Hello kshunter Hunting north of Lake Roberts is good for Desert Muleys we don't have the Rock Mountain persuation here in the south. You probably won't see too many Coues deer below 7000' but there are a few lurking around. Good Luck on your hunt. My son and I are headed to Ozbourne KS in late November to hunt BIG Whiteys and some yard birds.

I grew up in SWNM and everyone from here would call that an eight point. Having hunted with alot of AZ guys, I've started calling that a 3 point. In Kansas that's a 4 by 4, in Utah thats a 4 point buck. Being a guide you have to adapt to the terminology of the client or they could pass on a giant three point. When I talk with my AZ buddies I say what they understand, when I talk with my cousins, uncles ECT...I adapted to thier understanding... SOOOO....if i'm hunting in AZ that's a three point. If i'm hunting in NM that's an eight point, if I'm in KS that's a 4 by 4, Whew...I think I just confused myself

Here's some more information...i've gotten alot of requests for more info... It's for muzzleloader only, you can pick either 10-17/10-21 or 10-24/10/28. Unit wide The rancher will also let you hunt his land of course, 100,000 acres. He'll probably help with information on where the Elk are, And I think you can work out lodging with him for real cheap.

I've used the same Remington model 700 30.06 for over 30 years now. The only load i've ever hunted with is: 56.0 grains IMR 4350 Sierra 150grain spbt Muzzle velocity is right at 2800fps 1/2 groups at 100yards I have never hunted with a store bought bullet and have made shots in excess of 600 yards with this load. I've reloaded rounds for family and friends and it has shot very good groups in different rifles. See if your rifle likes this load The trick is finding IMR 4350, I only have 17lbs of the stuff myself God Luck

Not going to find too many Coues in the Reserve area. I have seen a couple as high as Sheep Basin but not enough that I would hunt them. The southern end of 16 is where you'll find the largest poputation of Coues.
