I agree that the wind farms have a VERY questionable return on investment. What realy grips me is that I have invested money and 18 years of time waiting to get my unit 10 rifle tag. While I have been waiting, more and more of 10 has been locked up by over zealus ranchers. A good part of the unit I can't use my ATV on. So instead of 45 mpg and very little wear and tear, I get to beat the truck down the roads and get 12mpg. The cherry on top of all of this is that the pot of gold at the end of my 18 year rainbow, is that part of the unit is not available to me if I am using a rifle. The Perrin Ranch gets a fat check for wind farm access, and I get told what I can do on even the checkerboard state land of his ranch! Another neat tid bit is that I did not even get the information letter from AZGFD regarding this change! Shouldn't a tag holder get an update regarding changes to the hunting rules? If I didn't have good freinds looking out for me, and a great forum like CW, I could have easliy landed myself in a violation situation. Arizona Rocks!!!

I have had great sucess with my .300 win load. I am using the Nosler 180gr Ballistic Tip. I am using H4831sc powder at 76 grains. 3.395 OAL is all the box mag in my winchester model 70 will allow. I chronographed this load at 3188fps. Good luck! Don't give up, the effort will return great rewards!

Flagstaff Support
scoutpylot replied to Browning'sCustomMeat's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I was born and rasied in Flagstaff. I have enjoyed "dispursed shooting" ever since I can remember. I am very sceptical of this shooting range. My concerns mostly center around the distrust I have for all of the special interest groups who seek to destroy EVERYTHING I hold dear. I am afraid that I we have a shooting range, the whackos will pressure the spineless coconino national forest into closing all dispersed shooting areas. Their rationale will be that we have a designated place to shoot, any other places are not needed and moreover not safe. And in today's world we must be protected from ourselves at all costs. I do not want to drive 45 minutes (or farther as suggested in the above post) to get to a place where I can pop off a few rounds. I certainly don't want to pay for the opportunity every time I want to shoot. If I wanted that life style, I would live down in the sticker patch with the rest of the world. I chose to live in a rural setting on purpose. This is not to say that I wouldn't use a nice facility from time to time. I would enjoy shootng skeet, and would use the benches for primary sighting in my rifles. I think the benifits for law enforcement training will be positive. We might even get to enjoy some shoothing competitions. I just don't want this to become my only "choice". The current proposed locationl is too far from town as it is. I would not drive to two guns, and certainly not to Raymond ranch. For that matter, let's just go to Holbrook and use their already existing range. For the comments of the Flagstaff city council............... 1) There have been at least 5 ligitimate proposals for commercial indoor shooting ranges inside the city limits. EVERY one of them have been rejected by the Flagstaff city council for various reasons. The long and the short of it is that this city is anti-gun, anti-sportsmen, and anti- anything resembeling a conservative view point. 2) AZGFD did not need to discuss their plans for the land they purchased with the city council, as the land is not with in the incorperated boundaries of the city of Flagstaff. Therefore, the city is not at the table to discuss the shooting range. AZGFD already knows their position anyhow. This is just another example of the city council overstepping their bounds. 3) To the city council : Stop wasting taxpayer monies having meetings in public facilities that do not realate the the municipality that pay for those facilities. Sorry for the rant, but I've had it with all forms of government up here in the north country. -
How do we provide feed back to AZGFD on these reccomendations? I have searched their site and can't find a way to comment without e-mailing each commissioner individually.

I know for SURE that if it had been me flying the airplane, the Game and Fish department would do EVERYTHING in their power to make an example of me. AZGFD would claim that I was harassing wildlife from an airplane. There would be fines levied and AZGFD would confiscate the airplane. I don't read anywhere in the AZGFD regulations for any exemptions to harassment rules for the sake of surveys. I also have looked at the FAA's rules (F.A.R.) and find no exemption there either. This seems to me to be another example of Government employees feeling like laws don't apply to them, or that laws can be broken in the name of science. It is time for us to stand up an stop letting government take advantage of us from EVERY area in our lives! Push back! You waited your turn in their "fair" lottery system to get your tag. You paid for your tag. They ruined your opportunity. They need to be held accountable! You need to take this matter before the AZGFD comission. Regardless of what the department is doing, NO ONE can harass wildlife from an airplane. Perhaps AZGFD should pay fines to Arizona Antelope Foundation, and surrender their airplane to Arizona Antelope Foundation to be auctioned off at their annual banquet. Afterall, we have rules!

I am selling my Swarovski 8x30 SLC Binoculars. They are in excellent condition. There are no scratches on any of the lenses. These are the older model with the fixed winged eye cups. I sent them back to Swarovski last year , (as I do with my 15's as well) for overall inspection and for Swarovski to tell me if they needed any maintainance. They came back to me with a clean bill of health and no iisues found. As you can see in the pictures I have the original box and paper work. I am asking $550. I am open to offers and some trades.
-
Some one make me an offer............
-
These Binos are still available. Thoght I should add that I am not in the valley. I am up in Flagstaff. Trying to make a trip to the valley but life is getting in the way. I would still consider some trades. I am willing to pay the shipping and insurance if someone buys these binos.

Reloading... Lee vs. RCBS
scoutpylot replied to luvdemcoues's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Don't waste money on LEE. You will be frustrated. Either get into reloading or don't. If you do, buy decent equipment. RCBS is the bare minimum. -
Call the maintainance shop for Pink Jeep Tours in Sedona. They are testing the duratracks on the tour Jeeps. Even though the Jeeps are pink, they get HAMMERED!. I think they will give you an honest opinon of a field tested tire in their fleet. Just my 2 cents........look at the PRO COMP all terrain. This is the only all terrain I could find with a 50,000 mile tread wear warranty. Have about 4,000 on them now and still happy. Holding final judgement to see how far they go. Good Luck!

I am not blaming you for trying to make a few bucks. I have made my living in the car business for most of my life. Nothing wrong with giving buddies and family special treatment. Afterall what are friends for? The cheating is in the agreements you signed with the auction companies when you registered your dealership. The agreements clearly state that you will NOT bring in people to the auction who are not either owners of the dealership or employees of the dealership. Did you read what you signed? You also are cheating by violating the agreements you signed with the state to get your dealer licence. Unless you have a physical "RETAIL" location you can only wholesale cars to other dealers. If you have a store front then you are legitimate according to the state to engage in "retail" sale to the public. I know how much of a hassle it is to get a dealers licence, don't jeprodize all that work by playing out of bounds. I didn't have any trouble selling the cars I had because I bought smart, and sold at reasonable prices and stood behind what I sold! I had a loyal customer base and relied on mostly on repeat business and word of mouth recomendations to keep my business going for more than 25 years. You can do the same! Read what you agreed to and live by what you put your name on.
-
Alex....I don't know you but I feel that I must say that you are treading on very thin ice. What you are proposing is against the agreements you signed to register at the auctions (any and all dealer auctions), and unless you have a "brick and mortar" new or used car lot, it violates your dealers' licence agreement you signed with the state of Arizona. The dealer auctions are just that ----FOR DEALERS. It is not your personal used car lot on Thrursdays or Wednesdays depending on which auction you plan to attend. Do what the rest of us do...... Buy a car (or a few cars) at good prices, do a proper safety check on them, and then put them out for sale. Someone will by your car and you will make some money. But don't CHEAT!!! There is always someone who will buy the cars. Just do your homework (SCOUT) study your market, and make smart purchases. Buy right so you can sell right! There is money to be made selling cars if you are above board in your dealings, but sooner or later if you cheat....you will get caught and you will have to face what is coming to you. Noble of you to offer this luxury to all your friends and neighbors, but I'm afraid it's not yours to offer. To a fellow car dealer (retired) you are being just like the hunter who comes to this site and expects to just put up a post and be told where the 100" buck lives, and with exact GPS coordinates to boot! Sorry for the rant, but you are out of bounds!

Anyone using the Vortex Viper Scope???
scoutpylot posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a Tikka T3 (.223win) that I am going to be putting a scope on soon. This will be my varmint tool once it is set up. I was wondering if anyone is using the Vortex Viper scopes and have any comments good or bad about this scope. I was thinking of the 6.5 -20 x 50mm with the target dot reticle. The price on this scope fits the budget, but I don't have any experience with this company. Will I be disappointed with this scope or should I just delay my purchase until I can afford a better scope? Any input would be appreciated! -

I absolutely love my Jim White set up. Velbon Sherpa and Jim's signature head. Works great sitting and standing. -
I have finally drawn a tag! It has been a long dry spell. I have a 12aw Oct 30 deer tag. I am heading up next weekend to do some scouting and "hunt" turkeys. I would love to get any advise from anyone who has spent anytime in the unit. I will have next weekend and possibly one more before the hunt to scout. I would very much appreciate any areas to scout as well as areas to avoid. I am hoping to find an area that lends itself to glassing.

I am saying 131 1/2 That is one that could make you weak in the knees if seen through the scope with a tag in the pocket.

I spend a lot of time in the north part of 11m. I have not heard any music from the boys yet. I will post if I have any updates

I bought the Kryptonite system from Laserlyte (an AWESOME Arizona company!!! Cottonwood to be specific). This kit includes a green laser that can be seen in the daylight at thirty yards or more. I have bore sighted 8 rifles with this system and have been very pleased. Each rifle was at least on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper at 100 yards. You get a level to square the rifle to the earth. Then rectifier that shines a level line to square the scope to perfectly level. Then a green dot to dial the scope to. There are a couple of videos for this system on the company's web site.

Flying for scouting purposes
scoutpylot replied to yesitisme25's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Don't fly to "scout". Flying should be a tool to help you get an idea of the overall topography, road locations, possible camping areas, not to locate and field judge animals. If you are not "scouting " AZGFD rules don't apply to you. FAA rules apply. Any licensed pilot is required to know the rules about minimum in flight altitudes, special use airspace restrictions, ect. If you are flying over the hunt unit for the purpose of sight seeing, or enroute to a destination, you have every right to do so. The minute you start circling animals, flying low and slow over areas repeatedly, you have now entered the rehlm of scouting. If you "harass" an animal with an airplane, you have violated AZGFD rrules as well as USFWS rules. Harassment is defined by any flght pattern that causes the animal to run. DON'T use an airplane to harass animals!!! We shouldn't need the government to give us rules about things that are ethical issues. Don't be a dirtbg. If you want to see what your unit looks like from the air. I suggest that you (and/or your pilot) speak with the FAA FSDO (flight standards district office). There is one in Scottsdale and one in Las Vegas depending on which side of I-40 you are planning to fly in. Let them tell you what is acceptable. If you still aren't comfortable as to what rights you have, then there's always Google Earth.
