Is 45 inches to much growth for one year?

Great question. I think it's definitely possible. Obviously there are lots of things that could impact this. Brian

    Nicole's First Archery Deer

Hey everyone, Well I have managed to get out several days this year but my wife has not been so lucky. Finally we had an afternoon to get out, yesterday. I took her to a water tank I have known about for several years and figured we would set up a blind and see what happened. We got in the blind around 430pm and we were ready for some actions. To say it was hot would be an understatement. It was probably 105 degrees in the blind but it was dry and we figured something would have to show up. At 7pm I looked over and saw a mule deer buck coming in for a drink. He cautiously approached the water and presented Nicole with a perfect broadside shot at 34 yards, which proved to be a fatal mistake. One shot from her Mathews passion and she had her first archery deer. The buck went 15 yards before expiring. It was a great Sunday afternoon and I could not have been more proud. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Brian

2011 my first Bull Elk Hunt adventure, begins today!!

It seems like everyone has the early rifle tag in 3c. I am up here with three friends who all drew. One had no bonus points and the other two had five points and drew on the same application. Bugling has been spotty but there around. Good luck to all those with the tag. Reference the fire/ deer issue it is my understanding archery deer will be a draw in 3c next year. Brian

    #28 for Dad

Well this year has been very good to my dad. I put him in for the Valles Caldera raffle tag and wouldn't you know it he drew it. There is only 2-3 non-resident tags out of 15 total permits and 2 of those tags go to non-residents who apply with a guide. What is even funnier about it, is he had no idea I put him in. He calls me and says I just got an email that said I drew a bull tag on the Valles Caldera. At first I thought it was a joke. We headed over to NM last Thursday and we were able to scout that evening. The Valles Caldera is an amazing elk sanctuary and there are lots of elk. The first day we got into several good bulls but nothing would give us a shot. On the second morning we hiked way back into a spot where we could hear the bulls screaming. When we got close there were 8-10 bulls going crazy. The first bull that showed himself was a 300 class 6pt but he busted us. We continued working into the bugles and we had another 300 class bull at 75 yards. We were both pinned down waiting for something to happen. I looked down to my left and this 5pt was coming on a string. My dad could not see him until he stepped out at 10 yards. As the bull turned broadside my dad drew and the bull spooked. A couple cow calls and he stopped at 15 yards and my dad made a perfect shot. We watched the bull go down. This was my dads 28th elk with a bow. Dad could of held out a little longer but he also has an Arizona tag in his pocket. Enjoy Brian

    help with a cow tag

Tough unit. It should dry out next week and if it does I would look for water especially if your wife is pregnant. I would also select a salt lick but it's a little late to start one right now. Glassing with radios also works well in 7e. Good luck Brian
