i was 16 years old,unit 5b out in my dads truck with my new girlfriend.kicked up a nice 5x5 about 2 miles from the truck.it was right at dusk i shot it & gave chase not knowing any better.i stumbled across the buck about a mile up a powerline.it was getting too dark to see & i had no flashlight or any gear but my rifle & the truck keys.i stayed the night with my prize (in a tee shirt)my girlfriend found the truck & climbed in thru the open back window.i still have the rack from that deer & will be married to that same girl 25 years this month .ed

there color changes a bit,the carharts they wear seem to be a bit more on the tan side.hopefully they dont start wearing the new mossy oak carhartt pattern or were in for some really tuff times sighting these guys.

depending on what he has been shooting and his experience the 300 hh would be a good choice.fantastic elk round,not too real bad recoil wise.? whats he use to ?whats he profecient with? whats he comfortable with?

in my opinion for whatever its worth would be to start a kid off slow & comfortable like you would a bird dog,he didnt come out of the womb smoking cigars & driving a truck.he has alot of years to develope the skills he needs.startingg a kid off with very low inpact with a high regard for accuracy pays off.how old was your bird dog when you shot a 12 ga over him?same with a kid, take it slow,they will let you know when there ready to progress.they will be asking to shoot what you got.yes i started buying guns for my son before he was born.every birthday & christmas he got another gun or piece of equipment he would need or could use.he had a small safe full by the time he was 16.he has developed into one heck of a shot and a predator caller with exceptional skills. take it slow, teach all you can ,live & love every minute, you are a father there is no better feeling.

i started my son off with a ruger 22 & a 20 guage mossberg youth shotgun.after a couple of squirel & quail seasons he was ready for the larger calibers.we then gave him a 22-250 & a 12 guage.it wasnt long before he was wanting to shoot the 25-06 & 257 weatherby.i have never believed in 1 gun for everything.thats why they make big gun safes.

i had a unit 6b tag that i filled yesterday around 7;30 am.it was a fun hunt.

i must admit sometimes i am a bit slow,but im having a hard time figuring out how being a drama queen contributes to harvesting a monster buck? can someone splaine it to me

i know what your talking about,it has happened to me more times than i can count.i have lived in northern az all my life. i have lived in & hunted this area for well over 35 years.i do not like road hunters, we always called thelm flat lander when i was a kid.as i grew older & got to know some of the southern az hunters ,we found some of thelm to be good ethical hunters with the same ethics & values that we have.what i am trying to say here is that we are all in the same boat.we have way too many people out trying to do the same thing in the same area at the same time.some are experienced,some are not,some are just plain lazy, some just dont know any better.nothings ever gonna be perfect.it will never be the way it was as i was growing up.we all have to learn to deal with the situation.some guys use quads,some do not,some have a hatred twords all quads.i use a quad at times from my camp to go to the area where i will continue my hunt.i chainup my quad & hike from there.did i appreciate having a 3/4 full beer bounce off my head when a f-250 diesel passed me on a two track off of woody moutain rd.yes i did turn around & stop that truck.his his buddys excuse was they hate quads,shouldnt be allowd to use em.coconino sheriffs officer was just as amused as i was.we all need to get along & learn to live with each other.,or were going to let the anti's wildest dreams come true.self destruction
