    My 2005 HAM hunt

Josh I can show you some areas in 36 A and B that have in my opinion as many and as large Coues as anyplace. The doe population is nuts. I count as many as 100 on any given day. My hunt was Wet Wet Wet. Saw some of the best scenery big water falls. Lots of water. 36B. I was in the flats when they were on the hills. By time I got to the hills they were running from a couple boys from Idaho. Being an honest guy I did not radio my guys until I had helped them get theirs. good heard of 10 pigs. best I have seen in a while. Did notice a few strange things down near Warsaw Canyon. If you ahve been in that area let me know I am sure I was still on the US side. There is a RV.at the bottom of the canyon no road. It didn;t fall there thats for sure. Its near an old mine camp about 250 feet down in teh bottom of the canyon.

    winchester silver tips

I spent some time this fall messing around wiht all three the Win 130 siler tips which i thought would be fine for Deer, pigs and the like. I then tried the horny's and was really impressed. I was going to go withthem and figured I would just shoot he box of win accubond 140's since I had them.. I was nto lookin gwhen I picked up the 130's and ended up with a box of each. Glad I did. The win 140's are cost friendly and I found them very consistant. The Hornaday may stay together better on Impact I will let you know how the 140 works.

    .243 or .308

i think I was in the same place you were last fall. The consensus(sp) was .270 you all thought it was light enough for Couse and could be loaded enough for Elk. What else do you need. I 'm glad i got it. first savage and it was a leftover at walmart. No accu trigger on the older model. composite stock is not my favorite but not abig deal. I was in teh black at 200 yards with factory loads and the stock scope within 10 shots. For the $199 I paid I think its a great deal. My theory now is at the end of the day if you can shoot strait there is a good shance the weapon will to. If I had the cash I would have gotten the ruger now I'm glad I did'nt

    Rude hunters

I always take the forward approach. Those guys in the truck would have to run me over or stop. I'm friendly to an extent! Help a guy when he needs it everytime. I ahve a habit of stopping at every camp I see on my way in. I say hi ask them wher ethey intend to hunt and let them know where I will be. If we cross paths its friendlier and there is no question who was going where. Lots of guys just like to drive around like my Father in Law. He is no thte kind to jump out of the truck but he will note what he was and come back when the time is right. GEt to know whoever is out there. Nov hunt is 36A Stopping helped. LAter on these guys came to me and my partner needing help finding 3x they had gotten earlier in the day. Two things. We were able to help them find the deer and it happenns when this guy was lining up his shot we were close by and were informed enough on where he would be that we never disturbed his shot and knew who was shooting where and why. MAkes things easier. There are a lot more os us out there then you think stop say hi tell us your plan we will tellyou ours and all bag some game!

    shafts

Pack Horse At some point you will probably wander past me and my truck. Of late I have had great success blowing out front right tires. This last event ended with stripped lugs courtesy fo the tire guy who put the new on eon. i had a great time finding a cell signal. Once I did it was a real treat guiding the guy from Luna's in Amado to me. If your ever stuck in 36 call Luna's. Honest family hard working people and they don't cheat ya! As for the arrows I am really considering the aluminum tree limbs again my carbon seems to crack a lot more then those old aluminim Eastons. GN

    GIANT CATALINA BUCK?!?!

I'm convinced after what I ahve seemn ahnging on some wallsin Tucson that several of the top 10 alltime would not be on the list of thes guys cared about scores and record books. My uncle has two I cathink of. I will take some pictures when Isee him later this month. I'm sure its well over 130. A lot of these big Coues were taken in the late 1950's. NEx ttime you visit an old timer ask him if he ahs any of his youmight be suprised. GN

    picked up the j-13

I'm gonna try one this HAM hunt in Feb. 36A. Stop by if your in the area. My camp looks like a mash unit. Should'nt be more then a dozen tents! I have tried a few other calls in the past with little luck but it may be due to the fact that I did not call constant until they came back.

    I need help!

spent the weekend in 36A. Tons of Coues. Heards upwards of 40 deer! Few bucks mostly 3x's. The does were very large. Saw a few piggies too. I watched 3 guys walk off a hill Sunday just before dusk. There was anentire heard on the hill below them and they never noticed. I tried to get tehir attention but beign quiet and getting somebodys attention are hard. They walked by two different 3x's within 25 yds inmy estimate and the coues just stuck it out never moved. Amazing deer. Unfortunatly I was onthe ridge line I figured they were going to cross ,but he sun would not hold out for me. GN

    San Carlos 5x6 NT coues

Wondering exactly wher eyou got him on the res. My uncle has a mount of a Coues taken in 1957 I believe. Very similar looking except his has a bit larger base and double eyegards. It is not in any books he is asimple man claimed it was scored in the 130's. I will get a few pictuers and post them you can tell me your opinion. GN

    Jan Bowhunting bucks and boars

Spent the weekend in 36A. Saw well over 50 Coues Sunday late. Got back in ther Monday and found them sunning themselves on an Eastern slope. There were a few small 3x's. What got my interest wasa the size of the Does. The lead 1/2 dozen were larger then any coues doe i have ever seen. I think this is very favorable for the next few years production! Saw a few pigs. Some were quite large. no packs one's and two's.

    foxes @ yots

36A is packed with Yotes. I spend some time up top of Batamore and counted no less then a dozen coyotes during one weekend in Nov. Funny very few pigs in that area!

PackHorse. A or B I was thinking Sunday in A around the Cerro's near Batamore. Then hitting the south end of Ruby Roady Monday morning. Where you heading maybe we'll cross paths. I'm kinda pissed at a Coues Buck in A that toyed with me during the rifle hunt. i was also considering the option of taking one of those mindless 4x Mules in the area if the Coues plays me up Batamore again.

    Rude hunters

I agree with Brian. If you need a vehicle to get to your starting point thats one thing, but when it becomes the hunter I get pissed. I must admit I have stopped fighting those guys and have used them as another tool in hunting. Just like Brian saw those guys will chase anything worth a dang otu of an area. I tend to get back far enough that teh end of their range is thebeginning of mine. I ahve found it to be of value just like the illegals. Find the disturbance and watch it push everything around. Then take your kill out to the road and when they stop on the way back you can explain to them that they drove right by the amimal you shot. Thank them for their help and explain to them the more time they spend on that ATV the less time they are hunting. There is no way to stop them jus tlike a river so harness the power they provide and don't let them ruin your hunt. I knew a paralized guy who kept hunting by getting special permission to hunt from his truck but he was a rare case he could not walk! Lastly and soem of you might not want to do this, but when your truck issitting at the end of a road there is no way for anybody to know where you are out there. Maybe leaving some sort if note would help. I got screwed out of a very fine 4x in the Cerro's on the Nov hunt by not leaving something noting my direction. Where I parked is the only real way into this area and teh guy who spooked my 4X had no way of knowing what part of the 5 sq miles I was in. He did not want to see me either. We laughed about it and moved on.
