crazyaboutcoues replied to bowhunter4life's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
We went to San Carlos Lake this last weekend...very, very poor. No Crappie, No Bass, 1 three pound channel. The air temp was 90 degrees. What's happened to the famous San Carlos Crappie? -
If the guy you met had a pink mini-skirt , then it was Allen.

Coues Or Muledeer

Two of the three choices were Archery Coues. -
I'm not Jeff, but I can probably help you out. You can pm me if you'd like.

We went out yesterday and found two different groups. Unfortunatly we came home empty. One hunter missed about a 120 yard shot. Our next opportunity had the pigs coming in to the hunters from 200 yards to about 10 feet. For some reason there was some misscommunication, one hunter was waiting for the other shoot and vise-versa. They had to go back home after a few hours of hunting they had to take care of some business back home. It was an awesome morning for hunting. We had about three inches of fresh snow no wind and cloud cover. About 12:00pm is when the wind hit an made it a little miserable. I won't be able to go out this weekend either, but if you want to head out after work for a couple of hours we might get lucky.

Another Burro Buck
crazyaboutcoues replied to crazyaboutcoues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Jonathon missed a 110 class buck and passed up several 80" bucks. Tony told me they had a blast. Justin on the other hand took a really nice muley. -
This buck was taken by one of my clients in the Burro Mts. It was his first Coues Buck ever taken. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...oues/DRbuck.jpg

OW I sent you a couple of pix and the contact info for Brian. Did you get them? EH...I was just joking about looking better than the Cali boys..that's why I posted the smiley -
Sounds like some tough luck there, Doc. Didn't have that much luck myself on my hunt, I found a muledeer haven but the coues bucks were MIA. Are you a foot DR in Silver City? Your name actually came up at our deer camp. My buddy said he knows a foot doc by the name of Gough. Could be coincidental.

66 pound sow holy moly what do you guys feed them things in AZ. We've had Javelina contest for years and the biggest boar ever weight was 46 pounds.

It's been rough....I haven't seen a coues deer yet, I think the muleys pushed them out of the country . Seen 13 muledeer bucks...three I could have taken, but still waiting for the gray ghost to appear . I did witness something kinda cool... two huge muleys brawl something fierce...if there would have been a shot opportunity at the big four point i would have taken it. We're headed back tomorrow night for the last part of the hunt. It's suppose to snow tonight
-
That's pretty cool CHD...i've lived in Silver all my live and I love it. Good luck on your hunt Kevin...try checking out Military road up by the cliff dwellings. That used to be one of my old haunts when i hunted muleys.
-
Now that's a sweet looking buck...I would definetly drop the hammer...Congrats
-
Kevin....the muledeer rut is at it's tail end, but the big boys are definetly with the does, so it should be fun Coues deer rut has just begun for us...I have the Privilege to work at the copper mine right next to the burro mts...so I just happen to keep an eye on the local couesys . Last week the coues does were still lonley...this week I have seen small bucks close to the does. I've heard that the mimbres area got alot of rain....most of the creeks are going to be running. Hope you have 4 wheel drive. The roads to Wall lake are going to be either snowpacked or very sloppy from the mud. You should be ok though, depending on how far up your going. Where are you going to be camped? Maybe I can get more specific info for you. J- and I are ready to hit the wilderness, should be awsome with the snow we got last night. But it's going to be cold

crazyaboutcoues replied to crazyaboutcoues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Thanks guys......we really need it to snow, it's been raining for two days now. I'll take plenty of pix... -
The NM archery hunt is finally at hand... After spending many an hour/days/weeks/months out in the field scouting, finding the right place to break the 100" mark a bow and arrow. Most of us dream of a buck like this at 400 yards, I need one at less than 40.... I can't believe it's finally here...hopefully the deer gods will be with us

If you guys notice Craig is using the ol' Western Walking Stick.

Looking for my late grandads hunting buddy?
crazyaboutcoues replied to gonhntn's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I work at Phelps Dodge Tyrone where Ron used to work, I also went to school with his son. I've never heard of Jimmy Portillo but I can ask the ol' timers if they know him. What is your Grandads name? I probably knew him, I've worked here for 17 years now.
