These scrapes and rub were new from last Saturday. We set up the tree stand For J- pretty much central to where all the sign is. We spooked what I think was the buck making those scrapes as we were setting the stand. Two more weeks baby!!!!!!!!!! Hey Adam, GOOD LUCK IN 23 BWAHAHAHA

Sorry J- your still not getting my bud lite. Adam call me I can give you some hints for 23. Mike...man i hope this pays off, If we don't bag one, it won't be from lack of preparation. Preparation + Opportunity = Luck (110" ghost)

Easy there Adam...I been trying to to keep it a secret. I guess everyone knows now hehe I least those who have seen me umpire a basball game. I was hoping this wouldn't get to the square root of B squared minus A squared equals C squared thread. Kevin...I hope we make you proud

Just my experience when shooting from my roof. If i range it at 25 yards I use my 20 yard pin. Works for me. I guess the best advise for shooting from a treestand is to practise from your roof. I've been doing this for the last couple of weeks. The neighbors think i'm a freak.

We've used a couple of techniques with good success. First, and my favorite, tons of pre season scouting and finding a saddle that the deer are using to go from point A to point B. Set up a treestand or ground blind about 25 to 30 yards from where you think the deer will be coming from. Pay very close attention to prodominate wind conditions. These guys can smell you a mile away even with all the handy dandy scent locks. Second, water, water, water, set a ground blind or treestand with the same considerations as the saddle. Remember to set your treestand up as high as possible. These little guys can see movement like nobodies business . Also, when you take your shot from the treestand, aim lower than what you range. I usually shoot five yards less. Depending on the terrain. Best time to sit water is from 11:00am to 3:00 pm. Third, salt licks or mineral licks. If you can find a place where a rancher has set up salt licks, and they have been there for years, you have just found a gold mine my friend. Fourth, scrape hunting, try to find a scrape line and sit it early in the morning and late in the evening. What I usually do is carry a small fold up stool and set it up where I can use a tree as a back rest. Set up about 25 to 30 yards from the scrape. You really have to make sure that you as little amount of movement as possible. Coues deer are ALWAYS in alert mode. So you need to be in ALERT mode things can happen very quick. Always have your bow ready and in a position where you can take a shot with little movement. Coues deer do react to doe bleets and grunts. And some lite rattleing. I use the "can" made by Primos for my doe bleets. I also use a Coues deer Grunt made by an outfit from AZ I forget the name. But it does sound different from the other grunt calls. Good Luck on your hunt.

Thanks again for posting the pix Amanda The top pic is a rub that was made sometime last week. My tree stand is about 60 yards from the rub. There is alot of traffic on that trail right now so i set a Trail cam. I'm planning on checking the cam on the 23rd. I set another cam on a fence crossing. The other pix are the same scrapes. We're planning on setting a tree stand for Jamaro there, this weekend. There are actually two active scraps in that saddle. The last pic is my buddy ROCKY. He decided to follow me around while i checked the saddle for more scrapes. I figured he wanted to get his picture taken. Like I said things are starting to heat up. -
First pix
crazyaboutcoues replied to crazyaboutcoues's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I set it up again yesterday on a trail leading to a spring. I'll check it on Friday. Then i'll set it up where i'm acually going to hunt. The pix that attached here in CW didn't come out that well. The originals are pretty sweet. I'm impressed with the quality, especially because the whole unit was less than $100.00 bills. To be continued -
Just bought a Moultrie trail cam and set it up on a salt lick. I only had it up for three days. Hopefully I can get some real good pix before the bowhunt starts. It's not what expected to see but hey, One is a "Cows" deer and the actual Coues deer doe decided to moon me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...utcoues/tc2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/cra...utcoues/tc1.jpg

Mason...first of all congradulations on a once in ten lifetimes Couesdeer. I was the one who posted the initial picture of your buck. It was fowarded to me by a buddy of mine that works at the Morenci mine. He asked me if I had heard anything about this buck. After seeing the giant, I had to post it here to see if anyone knew the story behind this beast. I apologize if it stirred things up. I don't really think anyone really bad mouthed your mammoth , I think it's just hard to believe a 134" Coues Gargantua. I knew it was at least 130" when i first saw it. hehe THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT. There is another 130 class buck pictured on monstermuleys in the coues section. Talk about a freaking HOOOOOGGGGGG!!!! Congradulations again Mason.
