  1. yes and depending on how they are manufactured. Most AR15 556 threaded barrels are threaded 1/2x28. Most AR10 barrels and 300blk are threaded 5/8x24. I said most. Some crazy stuff has been done, but these are the standard now. where we come into issues is with custom threaded rifles. Some oddball stuff out there or the smith didnt thread the barrel concentric to the bore. If they are only putting a brake on it, the brake is short, the bullet path typically doesnt intersect with the metal. With a 6 inch or longer suppressor, the threads being concentric to the bore is pretty important, unless you like a bigger hole in an odd location on the end or side of your suppressor. We use alignment rods to check the bullet path. If you have a rifle with a birdcage flash hider, they typically have a crush washer on it for timing it. When you use a suppressor, we do not use those crush washers. We want the can or the muzzle device indexed on the square shoulder of the barrel or on the taper with a tapered mount. to give you a solid answer, taking the flash suppressor off and checking. Pictures might give us an idea.
  2. People ask what is the best..... That depends on many things. How much you are willing to spend. How you are going to use it? How much you are willing to carry. What is available? This goes with everything, cars, guns boots..... I quit chasing the quietest suppressor. I go with manufactures that build quality products that perform well, and they stand behind them and are easy to deal with. Some companies warranty their products even if you make a mistake or have a failure. Others, you are on your own. A all in one can. Some people want to have one can or suppressor and use it on everything. It can be done, however there are big trade offs. A rimfire can should be taken apart and cleaned on a regular basis. They have lead and powder build up inside. They get dirty. You can shoot 22 through 556 and larger cans, but when you shoot the full blast rounds through them you vaporize toxic mess. I avoid aluminum rimfire cans, because you can not dip them in a solution that cleans them easily. I go with titanium or stainless steel. Serviceable rifle cans are an option that you can clean. They have their own issues. When you clean them, you change the can and typically get a point of impact shift (have to adjust scope) Rifle cans. I never clean my muffler or catalytic converter or my rifle cans. They are self cleaning. The attachment point, threads or mounts need to be cleaned, but not the can internals. I always ask how you are planning on using it. If you are bench shooting, backpack hunting, or are a 556 mag dump guy, I can advise you as to which way to look. Steel cans are heavy but can take a beating. Titanium is lightweight and more expensive but cant take tons of heat. I do not use my titanium cans on my machine guns unless I want to see real expensive sparkler.
  3. Great question. The first thing you do is actually buy the suppressor. You pay up front for it, decide how to own it. Decide wisely, you own it. Costs 200 to transfer it to someone else in addition to the paperwork. How to own it is the part where there are options. It is transferred to you from the dealer on a Form 4, there is a 200 dollar tax each time a Form 4 is submitted. So if you buy 2 suppressors, its 2 tax stamps. Finger prints and photos are submitted with the form 4. Personal- You put it in your name. You submit your prints and pic. You have to be present when it is being used. When you die, your heir can do a tax free transfer on a Form 5. Can be confusing to the people that get your stuff. Corporation- Form a corporation. It can own them. I dont see it often and the couple I have seen were people paying another 200 per item to get them out of their corp because they were closing it or selling it with a corp asset. (ie beach house in Rocky Point) Trust- My preferred method, but I dont push it on anyone, just remind them of the conversation....I told you so.... when you buy on a trust. Each trust is written differently but the one I use allows me to have multiple users and actually assign temp members to the trust. But lets go with the Trustee/Responsible person/persons. They have to do fingerprints and submit a passport pic when they buy an item. The tax stamp is paid and the paperwork is submitted. In all cases, a copy is required to be sent to your county LEO. They dont have to approve it, but they get notified. In the olden days, before computers, the only way to send in forms was doing paper forms. You still can do them that way. It takes longer and requires mailing printed forms and actual ink prints and photos. Most people do not do them this way currently, unless buying a NFA item from an individual. (ie Machine gun, destructive device or rare suppressor) E-file The modern way. Your dealer files the form 4 for you electronically, you docusign them. You set up an account with the ATF. This account gives you a personal login and private personal identification number. Once your forms are submitted, the ATF send a notification to have you certify that yes you are buying this item. Once that is done, they process the forms, and once they are approved you and your dealer get an email with a picture of your approved stamp on it. At that point you can go pick up your item. You do a 4473 to have it transferred but they do not normally have to do another background check. That is the basics at this time. Things change.....
  4. I guess I'm the only person interested in a suppressor/nfa thread.

    AR 10 cycling issues

From my experience AR10s can be nightmares. Especially when people are putting them together themselves. There really isn't a "Standard", like there is in AR15s. I've had the best luck when I stick with one manufacturer on a specific project, or bought a factory gun. Biggest problems I have seen are 1. People bought discount parts online or using old inherited parts 2. Mixing "style"- Armalite, DPMS, ect and variations of each 3. Gas blocks- moving or over or under gassed Hope you got your's figured out.

ISO/WTB Leupold Mark 4 with 300 blackout reticle

The subtension is only accurate on a 1st focal plane, with AAC 125s and 220s. I think they were 1800. Kind of expensive for a 1.5-5 power scope. I still want a 3rd.

And their custom shop is still closed. They quit making them because they were expensive and everyone wanted vortex

    Winchester 88 in 243

I have one, sort of.... I have a Sako Finwolf in 243. It is a Winchester 88 built by Sako. Not sure if I would say unfortunately or fortunately, but mine was engraved by Gary Reeder when I got it. It is beautiful and shoots great.

    Suppressor Thoughts?

I also hear good things about them. Personally, I dont know much about them. I do like their design, the blast chamber is the serialized part. Their stated warranty is not as good as other companies. SilencerCo started the "we fix it" policy even when the mistake is the fault of the consumer. Changed the game.

    Suppressor Thoughts?

I use my wolfhunter on my 6 ARC. It is great. OCL is great. Love their return policy. Return Policy. Taken right off their website. "If you are not satisfied with your purchase or purchased the wrong item by mistake, you can return the product and get a refund with a 10% restocking/processing fee applied if Otter Creek Labs sees fit depending on the situation and attitude of the customer. We typically will not charge a 10% restocking fee unless you’re a dick. You can return a product for up to 15 days from the date you received it."

    Suppressor Thoughts?

Everything shared is basically correct. If you are happy with what you have, good for you, thats the goal. I've worked in the NFA realm for 15ish years, owned nfa items even longer. In my opinion, L cans are indeed quieter than S or Ks, however on my hunting rifles the extra length isn't worth it. Especially if I'm putting it on a 24in or longer barrel. I own too many suppressors to comfortably announce without feeling like I need an intervention. I own 2 of the Omega 300. They good cans, 10yr old technology, heavy and not as quiet as the Diligent Defense Enticer S Ti. I own 3 Diligent defense cans, Wolf Hunter, DTF S Ti and the Roadhunter, waiting for their new can, BBC-L 46cal and an enticer S Ti. Otter Creek Labs is one of my favorite companies. They make great suppressors too. I quit chasing the quietest cans. A quality can that performs well, from a company that stands behind it when you screw it up is my requirement now.

    Archery OTC Future?

No hunting 1/4 mile of a permanent water source. OTC archery deer tags, when you harvest a deer, you are put into a 2 or 3 year OTC timeout. You can still put in for draw tags and use your bow if you choose. People will think twice before shooting a dink.

    Crossbow permit repeal

My biggest problem with how this went down is who was asked to be on the focus/working group. Who was on it? Were there any CHAMP or crossbow permit holders involved? The lack of an honest look at advancement in compound bows compared to the scrutiny of crossbows. https://www.outdoorlife.com/hunting/crossbow-vs-compound-bow/ Personally I'd love to be able to hunt with a compound bow again. Before I started having major medical issues, I hunted with a compound bow, and was practicing with a recurve planned to use it on a javelina hunt. Crossbows are heavy, bulky, slow to setup and load and reload, and shoot so loudly. I tried chasing bugles and it was so awkward. Had to have my cousins carry my tripod. Trying to get positioned and setup, then move and try again. The 2 years of harvest data isn't enough to make an informed decision. That was taken from Dr Hardins Dec Commission meeting presentation. With 2 days remaining on the OTC deer hunt, there are 28 units still open. - get your magic crossbows out and slay them. Other ways that we can protect the deer herd. End OTC archery deer tags. Straight draw. Keep OTC archery deer tags, but put a harvest limit on the hunters. If you choose to take a deer, you are prohibited from taking another OTC archery deer for 2 years. You can draw a rifle tag, and use your bow during your 2 year timeout. Kinda in the idea of the Nevada eligibility waiting periods No more sitting water. 1/4 mile rule.

    Crossbow permit repeal

how does having an special needs child make him a spokesperson for people with a disability? it doesn't. No more than me being a disabled veteran or having grown up with a foster sister with sever cerebral palsy, that lived with us for 15 years makes me an expert. I have been dealing with the VA for 20+ years, so my perspective is different. I can get a CHAMP permit, according to the new requirements, so this isn't sour grapes. I will agree that disabled hunters that qualify for the new requirements of the CHAMP permit, will have the same 71 days a year of access to OTC deer tags, however what happens to those who are disabled, but not disabled enough, but still cant pull and hold a bow well enough to use it? They get to put in for draw hunts. So they dont have the same opportunity. A.R.S. 17-101 Guides are required to report violations , that the guide knew of or should have known...... Russ claimed to know outfitters that had people commit fraud. Statistics are never skewed to show a preferred outcome Dr Hardin from Game and Fish gave some statistics in her presentation in Dec. In 2010 there were 895 permanent crossbow permits issued compared to almost 1100 a year now. a 22% increase --Az population in 2010 was 6,407,342 and in 2024 is 7,582,384, an increase of 1,175,042 or an 18.339% increase in population. That is a 14 year window, so the hunting population is aging and with age comes frailty or disability. Information about the permit has spread, people that would have quit bow hunting found a way to legally continue. The 22% increase in applicants is not a shock when you look at the 18.339 % population increase and factor in aging hunters. She also said the 2 years of harvest data isnt statistically defensible by itself. What other factors are in play? You were a part of the focus group, do you have the totals on how many permanent crossbow permits have been issued and are still being used? and how many temporary ones have been issued and are still being used? How many CHAMP permits are there currently and how many do they expect to now qualify? There are 95 any elk CHAMP permits this year. I hope they are ready for the competition for those.

    Crossbow permit repeal

statistics. Dr Hardin, who works for Game and Fish, in December said "the 2 years of harvest data is not statistically defensible". and there are still 30 archery units open.
