hunt story. Other suggestions GN -
This is really easy to fix. Make the non resident license for big game $500. That way only real hunters from out of state willing to take a chance get one. i believe other states do it that way
