Hunting stereotypes- Best thing I've seen in a while.
cactusjack replied to ready2hunt's topic in The Campfire
the noisy partner kills me. A guy I quit hunting with was LOUD. I couldnt enjoy hunting. We are just friends now, and better off. -
I had a M1 Garand blow up on me. It is super scary. Mine happened because it fired out of battery. All that energy took the path of least resistance. I'm sorry your wife had a Kaboom, I hope she recovers and gets back shooting soon. It's crazy but it has been known to happen with 10mm and 40cal pistols without fully supported chambers. And not only with Glock. What generation is your Glock 29? Have you noticed any fired brass that has bulging from where the feed ramp doesn't fully support the case? Was the Blazer ammo brass or aluminum?

this is what I have. It is all AR500 except the hangers. I keep a couple of hardened chain quick links in case someone shoots one. https://www.mrtargetonline.com/shop/armored_gong_stands/

https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/mark-4-lrt-riflescopes/mark-4-lrt-4-5-14x50mm-30mm-m1/ Is the one I was referring to

The Leupold Vx6 4-24x52 is pretty nice. Side focus, illuminated, not super heavy, 24oz. If Im not mistaken, the Mark 4 4.5-14 weighs in a 21oz. The price tag is heavier on the VX6

such a great question. The answers are going to be fun to see. I would say, buy the best you can afford, or even sell a kidney and buy better then you can afford. I was at the Shot Show and held, finger-banged, drooled on, and downright had dirty thoughts about some of the glass I looked through. The one that left me with the sickness the worst is the Zeiss V8 2.8-20x56. It was silly clear, and the 2.8 is small enough not to lose out on close shots, and the 20 far enough for my needs shooting out to 800+. Would more magnification be better? Not for me, but if you were looking for more, the next size up, the 4.8-35x60 should answer your call for seeing the color of your targets eyes. If you can hold it still enough. MOA or MRAD are purely personal preference, IMO. Choose one, get to know it and go with it. FFP is nice, if you are using a BDC (bullet drop comp). It will be accurate at all magnification levels. SFP will need to be at the MAX mag to be accurate or a set mag, depends on the scope. Everybody has their favorites and hates others. I have or have had, Nightforce, Leupold, Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica, Vortex and even, wait for it.... Nikon and Bushnell. I have likes and dislikes about most of them.

Recommendation for a Scope on an AR Style
cactusjack replied to trphyhntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I stand corrected. I revisited the use of a tripler with a red dot. I said it made the dot 6moa. That is not true. It magnifies the target too. So 2 moa is still 2 moa. Shame on my family for 100 years. I was wrong. Nobody pointed it out to me, I just wanted to clarify the mistake. -
if It wasnt pinned and welded I'd have a home for it. Suppressor doesnt fit that one.

Obviously to protect your 6

I bought my dad a scope for his ruger single 6 22. It has since been discontinued. It fell out of my safe when a shelf clip gave way. I sent it in to Bushnell and told them how it was dropped. The front lens was not broken, but the scope wouldnt hold zero. I got a letter today telling me that because it was dropped, the limited lifetime warranty was voided. They would sell me a newer model at a discounted rate. I decided to call and tell them not to worry about it, I wouldn't buy another Bushnell, I'd invest in products from companies that valued my business. I asked him how big of a hit their business has taken because vortex, hawke and swift all offer no fault warranties. He said it has been tough and as of 2016, Bushnell was putting a no fault warranty on their Trophy and higher grade scopes. Vortex driven change. He also told me, that my scope would now be covered and the new model would be on its way, my scope slipped through before the new policy had been fully implemented. I love vortex more and more each day, they are changing an industry. I am going to Shot Show next week and can't wait to see all the new optics.

so much depends on the price point you are comfortable with. Manfrotto carbon with a pan head or the outdoorsmans with pan head.

Winchester 88s are awesome lever guns. Smooth linkage. Id jump on this, but I have 2 already, and a Sako copy, Finnwolf, in 243. Good luck on the sale.

The scope arrived. Now to mount it back on my Stainless Single Six. Probably will sight it in with the Magnum cylinder. -

I love my Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 and my Razor HD 2 1-6 on my ARs. Im excited to see the new 1-8 that Burris is bringing out. Being illuminated, the 1 power, basically makes it a red dot, and with a Switchview on it, you can get up to 6 quickly, without moving your head. On my AR's that I want for longer range, but not varmint calling, I have 3.5-10 or 2-10s. On my SBRs I have Aimpoint T1 Micros and Aimpoint PRO red dots. They mate with magnifiers but I'm not a fan. The 2moa dot, is a 6moa dot with the magnifier. Fine if you are shooting steel or Minute of Terrorist, but not precise enough for hunting. -
Ive been getting the updates from Shot Show and this one was interesting. Vortex Razor HD AMG, made entirely in USA. The one they released is the 6-24x50. They look great. Pricey, but great. List is 3399.00, which puts them in the same range as Schmidt Bender and Hensoldt and USO. Im not looking at buying one, but it is interesting to see them throw their hat in the ring. Im going to Shot on Thurs and Fri. I cant wait to check them out. Let the bashing of Vortex begin.

I'm not a pro, but I did fondle it for about 20 min. The reps said the first batch is already sold. It was really nice. I'm wishing it was being made in 4x16.
