Already got my buck this year, but have been scouting the area with friends. 35a has some deer which are easy to find along the roads, but most people will want to hunt them. Find a large hill overlooking some draws, where diff terrain features meet, i.e. open with dense brush(draws), pull up a chair in the early morning and glass. If you have to walk for a half hour or so before you get to the hill the better. Good Luck!

How do you pass the time in the blind?
Sassquatch replied to capt88's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I sit there and enjoy the surroundings, and take pictures of some of the other animals that come by, I usually end up finding a deer right after, like they know that I am paying attention to the turkeys, squirrel, skunks or something else that I had the pleasure of seeing living its life oblivious to my existence. -
I just wanted to let everyone know, not sure of the rules here, but I have to mention a piece of equipment. I bought a peep sight eliminator, or"compound bow rifle sight", that resembles a rifle open sight. Simply line up your front sight pin with your rear sight v notch, Literally no matter where your anchor point is, if the sights are aligned you will hit your target. It helped me on my very first Bow hunt this year and the shot was at 40yds, easily done with the confidence I had in myself and equipment. The website has many testimonials and stories of people "robin hood"ing arrows. This will not take the place of range time, but on my very first day at the range and my first grouping at 50yds it was under 10". Sassquatch

Spent three days overlooking a pond and after not having a chance to use game camera's I couldn't find the watering hole of a nice 4x4 I had seen. After three 9+hr days at a pond seeing almost every small game creature known in SE Arizona I harvested my 1st archery coues. Not the size of my 1st coues, nice 97pt 4x4 last year, but I still had the shakes. Took it at 40yds, and dropped on site. Now I just have to find other things to fill the freezer.

Thanks you all, it really was exciting to see this fine animal for three days, and all the others out there waiting for shooting range. I wanted to bow hunt as last year I filled two elk and one coues tag with little issues. If you havent been bow hunting, the thrill and close up and personal feeling is something I will cherish and teach my son. We've actually got video of him holding both antlers and jumping up and down yelling excitedly. It is a great feeling. Josh

Unfortuneately it is not a monster like some of the others, but I am happy and can only wait until my "little Hunting Buddy" is ready to go out there with me!

I saw that a couple of you hunt on the fort, I just saw a buck but got spooked by a doe about 100 out. I have set out over a pond, but to no luck, had a doe (40 yds, and coyote 10) pass by me, but they didn't go towards the water, any help on maybe where to find some if you already tagged yours. This is my first archery season. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Josh/usmc

Archery Coues Deer Hunt on Ft Huachuca this August
Sassquatch replied to Big G's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I went out this weekend on Ft. H and saw a couple bucks, but still kinda new to archery hunting, any helpful hints. I did a spot and stalk, but lost sight of them about 100 yds out in thick brush and never saw them again.
