Yep the buck was still in velvet. All the other bucks we saw were hard horned. My buddy killed a toad in 22 yesterday. I'll have the pix soon!!! -
Good job Nathan Did you help on the Bull hunt in 16E? I was wondering how they did.

Scott...tell Steve senior that his kids out did him right out of the shoot hehe awesome muley and a very respectable ghost. Congradulations Steve jr and Stephanie. How did Fred do on his elk hunt?

Kevin...yes gutting an Oryx was a new experience for me. I'm still trying to get the blood out of my ears, that's right out of my ears. Imagine the stomach protruding out of the entire incision at least ten inches, then trying to get an arm on each side and just start whacking away. I was laying my head on the stomach during most of the gutting. seems kinda funny now but when it was happening I was ready to start taking ribs apart. Glad to here your friends wife got one especially what they had to go thru. I wonder how many hunters went home empty handed.

Thanks Guys It was the once in a lifetime hunt in Rhodes canyon. It took eight years for me to draw the tag. The Bull measured 33 1/4" on one side and 32 3/4" on the other. This is by no means a slam dunk any more. The storys about driving around the corner seeing one getting off and shooting no longer applies. These guys see your truck and GONE!!!!! It rained most of the day so they were really hard to locate. I saw 8 Oryx total on my hunt. That's glassing with the 15's off high points. We finally found this guy with his girl friend exacly 1 mile from our glassing point. I left the truck at 5:00pm and didn't get to them until 6:15. I walk thru the nastiest mud boggs most of the way and my legs just about gave out. I shot him with 7 minuets of shooting light. Gutting this animal was an experience in itself.

Awesome pic Sundevil, looks like you have them figured out. Looks like Unit 23. I can think of two areas that have this kind of country, But i'll keep that to myself. Could be unit 27 too? Good luck on your hunt.

Hijo De la Chingada!!!!!!! Now that's what i'm talking about.

I've never been much of a shed hunter, but for some reason this year I'm taking prisoners. Found these this past weekend. The one on the right measures 39 and change. The one on the left has great mass. I think this guy was on his last days. any way enjoy. I'll add a pic of a 100+ coues buck that was camera shy. I waited for him for about thirty minuets to show his rack. He's four on one side and three on the other. This is the best I could get. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...dtsb-day020.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...dtsb-day010.jpg Some NM coues country http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...dtsb-day016.jpg

Yeah he told me that when we spoke about a month ago. That's all he could talk about. We talked about sabots, conicals, powers, why he doesn't use in-lines. He was utterly pumped about drawing that tag. Sounded to me like he had to get off the phone to start packing, and that was a month ago. He's going to have an awesome hunt, are you going to help him?
-
I don't know Scott, Austins getting to be a pretty big fellow. He might put the smack down on you, then take the monster. hehe Has Fred said anything about the Western Walking Sticks?
-
Just got back from the trek. Lots and lots of sign. Didn't find any sheds, but I did scare the living daylights out of a Coues doe that was crashed on a ridge. It was pretty funny I wasn't ten yards from this doe when she bailed. Tried to get a pic but my camera was in my back pack i didn't want to make any noise. Man this is going to be an awesome hunt come January. I'm setting the bar at 100". I might end up going home with Tag soup. But oh well.
-
I think your on the right track Scotty. Set that Trail cam up this way you'll know for sure. "Remember Preparation an opportunity = Luck" Right Nathan? Scott is this NM or AZ?
-
Scott, I have six different stand locations so far. And there scattered throughout the unit. There is one water hole that is being pounded right now but it's right next to a main road. I'm planning a trek today to find the perfect saddle leading to this water hole.

Dan...I don't live in a Golf Course, BUT... I have a wife that demands the grass to be green. That way I don't think it's greener on the other side. hehe I did found those sheds in one day.
-
Mike, The horn growth is the best i've seen in about ten years. We've had steady rain all summer. I'll be headed to your area this weekend so hopefully we can find some beasts
