109" for the first buck and... 113" for the second buck.

As long as we are talking about shirt options, I have found that when I'm backpacking, a higher neck line, like a turtleneck, keeps my neck warm, twigfree, and protected from Anything with straps that wants to rub my neck raw ie my pack, binos, hand calls, etc. Would love to have a few, especially if camo colors are available.

WT Buck Water Use and Summer Activity
AntlerObsession replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
How much does the monsoon season effect water availability come archery season? Say the last heavy rains come through July 31st. Will there be enough water in an area 3 weeks later that bucks won't have to hit the tanks? -

Where are you located?

Where is your cabin? We have a cabin in Greer a stones throw from Tinstar inn (Circle B ). I have seen everything in that little Colorado river valley, but never a wolf. There was a handful living North of Eagar off of Water Canyon Road. A little further East but that was even too close for comfort. Crazy to think how quickly they are moving west.

I've never seen a cub before. So cute and cuddly looking! I'd be tempted to take it home!

Did you get drawn for the trophy pack rat hunt this year? He's definitely a shooter!

I know a photographer who has done a stellar job shooting products for the company I work for. He's not the cheapest or the most expensive but he does do a great job. He is up here in the valley, but give him a call wherever you're at. His name is Matt Priestley, and his number is 602.301.7584. You can also email him at mattpriestley@gmail.com. Let him know Adam Clarkson sent you.

Have others seen that seeps tend to run together, along a subterranean stream as it were? Where there is one, will there be more? Is there plenty of water in the area, tanks, streams or otherwise, and its almost as the the ground can't hold all of it at high precipitation seasons, and dry up in the dry times, or is there a more reliable source of subterranean water, like a water table? I'm sure there are instances of both, but what tendencies to seeps have?
-
That's great! Ingenious method of identifying a seep. Does it usually have a flat shelf of sorts that catches the water? Is the source sandy, rocky, sandy with a rocky bed? I am still interested in learning what characteristics make a seep possible BeSIdEs the existence of water! :b

I'm starting to see a trend. I know my wife sees approximately 9x as much wildlife as I do.
-
Is the difference more than just one having enough water to flow? Is a seep an area where the water table surfaces, and a spring is an outlet for water that was on the surface at one time that soaked in, and then resurfaces? IDK.

Backpack hunting for coues
AntlerObsession replied to mason a's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
+1. I heard a story about a guy glassing from a high road with his high power spotting scope for hours and hours. He glassed finger after finger, for 2 days. On the last afternoon, him and a buddy starting rolling rocks off the side of the road just for the heck of it (I wrote in h e c k), and up jumps a big 120" buck that had been hanging out just below them. The only hillside in that whole country that hadn't been glassed was the one just below the road, and that d a n g buck knew it. -

Never been made of money, and enough rocks jump out right as I'm shooting my arrows, that I went with G5® Outdoors Striker™ Fixed-Blade Broadheads. Affordable, replaceable blades, and points I can take a honing stone to if the need arises. Simple, yet effective. -
My wife is due in 3 weeks, but I do have to get up there once before the baby's born, because it for sure isn't happening after the baby is here! Sounds like a blast!

Backpack hunting for coues
AntlerObsession replied to mason a's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Depends on so much. If I don't know an area very well, I'll go for 4 days and repack every morning, keeping all my stuff with me. This allows me to do a huge loop and see everything an area (6-8 sq. miles) has to offer(water, sign, accessibility). If I know an area and I'm going to be at base for 3 whole days, I'll go as far as I need to hit my favorite 2-3 glassing spots in 2 days, leaving the 3rd day for whichever is jumping at the time. The furthest I've gone to base is 3 miles with a 1800 ft. change. Would I go 6 miles and up 3000 if it meant a 120"+ buck? In a heartbeat!!! But I agree there are giants watching you turn off the highway onto that 10 mile 2-track!! -
The remains were scattered enough (10' radius) that it was impossible to tell. There were no vertebrae attached to the skull. If coyotes did the scattering, is it safe to say it wasnt a Cat?
-
If I had an old trail cam, I'm sure your experience and advice in that awesome area would be worth it! But alas . . . I did want to share this skull I found in that area, and wanted to get opinions on whether this guy froze, got eaten or got old. I was on a scouting activity camping on top of the Rim and got up early for a walk and came across this guy. I found him in April, and he had probably been down since January or so. There must have been 3 or 4 feet of snow for extended periods of time in January and I cant picture whitetail hanging out all winter in that. Is the cold what killed him? Would whitetail move down elevations in winter if there was too much snow? Just some ?'s I've had.

I totally agree! If they want to be the "center" of attention, let them. I would pay a lot for a target that has me zeroing in on Waddell's nose! Or how about someone like Jay Leno's chin? The "center" of attention, aka my target, is exactly where these people should be! But not in a way that insults my intelligence by assuming I would buy a product just because their face is advertising it. DISCLAIMER: THOUGH TEMPTED, I HAVE NEVER, NOR WILL EVER, SHOOT ANYBODY IN THE FACE. I'll leave that to Mr. Cheney. Double-lung shot on the other hand . . .

It took a little while for me to figure out what "L.A." meant, too. I thought,"This is the best essay from Los Angeles I've ever read. . . from kids or adults!!" Fabulous work!!

Might have been a fantail...dont know if they still recognize this subspecies anymore. Fantail was never a subspecies. It was just a local name for a small Coues deer with a small basket rack. The Fantail may not be recognized as an official subspecies, but the 2 I have seen had as much or more difference from Coues than Coues do from Texas WT, or the other 9 Mexican subspecies.
