Even more NM coues.
crazyaboutcoues replied to bullwidgeon's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Bret.. it wasn't me, I was hunting way south of your area for carp. I just know what goes on in that area during the general hunt. I don't think you guys will have any problems with our locals hunting the way we do. And I hunt Coues with a bow so you won't have to worry about me being in there during the hunts. Next year we will go to a draw for all the deer hunts. I personally think it's a good thing. I might hurt business but I think it will improve opportunity to see more bucks. -
Even more NM coues.

Great job Brett, I recognize that nice two point. I had a client hunting the same area. I agree that there is an abundance of Beer drinking road hunters especially the one in the dune buggy . But I don't think they get out and glass like some of the die hards. Congradulations again -

Way to go Austin and Scotty. Man I can't believe how much Austin has grown up. I remember just two years ago, when we took our boys together how little they were. We need to cherish these moments because before you know it they've grown up. Shiras - They were in Unit 23

Unit 28 Early Hunt (Success Photos)

Cool pix Scott, I bet they were real happy with those bucks. I would say that three point would be close to 100". Let me know how your scouting trip to NM goes, and where you'll be camping so I can swing by. I'll be with my two boys in 23 for the NM opener. -

Thanks Scott....We really had a great time. How did your boy do this year? Justin Otero has the late archery hunt in January. I'm sure he'll have plenty of opportunities. -
CB1's Sons NM Buck

We saw six Coues bucks on Saturday, three of them were 100"+ bucks running together. We just couldn't get dialed in on them before they got out of range. I got to the top of the ridge over looking the saddle before Bob and Cole. Seems like Bobs desk job has taken it's tole he he Anyway I got to the top of the ridge and immediately saw one of the three bucks feeding at 100 yards straight down below us. I looked back for Cole and motioned him up. We tried to get Cole set up on a giant rock over looking the bucks. Unfortunatley I stepped on some twigs which alerted the buck. He flagged and started quickly walking away. Then the other two bucks came out just behind him. One of them had a non-typical antler on his left side. Cole tried to get comfortable for a shot but in the mean time the bucks kept moving away, 200 yards they stop for about 10 seconds, Cole asks me "which one do I shoot"? I told him IT DOESN'T MATTER. They started moving again and didn't ever stop for a good shot. Cole made a good decision by not taking the shot, he said all he could see was his "BUTT" After our hearts slowed down to about 130 bpm we started glassing the saddle looking for other opportunities. We glass up a small two point, and later that day we passed on a small 3 point. We headed back to camp where grampa G was waiting for us. We decided to leave that area alone and try to find a good Muley that evening. About 4:00 we headed out to a good Mule deer area. We set up Grandpa G on a ridge with Bobs 15's and then went on our way. About an hour into our hike we glassed up a 150 class muley bedded down in the oak brush. we tried circling him but some how he gave us the slip. Day two had us climbing the same ridge we did the morning before. We glassed the same saddle and found his buck sunning himself at 378 yards. I quickly scanned the area to see if those bigger bucks were around. NO DICE. So we set up Cole on the same huge boulder. The buck started moving to our left when Cole found him in the scope. Bob asks quietly " How far?" I told him "350". I was watching the whole thing through my 15s. BOOOM!! HE'S HIT, HE'S HIT. I followed him in the nocks until he bed down under a tree and expired. Awsome hunt!! Thanks Bob for letting me be a part of coles first buck. THE END -
Here's a link the NM game and fish website: http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/ The dealine to apply is usually mid April.

Buck Shot Out of My Yard!!!
crazyaboutcoues replied to CouesSlayer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Yeah J- I remember that. Unreal -
You'll want to stay north of Bill Evan Lake unless you have a Burro MT tag. There is some BLM and State land South of Bill Evans but not very much.

Buck Shot Out of My Yard!!!

Where in Silver City do you live. I'll Guess Little Walnut Road or Cottage San road. It's pretty sad to know guys hunt these roads. I know a guy that went to court because his wife killed a buck on someones drive way in Little Walnut, he came to work all proud of this buck. I asked him where they killed it and he wasn't embarrassed to say they took it in someones front yard. Unfortunatley he was let off the hook no fines no nothing. Pretty freaking Sad -
Unit 27 is also a good Unit although there is alot of private land. The Burros in 23 is the best Unit in NM. JMO

Unit 23 has not been known for HUGE Coues, but I know of plenty that were taken around the 100" mark. Here's a pic of one taken last year by Bullwidgeon's bunch last year in 23. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...ues/HCCoues.jpg

It's usually pretty slow here not to many dedicated Coues hunters in NM. have you been up to White rock? That's usually a good place for Coues in 23.
-
Yeah I visit at leat twice a day. Been chasing Coues with my stick flinger for almost week now. It's been pretty hot and I havn't had any good bucks under my tree. I'll be headed to elk camp in 15 for the second hunt. Have you been out in NM?

Is this a good unit for Muzzleloader Muledeer? My Buddy drew this Tag. Any thoughts?
-
It was 35A, the hunts in December for Muledeer.
-
I think he said 35B can't remember . I think we'll plan a trip down there to check it out. We just need a basic info on where to come in from. We live in Silver City. It looks like we can drop down through Bensen from I-10. Thanks for your replys, keep em coming
