My new Bowtech Destroyer 350

Love the banner almost as much as the bow! -
He used just about every thing you can think of! Here is a link for the electronic caller he uses, that one of his students, Mark Healy, has commercialized. I'd love to have one. I'd hate to have to carry it very far! http://www.wildlifetech.com/pages/product.html

I wish I could have made it! When is his book suppose to be out? What kind of lion vocalizations is he using most of the time is it like a mt lion in heat? I read through his website and I don't really get what those wt callers can do that no other caller can do and why it is so critical? Anybody get that? There are different scenarios that determine which call might work better, but the most important thing from what I understood is to respond to the lion vocalizations with the same vocalization. As for the call, I think sheer volume is vital, without compromising clarity. His lowest volume setting, 1 of 6 levels, was about as loud as my Spitfires highest! He turns it on at 6, and never moves it! Crazy, I know!

I went and had an absolute blast! He did a great job presenting decades of experience in a few hours! I have like 4 pages of notes, and that was only the last half, after I realized I needed to record every nugget of wisdom. Can't wait for the book he's coming out with!

I know, I know. Why Morenci, other than working for the mine? The Coues, The Cats, and the Coyotes! Im excited for the opportunities, and wanted to ask if there were any Gila Valley hunters on here. Wanting to get started on calling and trapping without stepping on toes, you know, horning in on anyone's territory. Any places to avoid? Is there a Safford predator hunting club? Ive hunted the eastern side of 31 and know of 4 coyotes that won't be taken any fawns this year, but I'm not familiar with the areas north of Safford. Any hints would be more than appreciated! P.S. I'm game for teaming up on a Sat. morning to neutralize some predators if anyone else is up to it.

There was that huge snowstorm over New Years that put down some crazy snow. The first 12 inches hit the ground a few minutes before I got to Salt River Canyon... that was fun. The next 12" hit 2 hours into my archery hunt weekend. I had 5" of snow on my pack when I finally got back to the truck. Wouldn't have it any other way!

Trapping the Gila Valley.

Thanks to everyone posting and making us feel welcome! We got settled and are loving the town, the people, and the Scenery! We look forward to familiarize ourselves with this beautiful area! Already drove the Black Hills Scenic Byway and loved it! Can't wait to see more! -
I love these thought provoking threads you create, Biker. My thoughts have changed on this in the past few years, the biggest thing being that I now have 3 little ones under 5 years old. A few years ago I would have said leave the cat(s) be, allow them to move on, or remove them if absolutely necessary. Now that I have my own to look after, there is no way in heck I'm going to let them outside with a lion anywhere near. Every cat that is comfortable living in close proximity to humans is already too comfortable, and we are asking for an attack by "waiting for signs of aggression." It may be too late. I carry a pistol when I'm out hunting, hiking, camping, on the off-chance there is a cat in the area. If I know there is a cat in my neighborhood, what are my options? Sure, I can carry a weapon but what about my wife's options? My kids'? Are they gonna carry protection to and from school? 100 cats moved, or even euthanized, isn't worth one child being attacked. Just my "protective dad" opinion.

Colorado has OTC rifle bull tags in quite a few units, with some good country in the SW part, around Durango. The hunts start mid-October and go through the first week of November. You can also by a OTC rifle bear tag for the same seasons just in case!

What size binos does it NOT fit? What size would it fit?

A sweet, red Ford F150 FX4 was rolling through the Sonic Drive thru with The Sticker. I was rolling through 2 spots behind you in a burnt amber F250 Crewcab. Go Elks!!!

Hey Calvin is my cousin... in-law, I guess. Danny Austin is my father-in-law. Calvin's cat was all beat up, so there has to be a few more in there that were given him a hard time. It looked like it had lost at least a few fights! Walked in just a few minutes after Cal, on the same trail he had come in on too! A little creepy...

Better not pass that offer up!!!! Great country down there, hope the move is good for you. Not that is has anything to do with hunting, but I know they have a bunch of tough kids wrestling for them on their high school team. Good luck. I plan on talking to the wrestling coach in Safford! I wrestled in high school, and want to help out wherever I can with the local teams! Love to help toughen up these young men! Are you involved in your local wrestling programs? -
CO Mule Deer Vouchers- GMU 65 and 74
AntlerObsession replied to AntlerObsession's topic in Hunt Swaps
We have a number of tag applications pending, but we are expecting at least one voucher per season in unit 74, based on draw odds from last year, and one voucher per season, minus 4th rifle, in unit 65. We will know exactly which tags we draw late May, early June, but we have already started taking deposits, first come first serve. -
We have a handful of Colorado mule deer vouchers for GMU 65, and GMU 74, north of Durango. We will have a few archery tags, a couple muzzleloader, and a handful of 2nd and 3rd Rifle hunts. Bull elk tags are over the counter, which provides a unique opportunity to hunt both species at the same time. If anyone is interested, pm me and I can give you more details. If you're interested in a swap, we are mostly interested in Mexico Coues hunts, or quality gear. Thanks for looking!

How much would it be to do a pickup truck... in the snakeskin? :b Jeff, how much materials/cost would it take to do a REM 700 stock, tripod, and would you ever do a barrel/action, spotting scope or binoculars with it?

I've run my Spitfire for about 20 calls, with just the 4 AA batteries, and I still wasn't getting a low batt signal. Wasn't till my kids got into my stuff and left it on that I had to switch the batteries. I always keep an extra set on me anyway. Extra batteries are like potato guns: Better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.

If I wasn't voting for the goofy, pasty, duck-footed white kid from BYU for player of the year, Williams would get my vote. That kids a stud.

Just a quick story to illustrate how tough it is to ranch with hunters accessing your grazing land. My buddy owns a ranch up by the Salt River, runs cattle all along the river, but has to walk a fine line with reservation land, avoiding overgrazing and not losing his shirt. Last December a hunter legally accessed his lease and, did his thing, and forgot to shut one gate on his way out. It took 2 hours for 100+ cattle to slip through into land they shouldn't have been on, causing all sorts of problems, let alone the hundreds of hours it took to move them back into the proper area. It's one thing when a hunter/trespasser is malicious and vandalizes, but there are so many things we hunters don't quite grasp when it comes to ranch management, we can cause problems without even meaning to.
