My father-in-law has stripped and vaned his arrows for years, has 3 or 4 different jigs, etc. He tried those shrink wrap quick-fletch vanes and now says he'll never go back. Too quick, too perfect, every time. His $.02.

blueprint and rebarrel a 700
AntlerObsession replied to DesertBull's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Steve Crooks has been referred to me by several respectable outdoorsmen, including all the guys at Bear Mountain Sports in Mesa. He does all their custom rifle work. I am currently working with him on my Rem 700 7mm mag, bedding it and putting on a custom barrel. He wows me every time I go over there. Give him a call and see if he can't help you out. 480.491.1770. He's off of Dobson and Elliot. -
Is that price for a tanned Pelt, or just stretched? What kind of prep work is done on those furs?

Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country

Just like optics, and everything else hunting, you get what you pay for. IMHO. -
I think its people being generous with their tapes, but I also think optics and rifles have extended our awareness of animals beyond their capacity to sense our presence and move over the next hill.

And I've been blaming those dang teenagers for eating my pumpkins!

I dare you to post it! (i haven't seen it yet) -
No way! Revaning without stripping first is such a rookie mistake! If you haven't ever tried it, I can tell you it changes the whole experience!

That's great! How have you helped your kids to learn to hold still? My oldest is 4 1/2, and I'm excited to get out there with him ASAP. Awesome! -

As impressive tine length as I have ever seen. What an awesome buck! Why ruin how magnificent he is by putting a number on him? -
131 lbs.

Oh yeah! Hit up the pizza buffet @ Cici's and then to Joanns for fabric. Happy kids, Happy wife... Happy Life!

If that is a skunk, that is sweet coloration. But it looks as though it is up in the bush, off the ground. Could it be a bird, or a bat with blurred wing movement?

This debate has been raging for thousands of years... Does size matter? As for me, a 380" bull would make me weep with gratitude to the hunting gods as I steadied my crosshairs on his sweet spot!

That story, and others like it, makes my heart hurt. Mercy, in all its forms, is a learned skill that many of us are ill-prepared to give when required. Sorry for waxing so philosophical!

Hardly a more inspiring sight, reminiscent of simpler times when buffalo were present throughout the west.

We have an archery tag in the family, so we're going to be up there starting Thurs. I'm taking notes and will definitely post what I see(and hear!) this weekend. Plenty of pics, for sure!!! Good luck to all this opening weekend!

180+ Coues Sheds --- You better sit down before you look!
AntlerObsession replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Shed Hunting
i think you're right. was wondering if so the sheds in the epperson/ellsworth collection has to be at least a 3 year old deer, now 2 or 3 more years have gone bye. at what point will the buck regress with old age? That may be the question of the year... If he isn't already regressing, how many years is he going to be maintaining this size? What factors contributed to him reaching that size? Can those be repeated? Could he be even bigger this year with all the rain we've received? Are his genetics evident in the deer population, or is his crazy size due to the fact that he doesn't waste his energy on the rut? I've heard of that happening with elk and mule deer; does that happen with Coues? Wouldn't that be tragedy, not passing his genetics on!! -
Are those from the same area as the panorama in your signature? Those colors are absolutely ... I don't even know how to describe it. Probably just as pretty as God intended them to be.

+1. I'd pull a Nancy Kerrigan on him if I were in your shoes! I don't care what you did to me. If I had any idea where he was at, I'd find a way to be there: crutches, wheelchair, dragging myself the whole way... nothing would stop me!
