Great pictures....If the average person knew how much trash most of us pack out they would be amazed.
-
Is that a water filter or stove in the picture? Looks like an MSR stove.

Well, I'm not super old - but, I stared hunting big game in the late 70s. I remember a waiting period and there definitely were not bonus points. I also remember over the counter archery elk tags and left over whitetail tags for the December hunt.

So great! What caliber is the pistol?
-
Congratulations. Worth the wait indeed.

Really nice antelope. I am waiting on Wyoming as well. I am starting over in Arizona, so Wyoming will be next.
-
Thanks......I may have jumped the gun. Not quite ready. They will make someone happy.

Great looking pups. Are the parents English or American labs? We had to put our female down in September. The family needs another lab soon.

No tags in Arizona for us this year. But it is always nice to look at my antelope from 2020 and my daughter’s from 2016. Considering last year was so dry, my goat on the left looks great.

Definitely not ranting and congratulations on your ND bull. Sounds like a great hunt.........I think I may have written two or three sentences about trophy hunters and guides, I am not sure that is a rant. I wasn't really singling anyone specifically, except for the slobs that leave meat to rot and only take out the antlers. I have only been up there two times. And each time, hunters and guides where ticketed for numerous violations - one of which was wasting meat. I know this happens in every state. Of course not all hunters who shoot 60 inch moose are slobs and not all 60 inch moose have bad meat, but many of the big bulls have to be hung for multiple days. Most non residents do not have that kind of time to wait to butcher an animal. I guess I got more upset with meat rotting on pallets or the meat that was left in the field or meat that was hanging at camps in the rain; not the fact the bulls happen to be 60 plus inches. I know how hard it is to live off of the land for these folks and I am friends with them. So, yeah, seeing this anywhere is upsetting to me. And not being judged in a negative light by others that live there is important to me. Many locals do not get a moose every year. And yes, I did pass on some bulls because I knew the pack out would be very difficult. Everything worked out well for me. I knew I would raise an eyebrow or two by using the term trophy hunter. It was the wrong term. I have passed on many small bucks or bulls in AZ, waiting for a different animal. I suppose that makes me a trophy hunter. I am not sure how old my bull was, but the meat is incredible. Better than the last bull moose I harvested.

I agree. And it would be impossible to do what I did without a local connection. I feel very lucky. Snow machine hunt is too could for me as well. But, as a non resident, I am not eligible to hunt during the winter hunt. Only residents are eligible for that hunt.

About $3000.......Tag is $800. Hunting License is $160. Flights are about $1000. The rest is luggage,/cargo fees, food and fuel costs. We shipped extra food and supplies to some folks up there.

Jets are definitely better in the shallows. But they burn alot of gas. Gas was $6.50 a gallon up there.
-
You have a pretty good idea. We figure this moose weighed about 1300 pounds. Add more after the hide got wet.
-
Agree - love doing my own butchering. Very lucky we had a place to do this.
-
Yes, props. The river gets really shallow in parts. One year we tore up the prop and had to have a friend fly up river and drop us a new prop.
-
Yeah, kind of. It takes alot of time to debone, cut and wrap. And then grind scraps and other meat. We did not time ourselves this year, but one year it took two of us 21 hours to complete the job.

Beautiful buck! Looks dry up there as well.

100%......and I would use my TC Renegade within 100 yards.

On this trip, we came in from Globe and the San Carlos. We cut in way south of the Salt, so we would not have been as far north as the White River. The cable had to be going across the Black.....we used to fish for trout on the East and West forks of the Black and access those spots from the White Mt Apache side. Those spots sure where nice and remote back in the 80s as well.
-
This won't help you, because my only trip into the Black was in 1986 or 1987, just out of high school. I'm curious if anyone knows this spot.......Me and a buddy spent hours, mostly in the dark, driving my 74 Blazer down to what seemed like a really remote part of the river. Every road we turned down was rougher than the previous one. We had a hand drawn map someone gave us. We tossed lures for 3 days and easily caught 60 fish day. We threw our sleeping bags next to the fire and slept each night. Woke up every morning to bear tracks. Saw a few as well. Hiking up and down the river, we saw no one for 3 days. I do remember a steel cable with a basket going across the river at one point. Anyone know this spot? If you don't want to share it, pm me. I would really be curious as to where it is and if it is now a popular, easily accessible spot. Or if it is still remote.
