such a nice setup. Now go rent that Quigley Down Under video and learn how to shoot it. With that bad boy 800 yards should be a chip shot.

Light Weight Deer Gun?
cactusjack replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have worked in a couple of gun shops over the years and see all types of shooters/hunters. There are those that know everything because its what their dad and grandpa told them or they read it on a website. There are some that have a general idea of what they want but are wanting to get the advice from some other shooters, that have already spent their way into what they now shoot. They do not want to reinvent the wheel. We also get some legitimate long range shooter/snipers. I worked with a guy that was the Commandant of the Army Sniper School. He was a pretty good reference. I like the rule of thumb, "if you dont have anything nice to say, at least don't be a douche." -

Nimrod was the hunter. I believe he asked about equipment, not what is required. -

Before you spend a bunch of $ on a lightweight shoulder breaker, see if one of your buddies has one you can try out. Many a good shooter has been ruined by a flinch. 4 other things I learned. First thing: A fluted steel barrel stays laminated for a long, long time. My Christensen 300Ultramag barrel came unlaminated. They replaced it, but it made me think longer term. Second thing: cheap rings are light, but they wont always hold up to the abuse a lightweight rifle throws at them. Third thing:optics- you can not afford cheap optics. More magnification isn't always better. I am still a fan of the Leupold VX3 LR 6.5-20x50 side focus scopes. Good eye relief, lightweight compared to many others, and really good glass and proven to be reliable. They have the Varmint Reticle if you want BDC, however learn to use the turret. Dial in ballistic yardage. Forth thing: Get it threaded and spend the $ on a suppressor. Takes away as much recoil as a brake, but without making yours and others around you, ear drums bleed. My rifles I have suppressed shoot better groups now also. It could be that I don't jump like a scared kid anymore, but I think it changes the harmonics enough to tame it. -

Worth buying a pellet gun or hold out for a shotgun?
cactusjack replied to cwnova's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
you could find a single shot 20 or 12 for around 150 or less. That would be a good start. H&R Topper or an old Iver Johnson single shot would be great. -

Or sell it to one of us drooling fools.....

right? I doubt there is any collusion or fraud present here. I think it is just plain lack of attention to detail, government SOP.

My only bitch, that I am going to put here, is that we are held to a higher standard and responsible for our actions. We are the customers, they are the provider of the service. We make a mistake, ie, misunderstanding with the girl at Walmart that sold you a resident license because you have a AZ Drivers license, wrong species, wrong sex, wrong turn and you end up in the wrong area,.... There are many others, read the monthly release of people who cant hunt for 1 to 3 to 5 years. If they make a mistake, it is human error or IT complications, so sorry... We expected to do our due diligence but they are exempt. We are paying them to do a job, attention to detail is required. I'm a manager at my company. If my guys make a mistake, its ultimately my fault. I either didn't supervise them or train them well enough. My customers do not care why I failed them, they will go elsewhere if I do not resolve the problem. Seems to be the opposite here. Bitch session put on pause...
