Me and my son came upon this while checking the trail cam last week. My guess is that it got wedged in the fork of the tree when it was smaller Anyone else seen something like this before?

Camera is a Kodak v603. We have had trouble with it but it does take good pics sometimes. -

new bucks have moved in!
AZ RANGER replied to Buckhunter's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Nice pictures and some good bucks. What time of day are you getting the most activity? In the last pic it is mid-day, just wondered about the others. I seem to get a lot of deer coming in around noon or after in the areas I have cams set up. -
Holy crap those are great. I would have that area under some heavy surveillance.

Thats a good bull. That first picture looks like he has another antler growing out of his jaw, took me a second to figure out it was his leg. -
Checked a cam, lots of bucks!

Those are great pics. Hopefully you can keep getting those bucks on camera and watch them grow. -

cool pics thanks for sharing. -
It is my opinion that hunting coues requires a lot of sweat unless your waiting in a blind or stand. Backpacing will only create more sweat. Trying to cover up all that scent will be very difficult. I find it easier to worry less about scent control and worry more about wind. This is usually a loseing battle too because it changes direction so often. So be patient. If you are camping near water you could clean up with the scent eliminating soap etc. and that would help cover the stink. Wet wipes i another option. I think keeping your hunting clothes off until your ready is a good practice and I usually do the same, but that requires you carry more in your pack. good luck.

I went out Monday and today looking for sheds. Monday I had my 5 year old son Hunter tagging along. He had a blast hiking with me. We did not find any bone, but still had fun. I was suprised at how well he kept up. We only went about 1.5 mi. but it was very steep in some areas. Today I went out by my self and hiked about 6 miles. I figured today would be the last day of sub 100 degree weather so I covered some low elevation areas where I saw some big bucks earlier in the year. I searched all morning in some good areas and found nothing. Finally as I got almost back to the truck I found what was left of a lion kill. Only found the front two legs and jaw bone. No head gear. A little furthur down I found a bedding area and searched every inch of it. I came up with these two small ones within about ten yards of each other, but not from the same buck. . All in all it was a good day, and I did'nt come home empty handed.

I also came across this grinding stone.

I dont know all the details but from what I've been told BLM decided to do a controled burn of 100 acres today. It got out of hand and really blew up around 2pm
-
HOLY CRAP! That is awesome. I wish these lions would stop killing good bucks though.
-
That's a great find. I hope he passed on his genes. Now you need to find the lion responsible. The country in those photos looks familiar. I ll be out on Monday with my 5 year old on his first shed hunting trip. hopefully we will have some of your luck.

Mt Graham ablaze

There does'nt seem to be a lot of info out on this fire. At least not that I can find. I have been told they pulled both ground and air units out today becuase conditions were too extreme. Its going through some good coues country. Here is a link I just found http://www.eacourier.com/articles/2008/05/...be672403298.txt -
Those pics give me the heebie jeebies. I would be perfectly happy to never see that in the wild. But I bet Lark would walk through there in flip-flops.

Awesome Coues Mount!!!
AZ RANGER replied to huntscout's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
That is an awesome mount. two great bucks -
Thanks guys I guess my main concern with the gaiters is the toe area. It seems like that area would not be covered by the gaiters, and in most cases the snake would be closest to that part of your foot. I need a steel toed tennis shoe.

What are your opinions on using a decoy for the early bull archery hunt. Are they worth spending 90.00? There are like three different Montana decoy elk. Which ones have you used with sucess? is this money beter spent on something else. I will hunt both spot and stalk and from a blind or tree stand. Thanks
-
Wow thats a great offer, I would take you up on it if you were closer but by the time I paid for fuel to come and get and then bring it back I could probably buy two of them. Maybe if I went to the valley for another reason but I almost never go. thanks everyone for the feedback keep it coming.

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards getting one with some of my econ. stim. check. I hope some trigger happy hunter with a cow tag does'nt arrow me or my hunting partner.
