I have watched my son kill2 bulls nd one cow elk with that combination. 1 bull at 300+ yds. I think that it would be great for those deer. It works well on anything we have put it to with 125 Gr. nosler's.

I think the .223 with GOOD bullets would do fine on those little deer if ranges are not too long. I have personally killed at least 25 head of elk with a .223 sometimes going through both shoulders. These were almost all road hit elk that were crippled too badly to get around. Don't sell the little round short. It will do in a pinch.

My current favorite long range round is either a 6x.284 or a 6.5x.284. Both do well on mule deer and ought to be just the ticket for Coues deer I am thinking!

My son and I are trying to put together a coues hunt next fall on a budget. We have hunted all accross the west for deer butnever coues. We have decided to rectify that by trying to get a tag next year and get after them. We will be doing it ourselves sans guides and outfitters and such so any advice on which areas to put in for for a rifle hunt would be a great help. We are not looking for B&C bucks just decent representative bucks. Thanks for any help.

I have dealt with drugrunners and illegals for longer than I care to say if that is the best country to hunt that is fine, I know just how they are dealt with. Or should be anyway. Thanks for the info gentlemen.

LAst evening I saw 7 bulls that still had their horns on, but there were probably 5 other bulls in the bunch that had no horns. None showing any new growth yet. We have not seen a buck with horns for about 3 weeks now.

What a great site you guys have here!! You have convinced me that I have to try hunting these little deer. I know nothing about these guys other than what I have read. I will be planning a hunt in 2004 for them, If I can draw a tag, any suggestions as to where, when and how would be greatly appreciated.
