I didnt read all the posts but I would agree a bowhunters saftey course card, and @ that time they could make sure you can shoot it- I cant tell you how much I cringe to see a rifle hunter turned bow hunter talk about hunting and all of their strategy is rifle based, or go to the range and some one is there with a new bow that doesnt even fit them that they can barely draw back let alone correctly throw a few arrows down range and walk away thinking they are ready to go. and then the comment it dont matter when you slit thieir throat(ref. game) has any one here been able to slit the throat of a paunch shot deer?!lol I encourage every one to pick up a bow,it was one of the best decisions I think Ive made but I cant tell you how much time and research I put in before I did , as well as range time. the over the counter tag draws alot of poeple over to archery which can help and hinder our sport. its the same guys that burn up and down on quads and jump off to chase a deer or bump one and make a hastey shot- which leads to injured, suffering , lost game. If you pick up any thing to harvest game learn as much as you can about proper employment of that item before you go out and take a pop shot at game, you owe it to the game you are hunting and to your fellow hunters my.02

this is the last weekend till dec. for one reason or another Ive been detured from hunting-wife had surgery opening weekend, cub scouting w/my boysthe next , miitary obligations last etc. so if you had the choice for a last minute/ last weekend hunt where would you go ft.huachuca or 12a...

well couldnt find my hunters saftey card , so I went to the bab- saw two 3x's and was completely unprepared for them ( getting dressed) headed out and saw a few turkeys on a ridge- stalked to 20 yrds, got a perfrct broadside shot [not instant fatal] and saw the bird trying to get off the ground.the arrow didnt get a good stick on his wing and he was able to free it.and then I did the worst thing I could haveI jumped up and ran to him and sent the whole(at least 25 birds) airborne. imagine my face when I realized what Ive done and my bird took off.. I spent the rest of my time searching for him all In all I hope he passed shortly after that- my guess is that he went to perch or got to the bottom of the valley bellow. verry thick and verry steep. after watching that shot replay in my head on the way home to phoenix. I came up with this- I should have waited for a closer shot [or stalked closer] ,and let him go rest. 1st turkey and was over come with dumb a## syndrome not being able to recover game is a cruddy feeling. and ruining your own hunt is worse til next year tom newbee..

couldnt find the thread I started, but I finaly picked up my kiabab water hole map!and thought Id give you the run down on it It has every water source in 12A period. quality is good and it is easy to use, however it is in 1/100,000 scale and should be augmented with a military style protractor and GPS. e.g during your scouting/outing/hunting- estimate and plot w/ protractor, plug it in to your gps as a waypoint- go track to it and find the hole. once you locate actual tank refine your data and record as way point. reason is the [map] markings are aprox 3-400 meters/yards wide[in reference to scale] . so plot center and step it out. map is color coded and shows all roads and trail heads. Id recomend it as a usefull tool to your deer hunting arsenal. newbee..

!!! YOU GUYS HAVE TO SEE THIS !!!

2 things 1 if a helicopter or any aircraft "buzz" you get the tail # and call the FAA- and police. that is a HUGE NO-NO ( go to jail loose your licence. 2 if you dont have a CCW at least learn what your rights are, to defend your self. and be able to not only justify, but articulate your actions. Bottom line is no reasonable person is going to harrass and confront a person leagaly hunting w/ a firearm or bow. with that said ,or being the case - depending on thier body language and actions you have every right to take defensive actions i.e. pepper spray ( you should have a can of bear repellent) if they continue to agress to you after that it is safe to say they are out for no good- and you have the right to defend your self. obviously learn the law first .do not let your emotions cloud your judgment be polite and profesional. it is a free country and we do have freedom of speech. and with the benifit of the doubt they might not know that free speech dosnt apply to thier actions.inform them and allow them to un-butt the area . if they dont , well I imagine it would be the same as going into a restricted area(most state land requires a valid hunt/fish lic, or permit) and harrassing a person doing thier job, or golfing. be safe and carry pepper spray. and I hope no one here has to deal with these domestic wackos. alliby 3 place 55 gal garbage cans out in bear country stuffed w/ doughnuts grease and cover it in patchuli - that ll keep em out of the woods and if I offended any one with that comment I appologize and acknowledge that -not all bears like fattening food. after thought - If you join thier group they might lead you to some real nice bucks -
I finally killed the buck I have been chasing for a year

Bowhunter tries to close road with boulders on Saturday
newbee replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think I would have the unbearable call from mother nature despite what the law says or how any one feels- that guys parents should be slapped! for the raising such a SH** HEAD It goes with out saying any ethical hunter wouldnt do that- but where the F does he get off thinking he has the right to do what ever he wants to do?! GOD was watching and karma catches up to us all. be advised that the law- of first come is to settle disputes of 2 or more hunters converging on a position(at aprox the same time) not to alow a **** head to trample over your annual labor and take up residence on a spot youve been hunting all year! correct me if I am wrong but the hunt started months ago, 01sep is the first day of harvest. bottom line there is no excuse or justification for his actions he is wrong, wrong as camping with rover and a jar of peanut butter! WRONG -
(I went to sportsmans) If I had the time I would have went to corner archery in phx or archery head quarters in chandler.(30-55 miles away for me) both are excellent shops. tip invest in a saw and fletching jig and with in a few dozen itll pay for itself. and when it comes to fine tuning you can play w/ one arrow until its a nub. my .02

I was wondering , does any one here do serious "back country" hunting ? and if so what gear have you grown to rely on??i.e. packs, bivey covers, water filtration systems, boots -etc. what brings home the venison for you?? just a thought

area Maps, compass, etrex,I like the camleback BMF in O.D. Green - although the badlands 2200 is real nice (and may wind up in my closet.) IV(saline) bags , sutchers , foot powder, mil speck bivy and patrol bag, therma rest( I will never go to the field wth out one- if you dont have one they are worth every penny!!!)water tabs,(havent tried the ceramic filter yet) binos, survival kit in a can ( has every thing you could need if all goes bad) signal mirror, PDW( aka pistol) folder , fixed blade, and a skinner. multiple fire starting implementsas much water as I can carry and the almity TP Ive thought about a sat phone or a transponder, sat phone plans are pretty reasonable.last I saw ,25 a month for (5) five minn. and a few dollars a minn for over usage.some would argue that that takes the fun out of back country hunting im not sue about transponders.

Bowtech- I have an 05 justice and couldnt be happier, and plan on picking up the equalizer. both for me shot realy quiet. ( I also shoot a slightly hevier arrow. sacrificing a little speed for more kinetic energy) I have never shot a mathews ,obviously here and from any one I know that shoots them say they are great- it all boils down to fit and feel. if the bow fits you and feels right in your hands than thats the one you should invest your money in. my .02 worth
