Nice buck and great write up! -
I am mixed on this one. I like that he runs a zone blocking scheme that should open up our running game and allow Carrey to showcase his skills, but his defense has always been suspect. We need to hire a good d-coordinator. I hope Byrne knows what he is doing. He sure picked a good basketball coach. #1 ranked recruiting class in the nation!

Those four sheep on the wall sure look good together, nice positioning and poses of the mounts. I hope to add one to my wall one day! Congrats

Another coues masterpiece from Mogollon Taxidermy. My 109-1/8" 2009 buck.

That is a very nice buck and mount! One suggestion, I like to take a butter knife or my finger and tuck the hair in that touches the wall on my mounts. It gives the mount a cleaner look. Just a suggestion, it looks great! -
I picked up my sheep this weekend and I could not be happier. I have yet to hang it, but I couldn't resist taking a few pics. I also threw in a few pics of a sheep skull I put onto a walnut plaque a good friend gave me. I plan on putting the two on the living room wall to compliment each other. For the past few years, my father and I had been trying to plan a trip to Canada for some pike fishing. This is a story of that plan coming to fruition: Day 1: I left San Diego early in the morning, and after a 2 hour layover in Minneapolis, I arrived in Winnipeg. I met up with my father, brother, and a few family friends. We would be leaving early in the morning to drive 8 hours north to the lakes we would be fishing, so we quickly went to bed. Day 2: The long drive up to the lakes was lengthened by some nasty, windy weather. The total drive time was not wasted as we spent it telling fish tales and catching up with each other. We arrived at the cabin around 6 p.m. and realized we were not fishing that night due to the weather. Day 3: We spent the morning getting fishing tackle ready for a trip to one of the smaller lakes that was more sheltered than the larger two. This lake did not hold the large fish we were looking for, but I did get my first taste of pike fishing. I caught about 30 pike at this lake all in the 20-32 inch range. Day 4: The weather finally gave us a break and we were able to go out on Clearwater Lake. This lake is one of the worlds largest "clean" lakes. The water source to the lake is a natural spring which keeps the water crystal clear. We mainly trolled in the morning and ended up getting a few large ones on the boat. I had two "master" fish come off the hook just as they got close to the net. (Fish are considered "masters" if they are 41 inches or longer) My brother ended up catching a very nice 46 inch pike during this trolling. Later in the afternoon, we drove out to the middle of the lake and started fishing for lake trout. The process was simple: let your heavy spoon fall to the bottom, raise your rod up three times, then real as fast as you can to the boat. I caught about 10 trout in 20 minutes with this process and it wore me out. This was probably the most fun we had on this trip although the largest fish was only about 26 inches. Day 5, 6, and 7: For these three days, we fished Cormorant lake right where we were staying. This lake held the largest fish and was the most desirable of the lakes to fish. Throughout these three days, I caught too many fish to count. Including my three largest fish measuring in at 41”, 42.5”, and 43”. All in all, our group caught 22 “masters” and had a blast. If you have not done one of these trips, I highly recommend you give it a try!

Well this last weekend was the weekend I had been waiting for all year. It was the first, and last, day of my california desert bighorn hunt. The unit I was hunting in was a rugged nasty mountain range snuggled next to the Joshua Tree national forest called the Sheepholes. I enlisted the help of Dry Creek Outfitters on my hunt and they had been in the area for a week spotting sheep when I arrived. They had seen some rams and I had my hopes set high. The unit I was hunting was not know to produce large sheep and any sheep in the 140s would be considered very good. The sight of the mountain range really got my engine running. The camp set up was much nicer than I had ever expected as well. After very little sleep, I awoke early in the morning and we headed off to where the sheep where last seen. This unit is very tricky due to the annual migration of the rams out of the unit to the mountain range across the road on the military base. By the time the hunt starts, some of the rams have left the unit and the others will usually make there way out within the first couple of weeks. The ram we had in mind was last seen a couple hundred yards from crossing the road. We knew it would be a long shot to find him, but it was worth a try. It did not take long for my guides to pick up the sheep on the top of a nearby sheep. They were moving downhill slowely at first and then began to pick up some pace. We rushed over to the edge of the mountain to try and cut them off. The largest ram had broken off from the others and was near the bottom. He got an extra little push from two large military helicopters that happened to fly right over him! As we pulled around the corner, one of the guides spotted him on the desert floor attempting to cross. I jumped out of the vehicle and was able to get set up prone for a 200 yard shot. As I fired the first shot, the guide told me I missed. I felt good about the shot(turns out it was a double lung shot that went straight through and hit the hill behind him), but decided to put another in him just in case. The second shot dropped him immediatly and I had my first sheep! When I first drew this tag, I had envisioned a very long and difficult hunt that involved scaling peaks and many blisters. I never imagined the luck I would have in being at the precise point when one of these marvelous sheep would attempt his descent and try to cross mountain ranges. My sheep scored 153 and was the second largest sheep ever harvested out of this unit. I can't thank my guides enough. Thank you Cliff, Tim, Matt, coach, and Grover. I would also like to thank my father for coming out and supporting me on this hunt. I could not have done it without them. He was aged at 5+years by the biologist.
