My wife has recently been dealing with some pretty extreme medical issues and she was looking for a break. She told me she wanted to chase antelope around and I figured I could make that happen. A few phone calls later and she had a NM rifle antelope tag in her pocket. We made the trip to NM with my father and we were greated at the ranch by the ranch manager Tyler. We got settled in and headed out for a mid-morning hunt. After looking around we found a great buck and got within 320 yards of the buck. Nicole shot slightly low on the first shot but the buck ended up turning and running right to us and she hammered him at 90 yards. Nicole has turned into an amazing hunter and I am extremely proud of her. Her buck scored right at 80". I will post video later.

Well believe it or not my 16 year old brother drew a 4A rifle antelope tag. Wait it gets better my stepmom drew a 9 rifle antelope tag. For those of you who don't know I have triplet brothers and a sister that are all 16 so my stepmom signed her 9 tag over to my other brother. Its alway nice to be lucky. So needless to say we had some antelope to get after in two totally different parts of the state. Based on my limited time I contacted a couple good friends who I knew would be willing to help. Jay Scott and Darr Colburn agreed to help my brother and my dad in unit 9 since they were already up there scouting for the upcoming elk hunt. My good friend Daniel Franco agreed to help us in 4A. Typically I would be scouting as much as possible but with my wifes recent medical issues I was not able to get out at all. I managed to make it up to 4A after the morning hunt on opening day and I spent the next day and a half with Daniel, Mike, Devon, Damon, and my brother Taylor looking for a shooter. To say it was tough would be an understatment. There were 7-8" bucks running 10--15 does. Friday night we did not see a buck over 10" and Saturday morning was much of the same. Finally mid morning on sunday we found a nice buck and decided to make a play on him. The buck ended up running right to us and my brother missed at 200 yards. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. A few hours later we found what appeared to be a nice buck at a very long distance. We cut the distance and Taylor and I made our way over while Daniel kept an eye on the buck. We were able to make within 380 yards of the bedded buck and his loan doe. After sitting in the sun for hours the buck finally got up and presented us with a shot. Taylor's shot was a little back but it did the trick. I got great video of this hunt and I will post it later. When we walked up to the buck man were we suprised. We knew the buck was heavy but we did not expect him to be as heavy as he was. The buck ended up scoring 81.5" with only a 13.6" horn and a 14.1" horn. I sent a text picture over to Jay and Darr and to my suprise they sent me a text back stating Alex had just killed his buck. Jay and Darr had spotted a buck a long ways off so my dad and Alex cut the distance. As they were getting close to shooting distance some cattle spooked the heard of antelope. The buck took off and made one fatal mistake of stopping for a split second and my brother hammered him at 300 yards. Alex's buck is in the mid 70's. I would like to thank Jay Scott, Darr Colburn, Daniel Franco, Mike Hancock, Devin Hancock, and Damon for all there great help.

Well my dad managed to draw another bull tag this year. Last year he hunted hard and had some close calls but could never make it happen. This year he was looking for redemption. Thursday found us seated on a high perch overlooking some amazing elk country. As the sun fell behind the mountains we started hear some bulls bugleing and we got a glimpse of a couple nice bulls. Open morning came with much anticipation. I was perched high above a cedar/juniper flat while my dad picked his way through the bugling bulls looking for a bull worthy of his tag. We only located smaller bulls that morning. Mid-morning I began glassing a large mountain. Halfway up the mountain I spotted a giant bull pushing a dozen cows. I watched the bull work his way into a thicket with the cows and bed down. The plan was set and that afternoon my dad and Aaron made there way into the bulls bedroom. I watched them cover the 2 miles across to the bull. I could see the bull bugling but I could barely hear the bugles because I was so far away. As the sun was sinking fast the bull began to destroy a small tree. I knew my dad was close but I was not sure exactly how close. The next thing I know the bull jumps and I can see blood pouring out from behind the bulls shoulder. The bull ran into a thicket where I saw him bed. We decided to leave him over night and the next morning we tracked him to his final resting place. This is my dads best bull to date and to say he earned it would be an understatment. HIs bull scores 382 2/8" gross. I would like to thank Aaron, Randy, Zak, and Chad for there help.

Loop hole in dead animal removal for elk in coconino forest???
azcouesfanatic replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Elk Hunting
Ok this is my understanding. Game and fish is not going to enforce this rule but if you are stopped by the forest service I promise you they will write you a ticket. The reason I say game and fish is not going to enforce the rule is because that is what several unit managers have told me. But understand you are dealing with two different law enforcement agencies both of which have jurisdiction. So just because game and fish decides not to write you a ticket does not mean forest service can't. I think the wood cutting permit is a stellar idea. Hope this helps. For that person who takes the chance and ends up with a ticket remember you were warned. Good luck to everyone. -
Well my dad and I headed out to New Mexico on Friday for the Saturday opener of archery antelope. First light on Saturday found me crawling in on a nice buck. I was utilizing my Be the decoy system and when the buck saw me he closed from 150 yards to 70 in no time. He finally stopped for a shot at 85 yards and I shot just a little high. My dad was sitting in a blind but I quickly realized there was too much water to be sitting on water. I called my dad and told him and we met up. We began looking for another buck to stalk when we found a bachelor group of three bucks. My dad was able to make a great 40 yard shot and I followed him with a 50 yard shot on my buck. It was a quick hunt but we had a great time. It was a good warm up for my dads elk hunt to come.

I had that tag in 1996. It was a fun hunt.

This is a great unit for a fun hunt. My recommendation would be to shoot the first buck you think will go over 80. I know there are probably a few that will go over 80 in the unit but I would not expect much above 84-85. I had the tag in 2001 and killed an 82 2/8 net buck and in 2010 I assisted a friend from New Mexico and we killed an 81 4/8 buck. The funny thing is we could of killed the 81" buck the first thing in the morning on opening day but we elected to pass. We passed up well over a dozen bucks throughout the day and ended up going back to the first buck of the morning. We did not kill him that night but the next morning. Good Luck

Hey Guys, I am selling my 2011 Elite Pulse. I have had the bow for approximately 1.5 years. The bow is right handed, 70lbs, with a 30" draw in Max 1 camo. Hey Guys, Well I got a new truck and my old bed extender no longer fits. The old truck was a 2006 Ford F150. I am not exactly sure what other models the bed extender will fit on but I know it does not fit my 2010. I think it will fit on 04-08 but I have not verified this. Give me a call if you are interested. Unless I missed something I do not see where anyone discounted Little Horn Outfitters or Southwest Hunting Adventures. Both are fine outfits and have produced some giant rams. With that being said there is no one that can even come close to Double H's track record. No one has been kiling big sheep for as long and no one has killed as many big rams. I am not saying they are the best but they definately have the best success on big rams in Arizona. I would also expect the auction hunter to kill the biggest ram in the state but it does not always happen that way, because after all it is still hunting. I think it is important to find the best guide for the unit you drew a tag in, since no one guide can know every unit. Good luck to all of those who are fortunate enough to draw one of these amazing tags. In my opinion any one of the three outfitters that I discussed would do everything in their power to get any client the biggest ram possible.

Well life has been very difficult lately because last month my wife was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She recently had her first chemo treatment and let me tell you that stuff sucks. Thanks to great family I managed to make it out and hunt turkey's for two days on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. Let me tell you there are no shortage of turkey's on the WMAT. It started out a little slow but on my last morning to hunt things picked up. I managed to call a bird in for my brother right off the roost and then I managed to knock down two more birds an hour later. I hunted with a bow for 1.5 days but on the last half day the bang stick came out. Not only did my brother Taylor and I knock down two birds that morning my buddy Jay Scott called in two birds for my brother Alex bringing our morning total to 5 birds. It was a great morning. Jay got great video of both of Alex's birds I will post the link later. I am not sure what the point totals are for turkey's but I am sure someone can add them into our score. Oh yeah, both my brother drew rifle antelope tags in AZ. Unit 9 and Unit 4a, what are the odds of that. My dad also drew an archery bull tag for 18b. Looks like it is going to be a busy fall. Enjoy

I have 13 points for goats and I am trying to draw an archery tag. I did draw a rifle tag in 2001 and an archery tag in 2002. However, my little brother drew rifle 4A this year and my other little brother drew rifle 9. Good luck to all.

Hey everyone, Well my buddy Wes with Wes's Western Taxidermy has been on a four year roll of putting others on giant Coues bucks. This year he assisted his good friend Pat with his son, Payson's youth hunt. They hunted hard the first day and Payson missed a small buck. Little did they know what was in store for them on day two. Wes spotted this giant and Payson made an amazing shot. I personally held this buck and I have never seen a buck with so much mass. This buck has over 17" of mass per side along with some extra kickers. The buck grosses 125 6/8". This is another giant harvested by a youth hunter. Enjoy Brian

Well my little brother Taylor has been my good luck charm this year. A week after I harvested a great coues deer with my bow I managed to harvest this Javelina. Saturday at 430am found Taylor and I headed out looking for pigs. The weather predicted 30-40mph winds by the afternoon so we were hoping the morning hunt would be good for us. My second pass over the mountain with my Swarovski 15x56's produced a heard of 10 javelina. The stalk was on. I left Taylor on the hill to keep an eye on the pigs and I took off. The pigs were on the move so I was trying to cut them off. They beat me to the intersection point and when I got there they had dropped down into the cut. I circled back around them and managed to get in front of the heard. I could hear pigs at less than ten yards but they were in some thick stuff. I tried to move so I could spot them and I busted the heard. The heard busted out and one pig stopped at 30 yards quartering away (big mistake). I sent my gold tip 5575 tipped with the new Ulmer Edge from trophy taker on its way from my Pulse. The arrow found its mark and it did some amazing damage. I have never seen such a hole. Sorry for the blood in the picture but there was not much I could do to clean it up. If you get a chance check out the Ulmer Edge at trophy taker.com. Hope you Enjoy Brian

Ilene, That is a great buck. I bet those beams are somewhere around 18" maybe more. Looks like Javier took great care of you. Congrats -
The Ulmer Edge will be available this year. Check out trophytaker.com for more information.
