my anti double comment is based on $ I have spent on them. I had the Zeiss tripler for my 10x56s, then the Swarovski doubler for my 15x56s then a Jim White thinking it would be useful cause I could switch it without unscrewing the eyepiece. I wish I would have done more research before I spent $ on them. I sold the 3x with the Zeiss 10's when I bought the 15s, but they never worked well. I chalked it up to how they attached to the eyepiece, it was pressed into the cup. I figured that since Swaro made such awesome optics their 2x would be the same and it attached more securely. Wrong again. Then I opted for the JW, it wasn't terrible, but it still has the same problems of a 2x. On birder/optic websites you can find good reviews also. Here is one off of opticstalk As you probably already know, optics manufacturers have been making doublers/triplers, called barlow lenses, for telescopes for many years. That is my "only" experience with them, and based upon that experience, as you might already suspect, 2x & 3x gives a degraded image & a much smaller FOV. On top of that, you will be losing alot of available light & the increased magnification will really magnify the "shakes". If it has "any" value in a binocular, it certainly must be extremely limited, based upon the above consequences. I almost forgot, I also experienced 2x doublers when I was into 35mm photography, many years ago. For example, if you have a f8 aperture in a lens, it now becomes a f16, reducing the light transmission significantly. PERHAPS, in a 7x or an 8x binocular, (which is really quite a "low" power to start with), there is greater flexibility at these lower magnifications.

Great shot Clinton, I'm impressed. Now to the real issue, why are we fighting between ourselves. If another hunter follows the laws, and harvests an animal with a legal method of take, we should support him or her. We do not have to hunt in that manner ourselves. I see it on so many forums. Lion/bear hunters that run dogs are upset with opportunity hunters that carry a tag in case they encounter an animal during an outing, or hunters that bash hunters that run dogs. When Nebraska began to allow spear hunting for big game, the Blogosphere erupted with hunters against it. Why give anti hunters more ammo. We do not know the preparation that all hunters put into their hunt. In my opinion, we should support each other, and keep hunting strong.

I called, and got a Nov 8 Camp Navajo Archery Cow tag. I have hunted there 7 or 8 times. I won't put it as a first choice anymore but as a left over it is fine.

My son and nephews had a great time. Food was great. Mentors awesome. My son harvested his first turkey. Nephew didn't pull the trigger, but the amount of adrenalin he experienced was enough to get him hooked. (and part of the reason he didn't harvest, "I can't stop shaking" "Are you cold?" "no, just so excited!") I will work on my turkey hunting so I can mentor. Taking these kids out is better then harvesting my own animals.

The bolt gun is in a Manners stock and I attached the small rail that is in the picture. When I get back home I will post the pics. I used a forstner bit and counter sunk the anchors just like Manners did. I had to use stainless machine screws because that was what was available at my Ace Hardware. Pics updated. -
Friends don't let friends buy doublers.

Are you sure you wouldn't be more comfortable with a 2 1/2 inch barrel?
