This chart with images will give you an idea how various bullets perform at various velocities http://stevespages.com/jpg/bestbullet.jpg Here is a test with various 264 bullets, but the construction and comparisons with 30 cal will be similar. Scroll towards the bottom to get to where the images of the bullets were reposted. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1481504/Huge_264_Bullet_Test_with_lots Awesome, thanks!

For the other .300 WSM shooters, what kind of exit holes are you seeing @500 yds. I know at 120 (yeah i know it's close) the exit whole was the size of a pie plate, partially because it blew bone out with it, so I understand that this will increase the damage. Also for the OP, I read an article on handloading that I'm still trying to find again that said that the most accurate rounds in the .300wsm were between 150gr and 180gr. I've shot 125gr -180gr out of mine, and I know I wasn't impressed with the 125 (only tried sierras), but I can't speak to anything larger to 180gr.

I shot mine two years ago at 120yds with my .300 wsm with 150gr sierra hand loads. I personally wouldn't go any bigger than that. My coues was broadside and the round took him completely off the ground and flipped him. I'm actually looking into a smaller rifle for coues, after the damage too mine, I feel it really is too much. I'll stick to using it for elk.

Good point, my dad's killed his two elk with a .270 and I killed one of mine with it. I have to say I LOVE my .300 WSM. I was originally looking at the .300WSM or a .270. Never really considered the .300 WM (not for any dislike of the caliber, just didn't really look into them). My decision honestly came down to the fact that my friend was selling a Model 70 for a great price and I'd already shot the gun and liked it a lot (being able to actually use the gun prior to buying was a nice bonus). I do all handloads because the cost is high and they are a pain in the tail to find. If you look at the .300 wsm though consider the grains you want to use, I've read reports that the below 150 and above 180 can get a bit random.

Don't get caught doing that on the refuge down there, they had bad issues with people baiting last year, so they're really looking for it this year.

That 4pt I tried to take during archery season last year sure wasn't Maybe I need try muley's there a little dumber.

I grew up down there and still hunt there (will be down this weekend for archery), and have never had any issues....well technically a BP truck almost ran me over once, but I dont think that counts I do carry my handgun while I'm out, but rarely ever go out by myself anyways, Just stay aware of whats around you. And if you're really worried about your car park near one of the new towers that they're building that has 24hr armed security. Or hire a ninja

You can camp just about anywhere you want in the southern units. there are afew ranchers who have closed off property but for the most part you are good to go. PM sent barony; You can only camp in designated sites on the refuge itself. -
How to stop (or decrease) trail camera theft.

I'm not sure about FS, I know for a fact that you can't leave them on Wildlife Refuges. If LE finds them they'll confiscate them, and you've got a really good likelyhood of getting a littering ticked if they find out who left it. On another note, if you ARE using it in a legal location, has anyone looked into a gps style transponder?.....or a sticker that claims it has a transponder. -

Wondering if I should go off the assumtion that none of the ones that were snagged were in places they aren't allowed to be? Get a old case of one off ebay, and set it out semi hidden, and then hide your real one really well away from it at a different angle, who would use 2 trailcams in one spot. might work, might not, I don't use them so I guess I never really worried about it.
