I have often wondered the same thing. It seems to me like wooden stocks may get dried out and be at risk to cracking.

Wow, this is brutal. Maybe ALYUAZ paid $50 plus a brick and is just getting his money back. What is wrong with that? We have all seen the price of .22s and after shipping I can easily see that this may have been his cost. I thought about buying them also. Except I have a full brick and I will keep looking for a better price. Like someone mentioned, we all can't stand in line and hope we can buy one box at Walmart. I sure don't want to do that in the summer. Nor do I want to drive 50 miles each way to Cabellas or pay for shipping from some other vendor. The bottom line is that Stanley did not have to drive all over town wasting time and money and he now has some 22 ammo to shoot. Most of us who are in our 40s and 50s grew up shooting Remington rounds out of our 22s. They shot pretty good when I was a kid and they still do.....nothing wrong with them in my book. They certainly are not junk.

My daughter wants a new skateboard. I don't want to spend the money for a new long board in case it ends up sitting in the garage unused. Looking for a deck of maybe 28" to 40" and decent size wheels. I thought I would ask in case any of you guys have a son or daughter who was all excited to get one and then the novelty wore off. Seems to happen with alot of things......

Thanks for the information! These spikes could hurt alot of people and animals (both domesticated and wild). Obviously these people don't care about the general public. Why spike an established 2 track? The trail is already there.....idiots. A few years ago, I came across a number of campsites in unit 22 that were littered with nails and screws. Some jokers thought they could give hunters flat tires. I tried to pick alot of them up, but between numerous sites there were hundreds of screws and nails. It was during the HAM hunt and I ran into Game and Fish up there and reported it, not sure what ever happened. You just never know.

This is a bit confusing.......Based on this reply, random numbers are determined from the total number of applications in this entire draw cycle - every species. I thought random numbers were assigned for each species separately based on the number of applications for that species. If 10,000 people put in for sheep, but another 80,000 applied for turkey, javelina, buffalo and deer, there are 90,000 random numbers. A person's sheep application could get number 20,000 even though only 10,000 applied. I might be way off in my thinking.......I was outside working and the heat may have gotten to me.

REMINGTON MOHAWK 600 - .243 - Need Suggestions, Comments and Opinions
Sam replied to deserttacoma84's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
This was my first rifle, given to me on my 9th birthday (I'm 46 now). I would not sell it or alter it. It is actually my 3rd back up rifle and I take it to the range once a year.....I think it is a neat looking rifle and like it original. -
My daughter started with a .270 when she was ten. We used reduced recoil bullets (100 grain) for 5 years. But, she did not practice too much with it at the range. I have a .22 mag that fit very similar to the .270. So, she got used to the scope and gun without the recoil. She shoots the 130 grain now. Last season, she harvested an elk (100 yds) and a nice whitetail (360 yds) - both one shot kills. I also have a .243, but it has more recoil than the reduced recoil .270. And with a .243, you are stuck with a 100 grain bullet. It is nice to be able to go to up to 150 grain with the .270. Since you already have the 30-06 go with the reduced recoil bullets. May be better than buying a new rifle right now. Let him practice alot with a scoped 22.

Voice mail and PM sent - I most likely missed out......but, if you still have it, I live 5 minutes away.

Game and Fish should not have extended the deadline. If people want to wait until the last minute to apply, that is fine, but drive to the office and drop it off. A disclaimer was on the AZGF web site warning people about potential issues with the web site if they wait until the last day. Seems pretty clear to me - wait and take a chance. So, what are we teaching our kids - wait until the last minute and if it doesn't work out you will get a second chance. Not a great message. If your printer breaks and you can't print your paper on time - out of luck. If you try to submit your college application at 12:05 and the deadline was midnight - out of luck. If you wait to register for Chemistry 151 and the class is full - out of luck. If you are 10 minutes late for an interview - most likely out of luck. If you wait to buy tickets to Paul McCartney - out of luck. If you get to that prime water tank at 7am and someone is already there - out of luck. But, this what makes America great - freedom to make choices. Just don't gripe about the poor choices you make.

I need to remember to scroll down to the political section....thanks.

I have been wondering when someone would post something about this absolute irrational decision. Obama has side stepped every question about not getting Congressional approval for such a major decision. He has an agenda, but it sure doesn't involve improving any aspect of the United States or the lives of the men, women, and children that live here. After watching some of the footage from D-Day and interviews with the men who served there, I am humbled by their dedication. Bergdahl wouldn't have lasted 1 second. I am ashamed to see what has happened to America.

Yep - Reduced Recoil Remington Core Lokt is made in 30-06, 308 and .270. My daughter started with the reduced recoil in .270 when she was 10 - no problem at all. She shoots regular loads now. Use these and then change to regular loads when he is ready. They have less recoil than a .243 and are plenty good out to 200 yards.

My 5 year old is thinking about being a vegitarian
Sam replied to naturegirl's topic in The Campfire
The other day I actually watched a few videos from PETA - one narrated by Paul McCartney. These videos will make anyone want to stop eating store bought meat and chicken. The treatment of the animals at these large, corporate feedlots, dairy farms and chicken coops are very inhumane and inexcusable. It needs to be changed and regulated better. I feel sorry for the animals too - and I'm 45. However, I never think about giving up hunting and fishing; and neither does my family. We firmly believe in fair chase and quick, humane kills. Over the years, we have passed on questionable shots. These messages from PETA only encourage me to hunt more, so I do not get tempted to buy meat from unknown sources. I will always support the local ranchers, they do things right. However, corporate America does not. For those who do not hunt, I can see why they would want to become vegetarians. But, if they enjoy eating meat, poultry, or eggs, they should buy local or do some research. If they did, they would feel pretty good about where their food came from. -
Check out this website. I have known the owners for many years. They are retired and live down here in Phoenix and head up to Alaska every May to October. They have a beautiful place along the Kenai River. It would be a great place to spend a few nights away from the crowds. Easy to get to get to also. http://www.jamminsalmonalaska.com/index.htm

Funny how many people think educators have a great deal. Yes, the number of days we work are about 190 - give or take a few depending on the district. But, the time spent planning, grading, writing letters, meeting with parents, attending conferences, sporting, band, and choir events are not computed into our contract. My contract this year was about $50,000. I have a masters degree plus 20 years experience. I am the department chair of counseling, I get a little extra for that. I have to work for 8 days in the summer for free, I get comp days instead, used to get paid for 10. I wrote letters of rec for over 60 kids last year - all at home. They all applied to many colleges. I have 500 plus kids under my case load. Multiple meetings per week keep me out of the office. So, answer emails and writing letters are usually done at home. When i taught, I graded all lab reports and exams at home because my prep hour was used to set up and tear down labs - I had the kids do one lab a week. If I figured out my hourly rate, I may have quit. Thus, I have never figured it out. Starting teachers get about $31,000 or $33,000 per year. There is no way to raise a family on this salary - let alone pay for hunting licenses and tags and gas. I am most likely teaching an online class this summer for a little extra pay - college saving for my kids. But, I would not change professions and I would encourage the right person to join the ranks. There is more to life than money, but, as anyone in education can attest to. Oh, yea, anyone with a college degree can get their teaching classes done in about 18 months...... BTW - we need a good physics teacher, any takers??

Although AIMS allows IEP accommodations, calculators are still not allowed. Both IEPs (special ed) and 504s (non special ed) actually exempt these students from meeting standards on AIMS tests. That means a kid with a 504 or IEP does not have to pass the AIMS to graduate - unless a counselor or special ed teacher specifically states in the IEP or 504 that the student must meet standards on these tests. Unfortunately, many times, these documents are used as a crutch and students are not held accountable for performing at the same level of their peers. IEPs and 504s are important and should be used for qualifying kids, but in the last 20 years, I have often seen them misused. Some kids have disabilities and can not perform at the same level of their peers, even with accommodations and calculators; these are the only kids that should have 504s and IEPs. You guys would be surprised at how many parents request a 504 for their child. I agree with Tony - many of us made it through high school and college without calculators and computers (I had a calculator). It is not about doing algebra, it is about developing higher level thinking skills - which many people in society are lacking.

This question can not be answered. Your directions state - "This is a multiple choice question, read the information below and then make your selection." No selections are given. So, this is an invalid questions and it will not be considered when the tests are graded.

No Correlation......three were mailed to my house and none of us had credit card card hits.
-
This statement was clearly in the regulations. This is an opportunity for any credit card denials to be addressed before any applicant is out of luck. Pretty good jester on the part of Game and Fish, even though it will most likely delay the results. But, we will still find out faster than waiting for the pink cards we used to get in the mail.

Actually, JLG, I just tried to send you a PM - it won't go through. Maybe your message box is full......but, yes I went to Brophy. You either shot trap and skeet there or remember Sneaky......send me a PM if you can.

JLG - I sent you a PM.....

I know how much you like Javelina Keith, so I am sure you were anxiously waiting for this guy to catch up to you. I'm sure he will remember your willingness to help him. Awesome gesture on your part. And yes, that is a pretty good record - 10 seconds of glassing!

Anything we can do to stop the money hungry machine that is AZGFD?
Sam replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
Actually, when public employees, like game and fish employees or teachers, retire, we get about 60% of our salary. Trust me, we will not get paid more than what we make as current employees. Yes, when we turn 65, we will also collect social security. So, we will have state retirement and social security. However, do not forget, the state takes 11% of our pay check. We have no choice. The Feds also take over 35%. And one last thing to remember, state employees are forced to contribute to a retirement plan that may not exist when we reach retirement age - state retirement plans have gone bankrupt in other states. I think I need the money now, to pay for tags and college for my kids, not when I retire. When I worked for the Biology branch of the AZGFD, I drove a very old Chevy and did not get paid much. Like elkhunter said earlier, I get paid more as a high school counselor - which is not much for a guy with a master's degree plus 20 years experience........ -
Start him off with a .270 and shoot reduced recoil bullets by Remington. I put a youth stock on my .270 BDL for my daughter. She started when she was ten. The youth stock still works for her, but she shoots 130 grain now. She practices with the reduced recoil. She killed an elk (100yards) and deer (350 yards) this year - one shot kills for each animal. Plenty of elk and deer have been killed with a .270. He can also shoot 150 grain eventually.

FOR SALE: 7 female (3 Chocolate, 3 Black, and 1 Yellow) Purebred Lab Puppies
Sam replied to Angler4Life's topic in Classified Ads
Great looking dogs. The parents look more like American/Field Labs. American/Field labs tend to have a narrower head/snout and a slender build. Where as English labs are stockier and have a blocky head. I have a yellow American and she is a great dog. For the first few years very hyper, but she is now 4 and has calmed down. We are about to get a black female pup from a friend - both parents are Americans. Thia is a good price for good dogs. I'm sure they won't last.......
